The Tea Party Movement is Changing America

The 21st century Tea Party movement is changing America. That’s not an overstatement, it is a fact.

The original Tea Party happened on December 16, 1773, when 5,000 patriots gathered at the Old South Meeting House, a site used for both worship and politics. Our Tea Party ancestors tossed the tea overboard to protest “taxation without representation” because they weren’t permitted to elect a member to the British parliament.

Today we have seen our government turn a deaf ear to the people, pushing through bailouts and stimulus spending without representation. For months they’ve tried their best to push through a health care bill that few wanted, only to be stopped again this time by the Massachusetts Tea Party and the election of Scott Brown on January 19.

But mark my words: Congressional Democrats and President Obama haven’t given up.
Now we are hearing rumors that the Senate may try to use reconciliation to get around the filibuster. Just another procedural maneuver to thwart the will of the people. Every member of Congress knows in their heart that the American people don’t want the health care bill that Congress has before it and yet they continue to push for it out of arrogance.

The Tea Party movement was started by Americans insisting on fiscal responsibility in government, limited government based on the Constitution, and the free market system. They played a large role in the town hall meetings in August, at which lawmakers got an earful, they helped propel Republicans to victory in Virginia and New Jersey in November and again this month in Massachusetts. Now it’s time for the Tea Party patriots to step up again and help raise the pressure on Congress to bury Obama-care once and for all. I know they will. And I will step up with them.

You know? I used to like Bill Maher, but now I realize he is a Progressive. He thinks the Tea Party is nothing but a cult and that Democrats should just go ahead and bring forth the health care bill. I bet if he voted for something and it won on the ballot he would expect the will of the voter to be heard.

To think this man used to be a Republican. I'm seriously thinking about cutting off HBO and saving the money every month. He was the only reason I picked up that channel.

I really wonder how Bill Maher and Ann Coulter get along. She thinks all Democrats are traitors and should be brought up on treason charges. He had her on his show Real Time once but was careful not to make her mad. It was like he was afraid. Well, now I think Bill is nothing but a total complete jerk!

I heard Governor Sarah Palin is trying to merge the Tea Party with the Republican party. I hope this doesn't happen. It could ruin everything because the GOP is going down the tubes with the democrats and I hate to see the Tea Party dragged down with them.

I'm not really a tea bagger but will vote with them to get these politicians who talk at us rather than to us, out! They were told on January 19, 2010 that the voters didn't want that health care bill yet they insist on foisting it upon us.

The voter dumped everything Kennedy into the river. What part of that doesn't the Obama Administration understand?

Why did most of our Republican Senators vote to confirm Ben Bernanke for another term as Fed. chairman? This guy is the one that gave us the original bailout back in Sept. 2008 and cost the Republicans the election because John McCain voted for it. (I noticed that he learned that he had made a mistake and voted against his confirmation this time.) I am proud of my Republican sit-in Senator from Florida George LeMieux for voting against him and I am also proud of the 11 Democrats that took the courageous stand to vote against him proving that they were not beholden to "His Majesty" Obama! However, if you have Republican senator from your state that voted to keep this guy in office, I urge you to get him or her out of office and put a real Republican in their place this next election!

    Thanks, Lindsey

    A couple of my thoughts:

An investment of a hundred million dollars to harden our electronic infrastructure could greatly lessen the catastrophic affect of "once in a hundred years" type solar-flare on our country. A solar storm of the kind that happened in 1859 could be devastating to our country today because we have so much sensitive electronics that we rely on in our day to day lives. When telegraph lines and equipment of old were fried from a solar storm in the 1800's wasn't a big deal - our modern electrical power grid is important to our survival.

    http://article.nationalreview.com/422973/the-sun-also-flares/clifford-d-may?page=1

Newt Gingrich and Glenn Beck have talked about this in the past including the impact EMP weapons could have on our power and electronics.

Obama should act now. A failure on his part to act responsibly might (depending on what the sun and America's enemies do) could leave large parts of this country without reliable electricity for many months at best. Electricity isn't something that modern Americans and our economy can function without.

It would be irresponsible for Obama to not act now - and this could be a campaign issue for anyone in either party who chooses to run against Obama.

