Re: "Open-mindedness" and The Case of Elena Kagan and Supreme Court Injustice
Peter Scofield 06/21/2010 02:56 AM
I thank you for taking time to respond. That is the wise thing to do. I understand where you are coming from. You are talking about the bigger picture.Open-mindedness without a filter and without a foundation to stand on is futile and eventually will lead to slavery of the so-called open-minded by those ready to be leaders over all(that would include us)for our own "good."
2. The Case of Elena Kagan, Supreme Court Nominee and Harvard Law Graduate
The president is telling all how qualified she is to be a supreme court justice. This is a real slippery slope case.
Evidence is surfacing now where Republican committee members are considering a filibuster of her nomination. It is clear why.
If she has done what she is alleged to have done as solicitor general of the United States and what she did as a dean at Harvard and as staff member in the Clinton White House, it leaves no option but to fire her from her job, not just filibuster her and censure the president for failing to do his job to protect the nation.
To push a candidate with a political agenda to push gay-marriage, weaken our military recruiting opportunities to defend our nation, and accept money when at Harvard from Saudi Arabia (probably to support gay marriage so that religious polygamy can become acceptable and harass the military off campus.)

thanks for your encouraging words......they mean alot to me. To be sure and truthful, it is not my intention to say or type what I should not. As I have posted in other posts, I do not immediately respond to posts. Thus, the reason for a "late reply". Sorry.
In your post to me you state;
"minds are at least open to reasoning together."
Unfourtanatey Sir, with all due respect, I DO NOT have an open mind. I have seen the results of poeple having "Open Minds".
Open Minds = Open Interpretation of the TRUTH. The result = MAYHAM.
To be Sure, the Living Bible may be "LIVING" but it is not "CHANGABLE" (except for people with "itching ears"). It is my belief that this "foundational" truth is what the "Founding Fathers" intended of the Constitution of America.

Re: "Ride with Mitch" p 5 (Happy Father’s Day)
Mxnwilson 06/17/2010 01:59 PM- Thank you for being diplomatic, running with me on the b-ball talk, and sharing perspectives of others with knowledge on this topic. Allow me to respond to your note.
1. June 8th Iowa GOP Primary
I believe BVP could have won in Iowa had he hit three of four of those three-pointers (BVP 50, TB 41). My hope is that Huck PAC can use the experience as an opportunity to mature in the larger scope of 2010 state and 2012 presidential campaigning: respect, protect, don’t over correct, inspire. Stay vertical.
2. Truce Recalled
Have you heard of Governor Daniels’ recall of his truce language? My guess is that the comments shared by Governor Barbour and Governor Huckabee’ influenced his decision. I hope Governor Huckabee now has more time to look over the substance of Governor Daniels’ interview and talk to the governor. Couldn’t ask for a better ally in the fight for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.3. “Not a Typical Politician”
The only thing Governor Daniels probably flip flops on is when he makes pancakes for his kids on Father’s Day. He is not a typical politician. To begin to label him as a possible flip-flopper on conservative principles from a comment he made in his interview is no different than when uninformed talk show hosts tried to label Governor Huckabee as a religious bigot because of a comment he made in a long interview to some reporter back in New York a few years ago. Mitch is Mitch and Mike is Mike.4. "Strong Conservatives to Pick From”
Must win in 2010 and have all leaders and Americans work together to fix our nation as long as it takes to do so. As such, for 2012 I just do not see that many qualified people to pick from if all the people stick to their jobs to do what they promised their state constituencies they would do. The 2012 campaign season will need to be different from any we have seen in a long time. We literally need a tried and true two-term governor from the south and a tried and true two-term governor from the cross-roads of America to team up to help stop the "civil war" in our nation because they know our history well, know how to relate with people from all walks of life, know how to deal with natural and man-made disasters (economic, social, and industrial). -

Peter, your kind, focused, short thoughts and scripture verses have always been a source of encouragement for me. I would be so bold to say it is the same for Dr. David. Do not give up on that. Like your name, stay foundational, Peter! Don't tear down what you have strived so hard to build up. Just take a break from it all. That is what I do.
Just as you can build real foundations for homes which is awesome, there are some of us who build using words. And yes, sometimes we cannot help ourselves...we want to go to the rafters (that is where the bats are, right). But with those words written on foundational truths we can take a humble stab at trying to communicate with those whose minds are at least open to reasoning together.
In closing, I just ask you to recall how we all met online at this site. We were there supporting you. That was an extreme belief case which we hope never becomes popular.

