Earlier today, Congressman Paul Ryan, Chairman of the House Budget Committee presented the Republican Party's plan to cut spending by over $6.2 trillion in a ten-year period.
President Obama immediately went on live television to discuss the plan. It’s no surprise that the President doesn't seem to like much about a proposal that will reduce the Democrat's out of control spending.
I have been reviewing the document since its release – and so far, several of Congressman Ryan's ideas, are ideas that I have been advocating for many months. I am especially pleased that the proposal provides for streamlining many government agencies and REPEALING OBAMACARE.
It’s doubtful the House’s proposal will be passed in its current form, and it’s unlikely that this one proposal will be the ultimate solution to all of our economic problems. But Congressman Ryan's proposal is certainly a start – one that I support as a small step to restoring fiscal sanity and reducing the size of government.
If you would like to read the full proposal please go here.

First I will add that I am somewhat cut off from current events. I am a Captain in the Army currently at a small FOB in Iraq. My concerns with the budget is the effects it will have for the future of my 5 children. From a moral stand I am for the cuts in Planned parenthood. I am a physician Assistant and a close friend from school used to work for them and felt pressured to "push" abortion issues. I am against the cuts in the EPA. We only have on Earth to leave our children and I would like it to be habitable. My concern is that some of the lobbying pushing for the EPA cuts come from big oil.

While a good start, reality is hard for so many in leadership to understand.
The US has a fiscal gap (the present value of all its future spending, including servicing its official debt, less all its future taxes) of $202 trillion...almost 14 times GDP. Greece, by comparison, has a fiscal gap of about 11 times GDP.
We need the adults to step up and recognize that major changes are needed in our spending habits. Everything needs to be cut, including programs I like. Our present course is simply unsustainable and even the changes proposed by the GOP only lengthen the timeline of our inevitable decline.
As I said, it's a start. More work left to be done.Oh, Huckabee 2012! :)

I have heard Congressman Ryan's plan for SSI before. I don't agree with his idea of the cure, as it still leaves us with the fox in the hen house. we need to privitize SSI with medicare making private HSA/IRAs locally invested and State mandated and monitored, with the federal government simply setting a sunset date for covering those say 20 years from SSI.

Now watch how the democrats will tell the public that millions of children will suffer with all the cuts to welfare programs.....perhaps even the breakfast and lunch programs will be readjusted.....then the welfare folks will not be able to play the lotto and will have to buy food for their children instead. maybe the lines at the gas stations will now not be so long, waiting for all those tickets to be printed.....such a dastardly deed those Republican folks are doing to our poor welfare programs....next they may even tell them to go get a job or go back into the work force, they might even
do away with the free rent programs and food stamp give aways. who knows maybe we may even be able to slow down the democrats with their massive spending programs and save America from bankruptcy . Thanks
Paul for at least trying to get us back on course..... -

Mr. Huckabee,
I voted for you in the primaries and will vote for you again in the next presidential election. My I have two sons who are airmen. One is serving in Afghanistan right now. The other had over 12 deployments. I'm concerned about their pay if the government shuts down. One of my sons sent me the article below. Is this for real?Respectfully,