Also, as I've mentioned before the presidents failure to address the crises of vitamin d deficiency is costing the country a lot of money. Just a few of the problems alone raise the cost to our economy to more than $90,000,000,000.00 a year. (Ninety Billion+ bucks a year.)
    http://www.lef.org/magazine/mag2009/jan2009_Millions-of-Needless-Deaths_01.htm

And that figure wasn't even adding up some of the costs of some major groups of cancers. Nor was it including numerous birth defects, failed pregnancies, premature births requiring expensive NICU care, costs of autoimmune diseases, the onset of diabetes, weakened muscles, falls and accidents etc... all heightened by vitamin d deficiency - let's not even touch the cost of autism - (the link between vitamin d deficiency and autism is now getting stronger.)
    http://www.vitamindcouncil.org/newsletter/new-harvard-paper-on-autism.shtml
If the government isn't going to fix the problem (if we are all going to accept a libertarian - or maybe see a more limited role of government as envisioned by our founding fathers) - we should each make some effort to raise some awareness of this problem. (And Mike Huckabee has frequently relayed some such studies on his radio program.)

I would think that in a free-market system, the insurance companies ought to be leading the way to keep costs down? Why aren't they? Are they all filled with statisticians and number crunchers who have no interest in science or health? Should the American consumer and American Companies be demanding cheaper insurance for those who have good vitamin d levels and better health?

If as Glenn Beck and Ronald Reagan say, "Government isn't the answer - it is the problem" then how can we tackle this issue? Are we wasting our time trying to work with the government? Instead of writing the government emails and letters maybe we should write insurance companies instead?

The government and/or society will eventually get a grip on vitamin d deficiency ... but the slowness from this point forward will likely cost us trillions of dollars more than if the problem was immediately remedied.

My wife and I both identify with the "Tea" Party perhaps more than we ever have any political party. Last night we watched President Obama deliver the Stat of the Union - its apparent that the President and the Democratic leaders of Congress still do not understand why we identify with the Tea Party. We watched the Republican counter point given by the Governor of VA., and I'm not sure he quite captured it either.

For us, its not just about opposition to any one program or political initiative, they just qualify the reasons. I think that in order for any politician to fully understand why my wife and I identify with the Tea Party, they must first understand our conception of the role of government.

    1) Our government has no authority accept that which we invest it with and cede to it. As this is a zero sum gain, we wish to cede only that which we believe required to fulfill its role. Further, Government has no wealth but that which it derives from taxation, it has no money of its own, and is not (nor should it be) a source of wealth generation.

    2) The role of government should be as limited as possible to enabling and facilitating the pursuit of legitimate activities by the individuals who constitute the governed. It should not be in the business of determining by itself, or by a few what is justice and what is justness. It should not assume the role of social provider because it does not by nature have the means to do so unless it "fundamentally transforms" itself to be other than it was constituted.

That the President, the Speaker of the House and the Senate Majority leader seem bent on violating those two premises, and in fact undermining them and reinventing the United States in their image shows they do not understand the Tea Party movement. Their understanding is limited to denigrating it as being motivated by race, class or privilege. They simply lack the faculties required to accept that we seek to preserve our freedoms and conserve the role of government because to otherwise equates to tyranny.

I hope we don't lose the fire because we win a few political victories here and there, or even if we return our present government to one that better reflects our conservative values. To truly ensure our freedoms means we should remain engaged.

Governor, thanks for hosting this forum.

    Best Regards, Rob Thornton

Huck, thank you for saying you are in step with us. We probably knew this about you already. But it is good to hear your encouragement.

For the most part, individual TEA Party organizations can not afford to pay a large speaker fee for a visit from you. But if you could fit in an event for Les Phillips in Huntsville I am sure you would have folks from all over Alabama coming to support it.

Also, my husband and I represent District 6 with FAIRTAX and we would be very happy to have volunteers and supporters at a TEA party rally featuring you and Les Phillips. Fairtax is represented at most of the Tea Party events.

Les was the guest speaker at our Rainy Day Patriots in Hoover (suburb of Birmingham) last Thursday night. He is a great Huckpac endorsement! I suggested to Les and his Campaign Manager about having a town Hall meeting strictly on FAIRTAX between now and April 15.

As you know, this is the optimum time to teach FairTax principles.

Also, if we advertise this event, we might be able to increase our Huckpac involvement in Alabama. If you would consider this a good opportunity, please contact Les and Melissa.

    Thanks for your consideration.

I think the white, progressive, socialist NWO types are gonna abandon Obama and throw him under the bus, so they can position a replacement.

The problem with Obama isn't that he's not a progressive, communist, radical, it's that he's black, and his sympathy (if not allegiance) is slanted towards the Black Muslim community and the communist leftists second. That would make him a little too unpredictable and dangerous for the puppet masters. The communists may have helped to create him, but beneath the surface his personal identity will determine where his loyalties really lie.