Los Angeles Mike--I think Gov. Daniels is taking the three-pointer outside shots, but is missing the goal entirely. This is what one of my facebook friends commented after he read my request to read your post on this thread: QUOTE--
"Politicians change their views on abortion all of the time when they transition from state to federal government. I'm really leary of him now. I don't give him the benefit of the doubt. Look at Romney's stances from just a few years ago and compare it to his speech at the 08 convention.
Daniels is in the process of redefining himself now. I was ... really impressed with his work as Governor, but now is where he'll be defining himself for the candidate we will vote on.
There are going to be a lot more strong conservatives to pick from this go around."
This is just one of several who had commented on this subject.

Re: "Ride with Mitch" p4
The Case of the Bob Vader Plaats of IowaPeter Scofield 06/16/2010 02:54 AM. Dr David has shared some good analysis on presidential campaigning(06/15/2010 01:08 PM) and moral beliefs(06/16/2010 12:06 PM). I particularly appreciated the reminder of when Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane.
Peter, let me try in a humble way to bring these treads closer to your home of Minnesota. Let's just look at Bob Vander Plaats' loss in last weeks Iowa GOP gubernatorial primary.
A. Background:
Three respected, kind, hard-working men ran. Former Governor Terry Branstad was most popular among the voters with a little over 50%, next came Bob Vander Plaats with a little over 40%, and finally Rob Roberts finished with a little over 8% of the vote.
B. Question:
Why was Bob Vander Plaats unable to be popular enough on his positions to move the critical voting bloc in the middle to go his direction on election day? Bob was so close.
Note: It is not sufficient enough to advocate a position that the voters made a mistake. Bob made the mistakes that cost him 15% to 20% of the middle vote.
C. What can one learn from the difficult loss I am sure for Bob?
Bob said he was running as the outsider with new ideas to help revitalize Iowa. But in the end, Bob politicized his campaign instead of personalizing and professionalizing and popularizing it.
D. Should Haves/Should Not Haves:
1. Bob should have shown more respect for Terry Branstad the insider at the debates. He is an elderly man from Iowa with an amazing service record. Instead, Bob went under the boards with Terry on some silly private insider stuff. The old pro will be able to pull your shorts down every time if you go inside on him. Bob helped support Terry's popularity. He should have stayed outside shooting three-points at the bucket and not at Terry. I am sure Bob would take some it back in retrospect.
2. Bob should never have brought up all the executive order stuff and used the new sheriff in town language regarding the gay-marriage debacle in Iowa.
Bob tried to make himself look like some experienced insider by rattling off all the things he would do with all the new powers of a governor that I frankly would be scared to death to attempt to talk about with a guy like Terry Branstad in my company. Terry is an old pro at executive orders and all the procedures related to the role of governor.
Again, Bob went inside under the boards with Terry and he got his pants pulled down again. Bob helped remind people that Terry is a popular old pro with governor stuff. Bob should have stayed outside shooting three-points at the bucket and left Terry in awe of his knowledge of the present Iowa condition and bread basket issues (all of them) concerning the heartland.
3. Bob should have known that 80% of the GOP voters in Iowa wish to have the definition of marriage on the ballots. Bob should have stayed outside on this one and trusted the people of Iowa. They have been enlightened and they were at the game.
Instead, Bob went inside and tried to please special interest groups so much that he lost his electability with some in the middle who thought he was only a fringe candidate. The liberal media love these opportunities to twist the real conditions on the ground.
He should have stayed outside shooting three-points at the bucket and not over and over again trying to complain about a refs horrible call. He was acting like he was playing an away game and not a home game. Even his opponents agreed on the issue.
4. Finally, Bob should have talked endlessly about how the field of dreams is being sold off in Iowa. And tied that to an old era passing away. He could have easily inserted morals and the economy; most understand this. Bob forgot that he was from Iowa. Instead, he went inside and played the endorsement game with Terry Branstad. Bob needed key Iowa endorsements to personalize it.
Terry's biggest mistake was he was endorsed by Mitt Romney and Sarah Palin. It showed Terry to be old Terry the insider who is so much inside that he still is outside Iowa and outside her real interests.
It also showed his real weakness in that he had to bring in two to make him look popular again. To be endorsed by two one-term governors whose policies are being forced on the people of Iowa now showed just how weak Terry might really be.
By this time in the campaign Terry would have had to come out to stop all those three-point shots from Bob. Instead Terry just bought a professional cheering section to tell all how great Terry is and Bob counters with his own fan section.

