Statement On Cap And Trade

In a recent internet post, a contributor makes the claim that I supported cap-and-trade in late 2007 while running for President.

To put it simply, that's just not true.

If companies chose to participate voluntarily as part of their corporate policy, then fine. But I was clear that we could not force U.S. businesses to do what their Chinese counterparts refused to - and doing so would have been a serious job killer.

I understand this issue well, and I realize the potential damage that would occur if it passes because I was the chair of the 37 state-member Oil and Gas Compact Commission for 2 years. In fact, I led the state or Arkansas through the process of developing the Fayetteville Shale play of natural gas.

This kind of mandatory energy policy would have a horrible impact on this nation's job market. I never did support and never would support it - period.

Thanks, Governor, for clarifying your position on cap and trade. Too bad the clarification won't be reported by the media.

It has also been reported that Mike Huckabee has taken a different position than Mitt Romney (and Sarah Palin) on the tax cut compromise. The vulture capitalists specialty is going into debt by borrowing money from someone else to try to make (more) money for themselves. But that's no way to run a government.

Governor Huckabee will have a more intelligent and realistic position on the tax cut compromise that will consider the needs of all Americans, not just the fat cats.
Incidentally, Huckabee is now as popular as Romney in Michigan, where Romney's father was a popular Governor. Who knows, maybe the miracle CAN happen....

    Mike Huckabee in 2012!

I am glad you cleared this up. Cap and Trade legislation would be horrible for Louisiana and America.

Thats what I thought when reading the article. Thanks Governor for the quick clarification. I imagine they'll be a few more of these before election day 2012 but the most important clarification will be that the American people want Mike Huckabee as their next President.