Someone needs to stand up to Obama and the candy store crowd that think they can sugarcoat all problems.
Thank you Congressman Ryan for all of your hard work and dedication towards a more perfect union. A start towards the revitalization or our Republic.
Please do not back down from your proposal. Stick to your guns. Any diminution of your plan in concession to Democratic proposals will be considered a win for their side.
No wins for them, not now. We need to be sure that nothing is done to make Democrats look better than they are. I don't condone muckraking. I don't condone concessions that diminish a necessary and strong approach to a problem that belongs to every American.
Speaker Boehner needs to stick to his guns. He also must be honest to the bone with American citizens and all others that stand to be revitalized by our budget getting well again.
Speaker Boehner needs to be sure that Republicans are not guilty of a scam like Obama pulled in getting elected on his promises, taken at face value, to make our country a better place than it was under "W".
I am afraid that if we are duped by more underhanded attempts at creating a One World Government and furthering the plans for a North American Union we will see a whole lot of violent civil unrest.
Republicans (not conservatives who define themselves as a party and they are not) need to take a strong stance for bringing the United States back to fully compliant with the Constitution as it was written and amended. To a balanced budget. To a Congress that is a lean, mean fighting machine comprised of dedicated people that have not got careers on their minds. One that will limit the amount of money that can be spent on campaigns and fix a strict period of time for running campaigns.
Having our government crippled by public servants that are more concerned with furthering their careers than solving the problems at hand. To aid their dedication lobbyists must be banned from all Washington, DC, offices, buildings, and other establishments. In fact, taking any favors from any entity for any purpose needs to be made a criminal act.
While I am on criminal acts, failing to serve in accordance with the oath of office each public servant takes upon entry into a public office, should be a crime punishable by removal from office and the requirement to repay all salaries and benefits received while in office.
Sincerely concerned,
Joseph D. Hollinger

The Republican party is already behind the power curve. The Democrats already have their front runner raising money for their campaign, where is our "front runner"?
We need to get that person out front and not wait for the republican convention to do it.
I nominate former Governor Mike Huckabee to be our candidate in 2012.

WE don't need to cut $6.2 trillion in a ten-year period. We need that cut NOW. If you kid was so in debt would you give him advise of cutting down in the next ten years? I don't think so

Thank you, Governor, for sharing this. Setting all the partisan hyperboles aside, this proposal does offer some interesting ideas. As the father of twins with severe developmental disabilities, it would be great to have clarity on a couple of issues.
After my wife and I pass away, my twins will have to be dependent on the government safety net for support, as there are no private, faith based, or other options for help. The goal of “cutting waste” sounds great, however wholesale cuts could significantly diminish or erase the programs they and their peers will need for a safe and secure life. We also live in a state which is currently among the bottom three in the country for support of people with disabilities, so placing more control in the hands of our state is not particularly appealing. Again, addressing these types of concerns for families with non-mainstream issues would be helpful.

I whole heartedly support Congressman Ryan's budget proposal. I find it ironic that Congresswoman Pelosi believes that bankrupting the nation will prevent seniors from starving. As on of those Social Security dependent folks, I feel much safer and more secure with Ryan's plan. It's Obama's plan that scares the daylights out of me. No one will eat if the nation is bankrupt!
Frankly, I'm fed up with the Dem's scare tactics, as well as their constant blaming of the GOP regarding the budget battle. If Dems had been responsible to begin with, they'd have had the budget completed by 10/01/10.

It is about time someone finally cut the spending in Washington. This proposal takes US back to 2008 levels, nothing wrong with that. And it actually addresses the other half of the budget items (entitlements). It actually puts US on the road to recovery, and a balanced budget.

Mike, Met you at lunch at our favorite place to eat at Gulf Place. I think they have done an amazing job streamlining and we all agree. The problem is maybe the first year is alittle hard line since we desperately need a budget passed. The gulf coast survives not only on tourist but mostly on our military. Milcon monies have not been released. Contracts bid in November and December have not been awarded or funded. Employees have no since of security, job cost are on the rise with contractors holding their prices at a time when gas and steel is on an increase. So yes we support the cuts, but is it worth it to again kill our economy, force major unemployement. Why can't anyone in the house or senate or White house listen to us..