Peter Scofield 06/16/2010 02:54 AM. You misunderstand. A moral belief IS an extreme belief when most other people don't hold it. The term extreme is a statistical one, comparing that view with the views of others. It is a statement about popularity, not morality. And unpopular positions do not win elections.
On the other hand, it is also true that your beliefs are not necessarily moral simply because you say they are. Nor because others in your church say they are. What is truly moral is sometimes agonizingly complex, as you may recall from when Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Peter Scofield
06/14/2010 11:37 PMJust like the way you use your nice Eagle avatar to express yourself in your posts, I use word pictures from time to time to convey messages. Allow me to clarify.
As for the “tiger”reference itself, I believe Mike and Mitch went to universities that use the tiger as the mascot. Also, their school mottos are good ones: “Vision, Integrity, and Service” and “Service to the Nation and Nations” respectively.
As for the pouncing, I had heard that the tiger is a very cautious animal; and it doesn’t hunt elephants or larger animals than itself, unless it is very hungry or if its cubs or itself were attacked.Well, Mitch spent years working on a reasonable and responsible Health Care/Savings system in Indiana only to see it smashed by ObamaCare. How would you feel, Peter?
Governor Daniels last week said as president, he would sign a repeal of “ObamaCare” as long as it was accompanied by a “consumerist” alternative.

I identify with the common sense expressed here by Michael Skoog (6/12/10 9:53 am) and Los Angeles, Mike (6/14/10 2:17 pm).
The observation that a lack of business ethics in America stems from the breakdown of the traditional family structure is one with which most Republicans and Democrats would agree. However, this was not the subject of Mitch Daniels' call for a "truce" in the 2012 Presidential campaign. He intended the term "social issues" to be code for "abortion rights" and "gay marriage". He knows that Americans are divided over these issues, with smaller groups on the political left and right who advocate for extreme positions, and a larger group in the middle who search for viable compromises.
He was suggesting that Republican candidates not overtly advocate extreme positions on these issues in the context of the Presidential election, because he understands this would push the large voting bloc in the middle in the opposite direction.
This is a reasonable suggestion, and to urge Governor Huckabee to make these social issues a centerpiece of a Presidential campaign, AFTER he has already made his positions clear to everyone in America seems to me to be short-sighted and self-defeating.
We need a Third Great Awakening in this country, but just like the previous two, it will NOT emerge in the context of political campaigns.

Re: "Ride Along with Mitch" p2
Mxnwilson,
Thank you for your thoughtful reply and kind explanation on how Huck PAC works. Yes, it is a good topic that needs to be discussed. I hope Mike has a chance to talk with Mitch. I bet Mitch still spells his name with -ch.As for Governor Daniels, I encourage folks to read his interview. It reveals his reluctance to drag his family into the national spotlight. It also hints at his hope that a true conservative will arise to lead us at this time and why this man is not necessarily Mitch himself. It also indicates a clue that he might be available to help at the vp spot.
As for the truce language, I believe the call for a truce Mitch is talking about is not directed at fiscally conservative pro-life and pro-traditional marriage people waving a white flag. We and he have done nothing wrong.
What I call Governor Daniel's Lincoln-like "Save the United States of America" truce request found in his interview seems to be directed at the various factions of zealous political groups whose unchecked radical social and anti-government agendas have broken the bank and harmed the nation’s capability to protect itself and exist. Americans have no more money, no more time, or no more interest in letting radicals steal their national wealth and harm our future.
As Mitch says near the end of his interview, even though he understands the role of government, "the host can only take so much from the parasites."
Finally, all need to understand that there is a real tiger in Mitch, like Mike, and this tiger had its tail pulled, its whiskers plucked, and its habit plowed over all last year. This tiger is ready to pounce and it is not on us.

