I would just like to take time with this blog to introduce the current team members for HuckPac in West Virginia and provide you with a little bit of information about ourselves and why we joined HuckPac.
Justin Lafferty
My name is Justin Lafferty. I am a college student at West Virginia State University. During 2007, I started researching political candidates for the upcoming Presidential Election. Many of the candidates that the media was pushing at the time did not really interest me. I figured there had to be a candidate out there that shared my values. After watching debates and doing some research, Gov. Mike Huckabee was that candidate. I jumped on board as a supporter and even made some phone calls and seen the poll numbers rise from 1% to winning the Iowa Caucuses and many other states including my own state of West Virginia.. I followed along each step of the way including following the results of the Ames Straw Poll online which was encouraging at the time.
I decided to volunteer for HuckPac because Gov. Huckabee and I share the same conservative principles of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Many times when looking at the problems facing our country we ignore the common sense approach. I believe Gov. Huckabee can lead the Republican Party in bringing common sense back to America. Gov Huckabee once said, "It's when ordinary people rise above the expectations and seize the opportunity that milestones truly are reached." I believe that rising above the expectations and accomplishing something for America is what being a coordinator, volunteer, or staff for HuckPac is all about.
The highest paid consultants, strategists, and media personnel can not make an impact like a next door neighbor or a member of the community. When people see members of their community fighting for something, it makes them more motivated to look deeper into the issue and is more likely to cause them to support that cause as well. I'm looking forward to working with HuckPac to get candidates that share these conservative values elected to office and I hope you will do the same.
Barbara Smith
Hello. My name is Barbara Smith and I live in Vienna (near Parkersburg). Ever since I first heard Governor Huckabee last summer I have been a believer in him and his policy. He was the only candidate who lived the values I cherish: conservative ones which mean less government and more personal responsibility. And gosh do we need that now! That's why I was thrilled when I learned about HuckPAC and its efforts to elect conservative candidates throughout our great country.
We are seeing now the results of what our government will be like when we have elected and appointed officials who want more government control in our lives! Heck, the government is interfering in every aspect of our lives now. Look at the draining of our personal finances which has happened. Spend, spend, and spend. That's all we are getting from Washington. Isn't it amazing how they can spend our money willy-nilly without a care in the world? Have you ever seen anything like it?
The Republican Party has disappointed me somewhat over the past several months. Gov Huckabee stated on March 18, 2009 in The Washington Times the following: "The 10th Amendment defines the limits of the federal government in 28 words: "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."
Over the past few years, Republicans have been either acquiescing in or encouraging the acquisition of more power and control by the federal government - in policy shifts in education, health care, and even how a driver's license looks."
That's why it is important that we conservatives need to unite behind an organization which elects candidates that brings less government and encourages more personal responsibility to our lives!!! Before it's too late, let's work together to get rid of the likes of Frank, Dodd and many others who don't have a clue what conservative Americans want.