I am full support of Paul Ryan's proposal. It seems well thought out and a doable solution to start the recovery of the financial health of the USA. Like you said, it may ot solve all the problems, but would be a good start. I pray the insanity will stop and some reason and common sense will win the day. We are counting on strong congressmen and women like you and Paul Ryan to stand strong and fight for us and for the future of our children. Thanks for all you do and may God guide and bless you. Mike, since no one else has left a comment here, on your site, I'll be the first, and say what I said on the Facebook site.
While I agree with your analysis, and basically agree with the proposals, it is the beginning and does not deal with the ROOT problem.
The Bible says that when the people prosper, when they live in nice homes, and drive nice cars (OK, they didn't have cars then), or camels, and have a lot of money in the bank, to REMEMBER it is the LORD GOD that giveth the ability to produce wealth.
We need to become, in reality, once again, one nation under God. Our school system needs to return to the place it began, where the knowledge of the Lord was the beginning of our education process.
We must become, once again, a nation where it OK to speak the truth IN LOVE. Where we can love God with all our hearts, MINDS, souls and strength, and love our neighbors as ourselves.
We need to become pro Israel and defend their right to the land God promised, without becoming "anti-Arab" because I believe God has a redemptive plan for both sons of Abraham, Isaac AND Ismael THROUGH Jesus Christ.
Those of us that claim to belong to God, and be called by His name, both Jew and Gentile, need to humble OURSELVES and pray, and seek God's face, as if our very life depended on it (because it does, even if most of us don't act like it, and I'm guilty.) and turn away from OUR wicked ways, do away with the pointing of the finger (I'm combining Scripture - is that OK?). Then, I believe that God will hear from heaven, forgive our sin, and heal our land.
We need a president that believes that too, but that won't "force" Christianity on the world, but that will encourage Christians to be a demonstration of the love and power of God by their very lives.

America is in so much debt that 6.2 trillion is nothing!!!
We need to defund Planned Parenthood!! And we need to stop giving money to anti-american groups. We have given money to countries that want to kill us! We give money to people who hate us. We need to stop doing this.

This is a good start but not enough. If it was coupled with a flat tax it would be a really good start. Some of this seems like dog and pony show just like the Obamacare repeal done early on that everyone knew was going nowhere. Most of the folks in Washington still look fake from here in Missouri. Doing what is necessary to get re-elected. The time is now to make tough cuts and radical changes.

Usually, when Politicians claim they are "cutting spending", what they really mean is "not increasing spending as much as they'd like". Cutting the proposed increase in spending is NOT cutting spending. So tell me, Huck (you understand their circuitous logic better than I), what are they REALLY saying this time? And, is it REALLY enough? Thanks for keeping an eye on them for us. Cleve

BALANCE THE BUDGET! BALANCE THE BUDGET! BALANCE BUDGET AMENDMENT! CUT SPENDING NOW! There is no other way to say it or squirm around it! I am a Christian person who believes in being compassionate and helpful, but we, the US taxpayers can no longer help every country in the world until we help ourselves!!
I can't give money to my cousin, sister, daughter, son, unless I have money to give! It's so simple. The American public are NOT stupid, as many politicians seem to think we are! I feel so strongly about this!! Can you tell. Stop corruption. Elected representatives should NOT be given extra benefits that all Americans do NOT have!! They are elected to represent THE PEOPLE for a short period of time (I wish.....term limits.) If anything, they should have fewer benefits than the American public. The way we collect taxes must be changed. WE MUST have taxes based on a percentage basis with absolutely NO loop holes!! Live by the US Constitution and quit destroying it!! Let everyone who is physically and mentally capable do something, anything if they are to collect any money for unemployment, etc. There are millions of jobs people can do if they must collect unemployment. There is a lot rotten in WA D.C. and we, the people, know it!! Things must change and they must change as quickly as possible. Everyone must "suffer" or make some sacrifices for the good of all in the decades that lie ahead. You ask for my comments or opinion, I'll give them. I think I speak for many. I am a simple retired school teacher! My husband is 80 years old and still works in construction because we need the money! Tell those in WA D.C. to get out of their "white palaces" and start living the ways the rest of us do. When you talk about those making $100,000 per year!!??? I don't know a single person that I associate with who makes that much money a year. You all are in la-la land!! Diane P. Smith / dianesmith5@comcast.net/ 503-657-4616 -