Thank you Gov. Huckabee for standing on principle. It is never easy or pleasant when one has to correct a good competent friend or when a good friend corrects us. But, it is the right thing to do, specially when it comes to defending such vital social issues as life and the sanctity of marriage (God's first institution). Your actions are the mark of a true leader and a good friend, a friend to Gov. Daniels and to this nation.
Governor Daniels was wrong in calling for a "truce" on abortion and traditional marriage. We have already experienced enough TRAGIC TRUCES when the so called pro-life democrats betrayed their standing and support for life and voted for ObamaCare. We surely don't need more of the same in the conservative leadership.

Los Angeles, Mike--
As always, it is so good to hear your point of view as I have always appreciated your position in giving our conservative leaders the benefit of the doubt.
However, I would venture to guess that Mitch Daniels is a very intellectual person as well as knowledgeable of how the word "truce" would be interpreted by most conservatives.
Therefore, I believe Gov. Huckabee is doing the right thing by calling Gov. Daniels out on this statement as he has a responsibility as the leader of Huck Pac to bring these issues up front for debate.
This could be a situation in which the Governor needs to address this further and explain exactly what he meant as this is not a time to play guessing games--too many are being evasive on their policies in case they might need to do a little flip flop for political gain. (not saying that is the case here.)
Anyway, this discussion is one that has been imo a very productive one as this issue has in a way been put on the back burner, and hopefully we can encourage candidates to be clear on exactly where they stand on this issue as well as the others.

Re: Mike,"Ride Along with Mitch"
cf. "Ride Along with Mitch" by Andrew Ferguson June 14, 2010, Vol. 15, No. 37 Weekly Standard
Mike, read over Governor Daniels' interview again. It is about 8000 words long and prints out to around 20 pages or so. It is a good interview. You can feel a little better, Mike. I think Mitch never suggests giving up the fight.
Governor Daniels talks about going vertical just like you. He does not use this expression. He uses the term truce instead to perhaps capture the "warlike" conditions he knows we are under now and the attention of those he would hope would stop their fighting: it is not the pro-life or traditional marriage crowd he is talking about.
Mitch tells those fighting for special entitlements, gross social welfare, or for a green economy based on their zealous belief in global warming to stop fighting the nation at this time for causes which cannot be paid for and in many cases are creating more damage than good for America.Overall, Mitch is saying we are really in a horrible, big mess and there is literally no more money or time to allow social, economic, and nation-buidling experimental games to continue. Over the past year, the shock-and-awe statism, as Daniels calls it, is putting our American experiment at risk.
Mike, Mitch is saying the only way now to get these "folks" to raise anything of a truce flag is to effectively convince the voters that you are there and supporters of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness in a fight for your lives to literally keep America vertical(alive). We now know where the gushers are located (MA, IA, CA, and DC). Plug the holes by cutting off the "oil" supply first to save our nation from being bled of our history, our heart, and our future.

Maya and Pegggy Stoler,
Your main thoughts are what I was trying to express. Most of us who post here want Mike Huckabee to be our next President. No, we need him to be our next President! I, too, am worried that too much emphasis on moral reform and not enough on kitchen issues may lose our opportunity to have a moral President.
One more thing I would add: If our candidate does not say, "I will return power back to the States and the people and I will eliminate any useless departments in the Federal Government"; we might as well elect another Donkey. -

Not An Either-Or Proposition
The choice between defending Life and defending the Republic is a "false choice."
We must never forsake the Right to Life of all persons, no matter how small or dependent. Otherwise we will have betrayed that right endowed by our Creator, enumerated first in our Declaration, and we will have ceased to be Americans. But make no mistake: That fight cannot distract us in the least from the fight - the political Armageddon - that will take place between now and November 2. If we conservative Republicans fail this year to reclaim Congress, the Obama agenda will ensue for 2+ more years in full fury, and we will have lost our constitutional republic and all political and legal recourse by which to defend Life. (Do not forget that this president, who voted three times to throw away babies surviving abortions in Illinois, pledged an oath before Planned Parenthood that he will sign the "Freedom of Choice Act.") The fights for Life and for our Republic are inseparable; they are virtually one and the same. We haven't a choice of giving 100%-0% or 0%-100% in these respective fights. We have no choice but to give 100%-100%. Now.
I absolutely reject the notion that social conservatism and fiscal conservatism are mutually exclusive. Indeed, Gov. Huckabee made unmistakably clear in his speech at CPAC last year that fiscal and social conservatism are interdependent.
I am a conservative, no qualifiers required.

