Congratulations to the Boy Scouts of America

Congratulations to the Boy Scouts of America as they celebrate their 100th anniversary. As a long time member of the Boy Scouts I know firsthand the value of this fine organization. I belong to Troop 5 in the Caddo Area Council and am also a member of the order of the Arrow Akela Wahinipay Lodge 232. Over the years I have had the opportunity to be involved in many of the activities of the BSA.

The Boy Scouts of America was officially incorporated on February 8, 1910. Just a hundred years ago, America was a far different country. We earned an average of $750 a year, and paid a little more than 30 cents for a gallon of milk. Of course, our national debt was only a billion dollars. Times sure have changed. But the Boy Scouts have remained a constant in America’s life.

From the inception of the Scouting movement, Scouts have been urged to “Do a Good Turn Daily.” That’s not a bad philosophy for each of us to try to follow. Scouting helps provide our nation with strong, healthy leaders. Perhaps that is why eleven of the twelve men to walk on the moon were Scouts. I hope that each of you will join me in congratulating the Boy Scouts of America as they celebrate their 100th anniversary. We need the positive influence of the BSA now more than ever.

    Congratulations to the Boy Scouts of America. We have encouraged all the young men in our family and circle of friends to become active in the Boy Scouts. My husband and I have worked with Scouts for many years, and my husband has so appreciated being a Boy Scout in his youth, and all the character-building lessons he learned.

    This Eagle Scout thanks you, Mike Huckabee, for lifting up the Boy Scouts.

    I was in Troop 26 of Tulsa, OK (see here: http://troop26.org/Troop26/), and also was inducted into the Order of the Arrow.

    On my honor I will do my best
    To do my duty to God and my country
    and to obey the Scout Law;
    To help other people at all times;
    To keep myself physically strong,
    mentally awake, and morally straight.

    The Boy Scouts of America have helped many boys grow to doing the right things and become better citizens of the country they represent.

    A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent.

    One of the laws our government should heed is, practice and encourage being thrifty. If they did, we wouldn't have the horrendous National Debt, we are saddled with for generations.

    Ron was a member of the Boy Scouts and Ron is for the Fair Tax

    The Boy Scouts of America is a great organization. I just became an Eagle Scout in January and I thank you for acknowledging this anniversary. I think that all Americans should follow the scout slogan "Do a good turn daily" as well as the scout motto "Be prepared." Too bad our politicians weren't prepared for the recession.