In earlier years, cutting the top tax rate for corporations and wealthy individuals might have helped the economy by increasing business activity and net tax income. It seems that today, however, corporations and upper income earners are holding on to cash rather that putting it out in the economy by hiring or initiating new projects, regardless of what incentives are. Meat axe budget cuts, such as NIH, which is a significant pipeline to discovery and entrepreneurial activity, is just crazy. One could make the argument also that Medicare/Medicaid was a mistake and ultimately a driver of the insane cost of healthcare we have today, but doing away with it just as baby boomers need it, and in a bad economy, is a non-starter. Bottom line is that the Democrats win by painting us as ruthless people who deny health care to granny while feeding Goldman-Sachs. Pleasing the mob, whether move on or tea party, does not benefit the country.

While there are many sections of the Health care law that I do not agree with, some sections I do support. I have a daughter who is a type 1 Diabetic, for her and many others with chronic medical conditions the changes that occurred regarding ensuring the can obtain health insurance, funding research for cures and attempts to limit and share costs will help her and others today and in the future.
Further, some basic level of health care, at least for emergency care and for medical are for children and those with chronic life threatening medicals conditions should be provided.
At one point, the GOP proposed many of like changes to our national medical care that seems to in line with much that was first implemented under the Health Care Law, mainly the sections I agree with.
With support for life saving medical research (which in the end will save money), maintain care for those with life threatening medical conditions and all for cost effective insurance be maintained under the new GOP proposals? I would hope so.

I do not think realistically we have any choice. It has to be done. From what I have heard and read, the cuts are all justifiable and do-able. I sure hope this is considered as a possibility. It would be nice to see our representatives consider our and our children's futures as they make these critical decisions.

There was a newscaster who spoke immediately after the fellow talked about the buget cuts and he said for the second time in "two weeks""So, you think we need to cut back on these entitelment programs like Medicare, Social Security and medicaid. MEDICAID IS AN ENTITLEMENT PROGRAM, Medicare is not, I worked and paid for that! When someone is disabled medicaid might be more appropriate than Medicare. When a six year old child is getting a Social Security check for ADD (attention deficit disodera, yes, that is an entitlement program. When someone who works for a living is disabled they should receive SSI. This is not the orginal intent but we have to take care of the people someway. All chilldren can get medicaid which as it should be, I was disable at 63 and could not get an aspirin. I also paid for Social Security and I truly resent a pundit refering to it as an entitlement program. Many people in my age group did plan for a nice retirement and Wall Street has stolen it from us. Scott here in Florida destroyed the prison system with budget cuts and the guards have not had a raise in 5 years, yet every department but admistrative, executive department there were massive cuts. In those two departments, personnel was doubled as was the dudget which was all ready in the millions. Who are they going to manage? From what I can tell, the same thing is happening with medicare. I am now disgusted with all of you and no longer trust anyone in my government. Regards,Mrs Sonnie Rivera