Thank you for standing up for what is right. Abortion is not right it is wrong. What more needs to be said? It is killing. In the Christian scriptures it is said that God would not allow King David to build the temple because he had too much blood on his hands. If this is so and the Christian scripture also says that God is the same yesterday, today and forever. Then that means God does not want others for office who have too much blood on their hands. It stands to reason.
Keep up the good fight.

Abortion should be avoided at all costs, there are beautiful options including adoption by others who can not have a baby of their own, safe sanctuary programs at hospitals where they accept babies without embarrasment or charges against the mother and there's plenty of Churches and Social Welfare programs to help mothers. Abortion is very immoral... See More, it is indeed wrong and an affront to the Lord's way. While immoral, however, until our Government can pass a clear law against it, it is important to respect the law of Roe v. Wade which the U.S. Supreme Court decided.

This is kind of like the old argument of would you rather 1% of 100 or 100% of 0 ?
My point is, as bad as abortion is when a woman chooses to have that abortion there is NO IMMEDIATE IMPACT on my life or my families life.
Civil Union or Gay Marriage ? Again as an adult how in the world is it better for ME & MINE to have it called one way or the other?
Now - Border Security, Terrorism, Isreal vs. the World, Federal Deficits, Unfunded Mandates, SUPER BIG out of Control Federal Government, New World Order etc..,
These ARE ISSUES that have an immediate and dramatic effect on the quality of life for all of us. These HAVE TO BE #1 -
It is my belief that the reason the 4th Estate is so messed up and anti-conservative is because it is perceived that conservatives want to control and tell the individual HOW TO CONDUCT THEIR OWN AFFAIRS (abortion - gay marriage) and as a result if a conservative makes a mistake (see Fiorina hair comment vs.Browns comment of Whitman).
How can we be about individual rights granted by our creator and then at the same time try to impose our morals - in regards to personal choice - on the individual. How is this different than liberals banning salt, or trans fats - we cry it's our choice - and that is right -
Abortion should be a settled issue - allowed but unfunded by tax dollars. The mother to be and her higher authority will have to work it out. Gays - who really cares - as long as I am not forced to witness the practice - live and let live.
If we continue to fight on the individual issues thinking that somehow this will fix America then my friends we will have 100% of nothing - because the progressives are taking over and ruining the country with social issues that impact all of us.
IMO

Can anyone point to one bit of progress on abortion issues except to stir people up. The only things that can happen are defunding of Planned Parenthood and any worldwide funding that contributes to abortion, both sound policies for an econmic conservative who is pro life. As for gay marriage, the question of a Constitutional amenedment must stop now!!! There has only been one Constituional Amendment that has denied rights and that one needed to be repealed. The issue to the American people is clearly the overreaching of government into peoples rights and gross overspending. For those who think the answer to election is social issues may I remind you of a simple statement:"It is the economy stupid".

Thank you for your leadership Governor.
Those who want to trade away marriage and life issues claim they are "moderate" and will get more votes. But they alienate the religious moderates (including pastors I personally know) who vote based on those issues because they aren't fiscally conservative. I'm both fiscally and morally conservative, but it's pragmatic to keep those issues in the platform. Also, I'm so tired of people bashing Republicans who are morally conservative but not fiscally conservative. They're not RINOs - people like Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe are. -

A good leader must be able to do two things at once. He or she can focus on fiscal and moral issues at once, or we are in deep trouble. A President of the United States takes on the task not only of making financial decisions, but also military and soc destroying our society.
The Constitution and the Declaration of Independence are America's public documents that define and direct us. And "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" is a phrase that shows that our freedoms are based on the protection of life. There can be no turning away from protecting life and marriage if we are to maintain the freedom that has given America unprecedented prosperity and influence across the globe.
I am praying for you each day, Gov. Huckabee, and in my heart I believe it is your time. We need a strong, experienced, and intelligent leader like you to be our President, "for such a time as this."
I ask others to join me in praying daily for you and for our country. We are so divided and we need the Lord to bring us back to the things that have made us great, and those things are not the monetary wealth. We need fairer taxation and support for entrepreneurial enterprise. We need to strengthen families, which are the basic unit of society and which are struggling to survive. We need a leader who will protect and honor our freedom-loving allies, such as Israel and will stand against the enemies of our sovereignty.
God bless you, Gov. Huckabee, your wife and family, as well as your staff and supporters. And may God forgive America so He can bless America.
GRACE, in Kansas, PRAYING l concerns that are destroying our society.
GRACE, in Kansas, PRAYING

