Les Phillip For Congress Event

Wow!  What a night this was for me.  This was my first political fundraiser and it could not have been more exciting.  I got to start the afternoon at a Meet and Greet event before the actual fundraiser where I got to meet MikeHuckabee and get lots of pictures.  He was very gracious and thanked me and everyone involved with Huck PAC for all we are doing.  Les Phillip and I have gotten to know each other quite well and even though he is almost as new to all of this as I am, they certainly know how to put on a great event!  It was a sell out crowd of about 400 people (I even saw them set up another table or two after we got there!).  I also really enjoyed getting to meet several of the Huck PAC members!  Thank you all for introducing yourselves and I really look forward to working with you in the coming months.  It was a great night for "networking" and I am very excited about the potential growth for Huck PAC in Alabama.

I was asked by Les to sit at the Head Table (which was on the stage!) and he placed me next to Governor Huckabee.  Luckily I made through dinner without incident, but a friend of mine was standing by with a camera just in case!  :)  I enjoyed eavesdropping on the conversation between Mike and Les , and getting in on some of that conversation too.  It was really nice to see the two men interact.  I have to tell you all though, the night exceeded all my expectations.  I am not really sure what I was expecting, but the words of both men last night have really inspired me to get to work. Gov Huckabee 's speech about Les was amazing.  Even I was more impressed with Les (if that is possible) after the speech!  He challenged everyone in the crowd to get busy, contact people about Les and get them to agree to get involved.  He was funny as always.  He reminded us of something he used to tell us during the primary too.  We are not to get "behind Les", but get "beside Les" as we help him reach Washington.  He also said, when he first started to speak, "I think we have just witnessed a magnificent address by not only a future Alabama congressman, but by one of our future national leaders of the Republican Party,"  I agree wholeheartedly with him on that.

Les spoke before Huckabee and "introduced himself," as I like to call, it to the crowd.  Les' story is one of the true American Dream.  His family came to this country when he was just a boy.  He has had three "God Moments" as he has started call them in his life that has lead him to where he is today.  One at 6 years of age, when the path was laid for him to become a pilot.  One at 16, when after reading Ezekiel 22:30 he asked God to open his eyes to a time when he was going to be asked to "stand in the gap" and for the courage to do what was required when that time came.  And one this year, during the State of the Union Address, when he asked God what He was going to do about the socialist direction our country was heading down.  As he looked up in the mirror over the bathroom sink he was leaning over he realized at that moment the question God was asking him was...What are you going to do about it Les?  You can visit his website at www.LesPhillip.com if you would like to learn more about him or contribute!  We are so blessed to have a congressional candidate like Les in North Alabama.
I pray that for many of our states as we head into the 2010 elections.

I want to remind you all how new I am to this.  I have only been in the world of politics since the republican primary in 2008, and I have really only been involved in state politics for a few months.  I didn't have any connections or know anyone when I got started, I just stepped out of my comfort zone, met Les and rest has been like a freight train.  Les started out the same way.  He didn't have any seed money or connections, but he accomplished so much in really just a few months.  Just think of what this organization can become if we all just reach out and start working.  I heard on so many occasions last night, I have never been involved before but I just felt like I needed to do something.  We all can make a difference if we just engage in the process!