We can save Tax Payers Millions, will you Call LePage on behalf of Chris & Johnny Irving, Please ?
Our Boys are meeting our Governor next Tue at 11:am Augusta Me. State House left side of the stair case his office Maybe you can be there for them ? Sometime all we need to do is show up and amazing things happen :O}To whom it may Concern.
This story is a testimony of our personal experiences with our state's inefficient programs and facilities and every time we try to get any real Family assistance, like they give to the Agencies, All we get is just a band aid. This needs to Change Asap.Around 2004 our son Chris was outsourced to another state to be cared for the simple reason that our state did not have the proper care facility or understanding of Huntington's disease, Along with Chris, approx 50 others are outsourced as well, at a rate of approx a 1/2 million a year per person, ( These numbers are rough but Im sure Im not to far off according to my resources ) The facility Chris was sent to was a rehab facility, now anyone that knows about HD will tell you that folks with HD can not be rehabilitated, so that was the wrong place to send him to start with. So my wife and I decide to try and get him back to our state of Maine and after 2.5 years we were able to get a bill passed allowing us to do just that, (Thank you Jack Comart ) While Chris was there for 2.5 years he was neglected and abused, ( we have proof ) and at that time Johnny was ready for us to help him as well, Johnny spent that 2.5 years living on the streets under the railroad tracks called Hobo alley in Portland.
My wife and I found an Agency LSS, that would take Chris & Johnny and give them 24/7 care in a group home that the Agency rented for the boys, The agencies cost to the state of Maine was 1/2 of the cost of sending two out of state, basically they were willing to care for two for the price of one being outsourced, Chris & Johnny lived there under the care of 4 full time care givers and 2 part time care givers for 3 years, Raima their mother visited them every other day to assist with their personal care because even though they had all this care, they were not being taken care of that well, Johnny got severely dehydrated & Chris left the home on a few occasions due to lack of supervision and hurt himself each time, and to me that in itself is neglect and abuse. So after all these years of our boys being under someone else's care and they not getting the Quality of care they needed, My wife and I decided to bring them home because the Boys had gone though more than any human being should have to in their situation with all the millions being spent of their behalf,
Now we finally get the boys home and under a different Program but now were told the boys are only allowed 118 hrs of Care down from 168 hrs 24/7 Care, (Something is wrong with this picture) So they tell Raima that she can be a paid care giver at $9.00 an hr but first she has to jump though a few hoops and pay the agency $250.00 to take 50 hrs of Classes, ( So now at this time Im thinking let me get this right in my head,) Our boys have to go from 168 hrs of care a week down to only 118 hrs and then we have to pay an agency to care for them at home. ( Someone Please tell me Im having a bad Dream ) Then Im told that I also could be a paid care giver to the boys but I have to do the same as my wife, ( Say What ? ) I asked about me becoming the Agency (Dana Morrell EIM) told me it would be better for me to just take the 40 hrs a week and get paid the $300. a week and good luck tiring to get the program changed ( Still thinking about that I can't run my household with little to nothing ) My wife and I are giving up our lives & careers to be there for the remainder of the boys lives because the sate programs are not working for them, She also told me if we lose our home she would help us with housing assistance, ( are you kidding me ! Put us under another inefficient wasteful program, I think not! ) Then there is the Gould Assessment and Im sure your all familiar with that which determines what level of care you receive, Which is a joke for anyone with HD. The Boys where Assessed last week and the Lady doing the assessment told Raima that the 118 hrs would be cut down again to 110 hrs for both boys. ( Well needless to say my Italian French wife Raima lost it ) You know kind of like a Mama Grizzle Like Palin talks about) so her super told her to keep it at 118, ( Ok Thank you so much )
For the life of me I do not understand why so much money is being passed around to everyone except the Families in need.
By the way it was to our understanding that the money saved form the bill being passed that Chris was the impetus for, That money would go to Create Programs & Facilities here in our state, Well here it is 7 years later and Im told that bill is no longer legally in effect, ? ( My question is So where did the millions go then ??)So here is what I would like to do with your help, Our HD Families working together with your Policy Makers and Jack Comart to work up a Bill that will allow Families in this situation to have control over the funding allocated on behalf of our loved ones for their care. I know the tax Payers would love to save money and at the same time give the families more to work with instead of less. Its very Simple CUT OUT THE MIDDLE MAN ! allow the families to have what they need to run their in-home care facility, And Save more Taxes $$! This is a win win scenario for everyone.
Suggestions to make this happen.
Have recognized folks like Families with HD, Hospice, Doctors,Caregivers,Attorneys, anyone that has any kind of public standing in our communities and knowledge of HD, to write up letters of recommendation of the Changes that need to be made and create a program specifically for families with HD. as you know HD consist of all the genetic diseases balled into one, So there for there needs to be a Program in place to address this issue. Nothing exist to date.
The Bottom line is Raima & I are willing to sign a Contract with our State to make this right.
Please no RED TAPE
Please know.
My Family in no way want you to feel sorry for us, Just do what is Right on their behalf and at the same time recognize them for their accomplishments don't punish them for being sick. A lot of folks have made money for personal gain due to their Illness, They did not ask for this nor do they deserve it,
If its to be - Its up to you and me.
Sincerely
Mike & Raima Fernald on behalf of Chris & John Irving. And the Severely Disabled -
Cunningham, Kevin