Governor,
This is your hour. You're the only person who stands ready, willing and able to lead this country in our darkest hour. "Sound the bell and proclaim liberty throughout the land." Let neither the tax collectors, nor the busybodies, nor Satan himself abuse and enslave this free people. We'll do our part, but we need a leader, and the only person currently fit to fill that leadership role is you, Governor Huckabee. -

Peter and Michael,
I did not intend to personally attack either one of you. I just believe that you should do some more research before making the types of statements you made.
Bottom line: If you value integrity and effectiveness in government: continue to support Gov. Mike Huckabee. If you do not, I suggest you support Gov. Mitt Romney or President Obama. They both have a record of dishonesty, making decisions based on public opinion polls rather than on sound leadership principles, and they both have signed similar healthcare "reform" bills as government executives. If you don't appreciate Mike Huckabee: one of the most experienced, clearly the most diplomatic, and definitely the most tolerant voice in politics today--perhaps you will appreciate the Romney/Obama "style" of policy leadership? You need to decide whether a real leader or "just another fake" who you think is "electable" is deserving of your continued support...a "Republican version" of Obama's character isn't going to legitimately move the U.S. forward in any way...we'll see how much wisdom the electorate has the next time around. -

Re: "You aren't engaged in any dialogues about these issues," and "You are taking your morality, and having decided everyone needs to live by it, forcing it on the American people."(Ryan)
Mr./Dr./Rev. Ryan: Have you watched all episodes of the Huckabee Show, all of Mike's video interviews, and all of the videos in which he discusses his positions? Are you not aware that he is currently the most civil, most respectful, and most fair public issue analyst in the U.S. when discussing these things with people who disagree with him entirely? Furthermore, perhaps you also need to re-read the U.S. Constitution, learn how to critically analyze current scientific research, and consider the laws of the vast majority of U.S. states before wrongly accusing Mike of imposing his morality on anyone. We already have laws and science supporting his positions on these issues, and only those with a very weak argument need to bring up the issue of morality. His support of potentially stronger laws/amendments would simply solidify the laws we already have, starting with the U.S. Constitution itself--which is gradually being eroded to the point that it is virtually unrecognizable in our nation... -

I am one of your biggest fans and figure that after our horrendous experience with Obama, that 70% of the country might be ready for you.
I agree that just because some deeply foundational issues are at a critical point, issues as important as abortion and support of traditional marriage should not forsaken on the alter of political expediency. However,
these are issues that run deep are so contentious, that de-emphansizing them, as compared to what we are facing now, might not be a bad idea. People know where you stand and what your record is. Since these issues have such lasting consequences to society as a whole, we can meet them when they rear their ugly head and try to inform hearts and minds in the meantime.
If we can meet the nation as a whole where we are, then, maybe the nation will be more receptive to information, evidence and outreach to the public.
BUT
To make these issues forefront at this historical moment in time may be a distraction from the pressing threats we face on a multitude of other levels. I believe we must be stabilized first and on a track towards economic survival, moving constructively to meet the critical concerns facing our nation, home and abroad, right now.Jobs (incentives to bring jobs back to US.,prepare workforce to move into jobs held by illegals now, and investing/incentivizing innovation for energy independence)
FairTax or something similar, working closely with governors on reducing Fed. funding for things we cannot afford anymore. Cut the administrative FAT.
Secure border. After we repeal all earmarks and freeze all future earmarks until employment levels and debt are within normal limits. Support our national defense above earmarks. Make the case.
Employ effective ways to track, identify and monitor who is here, coming in and going out of our country. Rules to discourage incentives for illegals and providing incentives for those in the shadows to come out and get a work visa, apply for citizenship (contingent on factors important for consideration) or face detainment and deportation with no re-entry. Their choice. School gyms to be identified, entered into system. Six month warning to all communities so no one can say they didn't know.
Streamlining government by cutting some reasonable % funding across the board, along with some review, accounting, analysis and warning given to each department head. Dissolution of outdated unproductive programs and Reassignment to more needed areas of service. Making Fed. pay commensurate with private industry.
Passing Health care legislation that removes burden from employers, incentives for competition among providers, policies that meet demand and pools to reduce costs, along with incentives to reduce premiums by offering health tests. If we can lower costs, increase access by HSA, tax breaks and weighted risk pools, giving regular donors better premiums we could relegate ObamaCare as unneeded and easier to repeal. By 2014, whatever tax funds saved can go toward solvency in Medicaid/care/SS. Half the working high earner population will be retiring. We need solutions.
Those things alone will be amazing.
You a such a gift to us. If you run you will have a ton of ammunition to for Obama to answer to. Why did he reject offers for skimmers and boom, leading us to believe there was not enough available and levels were low?

Governor, I think it's what you call Barry Goldwater Conservative. The social issues should not be legislated, they should be educated, and inspired BIG TIME, but right now we are in for the fight of our life to live in liberty or tyranny. We must slam the brakes on this Marxist president and his gang of thieves. I am a very strong conservative, but I want to live free, in a free market capitalist country. We need a leader to inspire values, moral and respect, but you can't legislate that. The divide is so great right now, Hollywood and the Left has destroyed our morals, but if you force it, you will have the likes of a rebellious teenager run in the other direction. I want to win back my country. I think Mitch Daniels is right, sorry.

Seed Sower, how wonderful it is to read a post from you again! I completely agree with what John Adams stated. I also agree with your follow up.
Unfortunately, I think that there are a few words that are "antique" in America today. Just to name a few...Repentance..Integrity..Honor..God Fearing. Actually, you NEVER hear on the nightly news or even in a casual conversation that a person is God Fearing. No one fears God, that is our ROOT problem in America.Peter

Re: "Stick to the constitutional powers that should (but have not) limited our government." (Staats)
Mr./Dr./Rev.? Staats, perhaps you might consider re-reading the U.S. Constitution, studying the current scientific (not theological) evidence regarding "when human life begins," remembering the fact that murder is a crime in this country, and recognizing that most states recognize marriage as a union between one man and one woman? If you're going to imply that you are an expert on both the constitution and other laws--you might also want to reflect on the point that Mike is not "Straying into bedroom issues...," but that he is addressing legitimate legal and government issues much deeper than your shallow analysis suggests. -

Some one on here said that the views expressed by Gov. Huckabee would drive them to the tea party. Guess what, the tea party largely embraces these views. The tea party is not all libertarian.

I don't know if my last comment posted, but if it did, I apologize to you, Governor. I was responding to another post. Governor Daniels said, "The next President... Well after the election or battle is won, then I feel like we can use the bully pulpit to speak to the hearts and minds of America about the heartbreak of abortion. Governor Daniels was trying to help win the war by his comments, but better to stay strong in love and humility. I believe you have the right stuff. Thanks for being a moral compass. But also, thanks for supporting FAIRTAX.

I do not think I agree with Charles Finney. We are to present ourselves as holy but not pious; which is what I get from his writing. Humility is more to my interpretation of the Scripture. Living the right example in love accomplishes much more for The Lord and is line with Christ's character. I know some of you will remind me of the money changers. I did not say we should be wimps.
Yes we are in a battle for the hearts and minds of the world, but standing strong without being overbearing is what sales our position to non-believers.
Dearest Governor and all: After we have won with the battle, we can rebuild with the bully pulpit. -

Dear Gov. Huckabee,
Thank you for your strong stand for the pro-life plank of the Republican party. It is because of leaders like you that we have a whole new younger generation who are pro-life. Going on shows to discuss the pro-life cause with Jon Stewart or discussing traditional marriage with Rosie O'Donnell shows all Americans that we can discuss these topics without attacking one another. You have shown that we can change hearts and minds.
As to Gov. Daniels comments about calling a truce. A good leader can handle many crises at once. But in order to do so, one has to have a solid moral compass. Yes, we need to cut spending and reduce the deficit. But we can do that while also defending the unborn. There should not have to be an either or situation.
I hope that you will run in 2012. We need a leader like you who will stand strong for our economy, stand strong for Israel, stand strong against radical Islamic terrorism, and while doing all of that, stand strong for the unborn and traditional marriage.
Huckabee 2012!