I agree with you Mike; it's a nice start in the right direction, but future budgets must go deeper. I'm concerned focus might be lost in the future. We've got to change the Senate and get rid of Obama and stiffen the backbone of the conservatives in the House!
I voted for you in 2008, even though you had dropped out of the primary by the time PA voted. You were on the ballot, and I wanted to make a statement. If you're the republican candidate in Nov 2012, you will get my vote! RUN!

While Ryan's Budget Plan is a start, I really would have preferred Rand Paul's Budget Plans to balance the budget in 5 years. I wonder why more Republicans on the Hill were not behind it and instead voted to table the matter. Was it politics Paul Ryan looking good vs. Rand Paul? We don't have 10 years to get it right. They upset our comfort zones and now it's their turn. I can balance my life and budget better than they play to run the government. I am from Wisconsin.....the home of the government cowards!! No more whining...let us get at it!!!

Mike, We absolutely cannot tolerate nor survive the obscene national financial mess we are in. We must cut and cut deeply, even if it hurts a lot, because continued apathy is going to destroy us!

I posted this on your Facebook page, but felt I needed to do more than that, so I'm posting it here, too.
Benefits for current retirees and Medicare/Medicaid recipients cannot be touched or reduced! Cut out pork barrel spending. Cut out, or at least dramatically reduce, the severe influence of PACs. Improve the tort laws, especially including m...alpractice insurance. Reduce taxes on corporations and provide significant incentives for bringing jobs back into the U.S. rather than outsourcing them. At the same time, penalize those companies who have opened "offices" overseas for the sole purpose of avoiding paying U.S. taxes all together. Improve and reduce the costs of R&D for drug companies. It's ridiculous the U.S. pays many times higher prices for our drugs than someone from another country. Revise the current individual tax system. There are too many loopholes enabling those of significant means to avoid taxes. And...IF you can even come close to doing this, you'll have my vote and probably the vote of almost the entire nation. Good luck!

You want to know what we think. Okay, here goes! I have lost faith in ALL government officials, yes ALL politicians. All of them need to stop lying to us, they work for US and they seem to have forgotten that! NOTHING they do is in our best interest! They do what THEY want!
IF you polled all of America you'd be shocked by number of people who feel the same way I do. In fact I told my husband that I now feel voting is a complete waste of time because all politicians do is lie to get into office then ignore all the promises they made. I am ashamed of the path this Country is on! I am ashamed of the way politicians run it! I am ashamed of the so called President that the American people put in office! He is a joke!
I have ZERO trust left and that is sad! -

I think they should take care of this year first! I would like to continue to get paid for my service to America. I don't have much, but I would like to keep it. It's not like we (military) got a big raise this year anyways (lowest since the Vietnam War).

Its a step in the right direction but we all know Americans don't particularly like to make personal sacrifices over long periods of time. While it will be well received by the markets, It will bring dismal morale to the American public has already had to stomach a recession brought on by crooked bankers, corporations, and government officials who got bailed out or their hand slapped.
Personally I believe any action taken is more than a day late and a dollar short to save this country. We need to first adapt the precious metals standard, second, balance the budget, and maintain a balance budget. Third, end tax loopholes by adapting a fair tax. This will eliminate the IRS, open up business, allow Americans to breath some freedom and eliminate billions of annual costs to maintain the IRS. Fourth enforce the banks to get engaged with investing in American small businesses or they lose their charters, and fifth cut Congress pay and perks in half.

as with any thing I prefer to see a side by side comparison instead of relying on the opinion of one person or another. I support much of what you do but it is obvious you are running for office & putting out an agenda that doesn't show both sides and history such as Obama care is very much what Republicans have proposed since Reagon.