Thank you, Governor Huckabee, for your comments on this. I am from Indiana and have for a while been disappointed with Governor Daniels. He is a nice guy, but he is a member of the GOP establishment. I think that what he said reveals his true colors and I, for one, am thankful we know now where he stands instead of finding out later (should he decide to run for President). I don't believe this was misspoken on his part, but rather reveals where his heart currently is. I am praying for Governor Daniels to bury his mind in the Word of God over the next several days and decide for himself what is truth and to stand with that truth. He can change his views and I pray that he will.
If we don't stand stand by the truth according to God's Word there will be even more of an economic disaster waiting in the wings. I know not everyone believes in God's Word as the ultimate truth, but I have heard Governor Daniels declare his faith in God and in that way he knows the truth. If we compromise on life and marriage we will no longer know freedom. John 8:32 says: "If you hold to my teachings you are truly my disciples. Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free."
I would much rather lose an election than to compromise our stance on the truth. Calling for a "truce" just to win is trusting in man rather than God.
We must continue to trust in the Lord and he will guide our ship!

More government intrusion in our personal lives is not what we need. Stick to the constitutional powers that should (but have not) limited our government. Straying into bedroom issues will only drive center/right republicans like me to the Tea Party.

"For those of us who have labored long and hard in the fight to educate the Democrats, voters, the media and even some Republicans on the importance of strong families, traditional marriage and life to our society, this is absolutely heartbreaking."
Governor you aren't educating on these things. What you seek to do is legislate these things.
Education involves discussion, and conversation. You aren't engaged in any dialogues about these issues. Your screaming on Fox News, calling people names, and forcing people that might agree with you if they were educated, away with your line-in-the-sand mentality.
You are taking your morality, and having decided everyone needs to live by it, forcing it on the American people.
Abortion won't go away because you make it difficult to have or even illegal. Abortion will end when we eliminate unwanted pregnancies, and provide the care, support, and systems for women carrying an unwanted child to bring the baby to term and have it adopted. Of course that takes fiscal resources - ie taxing and spending - which we know is a greater evil to many republicans than the value of life.
I do continue to support your efforts to resurrect traditional marriage. The first step of course is stopping gay marriage. But we cannot stop there. Protecting traditional marriage means ending no-fault divorce, and overturning Loving v. Virginia. And we must once again return women to chattel.

STILL STANDING UP FOR THE BABIES !!
"Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his RIGHTEOUSNESS; and all these things shall be added unto you. (Matthew 6:33)
(Yes, "Righteousness" as in protecting and saving God's own creation)
It has always been ingrained in me that if you honor God's word .. then he will take care of all the rest of your worries.
(e.g. the fiscal dilemma we are in with this oil spill, etc.)The majority of Americans did not honor God and put him first when they voted someone into office that has no conscience when it comes to protecting the unborn and is not honoring traditional family marriages.
We are now in far more dire straits than when George W. Bush left office (one who did stand up for the unborn, marriage)"Without Faith, it is impossible to please God" (Hebrews 11:6)
For those who can only view life in the natural, I do feel sorry for you. Some of you apparently have no Faith at all ... you only see with the natural eye.
"The natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned."
(I Cor. 2:14)I don't want any leaders to be playing political games or using bargaining chips as Gov. Huckabee described with the life of the unborn and traditional family marriages either.

Mike,
I have been a supporter of your positions on most issues since you first appeared on the national scene. I must say, however, that you are fighting a losing battle on abortion and gay marriage. To outlaw abortion will only bring back the back alley abortion mills of the 40's & 50's that killed and maimed so many women. I understand your passion, but it will not stop abortions. Those who can afford it will leave the country, those that can't will die in the streets. It's admirable to take the moral high ground, but even there the tide will wash you away. As for gay marriage, all people deserve the legal right to participate in medical and legal decisions for their partners. My daughter and newborn grandson were driven away by a man who announced he was gay just days after the birth of my grandson; so you can believe that I have a personal interest in this issue. My anger at him will never go away, but as much as many politicians would like to blame all gun owners for the actions a few crazies, we can't blame all gays for the actions of a few. I admire your effort, but it is beyond the point of success.