With his latest moves against the banks, I think he's starting to show his true colors more and it's making some of the most powerful people nervous. If the media, the Democrats and the Soros' of the NWO don't consider him a liability already they will soon enough. With the rising tide of Conservatism, The Tea Parties and what is looking to be a Republican landslide in 2010, it makes sense for the Democrats to abandon Obama to save themselves. I anticipate that they're going to help facilitate his fall so they don't all go down with him. Look for other leaders to emerge from the left and try to recapture the middle, I think there will another candidate in 2012.

A friend of mine forwarded this email to me – don’t know whether or not it’s a genuine sermon, but it makes sense. The subject line reads PASTOR EXPLAINS BIBLICAL REFERENCES TO GOVERNMENT TAKE-OVER:

“Good morning, brothers and sisters; it's always a delight to see the pews crowded on Sunday morning, and so eager to get into God's Word. Turn with me in your Bibles, if you will to the 47th chapter of Genesis, we'll begin our reading at verse 13, and go through verse 27.

Brother Ray, would you stand and read that great passage for us?

    (reading of Genesis 47:13 - 27) . . .

Thank you for that fine reading, Brother Ray . . . So we see that economic hard times fell upon Egypt, and the people turned to the government of Pharaoh to deal with this for them. And Pharaoh nationalized the grain harvest, and placed the grain in great storehouses that he had built. So the people brought their money to Pharaoh, like a great tax increase, and gave it all to him willingly in return for grain. And this went on until their money ran out, and they were hungry again.

So when they went to Pharaoh after that, they brought their livestock - their cattle, their horses, their sheep, and their donkey - to barter for grain, and verse 17 says that only took them through the end of that year. But the famine wasn't over, was it? So the next year, the people came before Pharaoh and admitted they had nothing left, except their land and their own lives. "There is nothing left in the sight of my lord but our bodies and our land. Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for food, and we with our land will be servants to Pharaoh." So they surrendered their homes, their land, and their real estate to Pharaoh's government, and then sold themselves into slavery to him, in return for grain.

What can we learn from this, brothers and sisters? That turning to the government instead of to God to be our provider in hard times only leads to slavery? Yes. That the only reason government wants to be our provider is to also become our master? Yes. But look how that passage ends, brothers and sisters! Thus Israel settled in the land of Egypt , in the land of Goshen . . . And they gained possessions in it, and were fruitful and multiplied greatly." God provided for His people, just as He always has! They didn't end up giving all their possessions to government, no, it says they gained possessions!

But I also tell you a great truth today, and an ominous one. We see the same thing happening today - the government today wants to "share the wealth" once again, to take it from us and redistribute it back to us. It wants to take control of healthcare, just as it has taken control of education, and ration it back to us, and when government rations it, then government decides who gets it, and how much, and what kind. And if we go along with it, and do it willingly, then we will wind up no differently than the people of Egypt did four thousand years ago - as slaves to the government, and as slaves to our leaders.

What Mr. Obama's government is doing now is no different from what Pharaoh's government did then, and it will end the same. And a lot of people like to call Mr. Obama a "Messiah," don't they? Is he a Messiah? A savior? Didn't the Egyptians say, after Pharaoh made them his slaves,
"You have saved our lives; may it please my lord, we will be servants to Pharaoh"?

Well, I tell you this - I know the Messiah; the Messiah is a friend of mine; and Mr. Obama is no Messiah! No, brothers and sisters, if Mr. Obama is a character from the Bible, then he is Pharaoh. Bow with me in prayer, if you will.

Lord, You alone are worthy to be served, and we rely on You, and You alone. We confess that the government is not our deliverer, and never rightly will be. We read in the eighth chapter of 1 Samuel, when Samuel warned the people of what a ruler would do, where it says "And in that day you will cry out because of your king, whom you have chosen for yourselves, but the LORD will not answer you in that day." And Lord, we acknowledge that day has come. We cry out to You because of the ruler that we have chosen for ourselves as a nation. Lord, we pray for this nation. We pray for revival, and we pray for deliverance from those who would be our masters. Give us hearts to seek You and hands to serve You, and protect Your people from the atrocities of Pharaoh's government. Amen.”

    In God We Trust.

What do you think about this idea? For everyone over age 50 who loses their job, Uncle Sam should deposit DOUBLE our monthly salary in our checking account so we can pay our bills and start our own business. Then on April 15, they can send us a check for DOUBLE our ANNUAL SALARY AGAIN! How does that sound? I LOVE THIS TAX PLAN!

I enjoyed reading all the comments on this post.

We do need to support the candidates who practice fiscal responsibility, accountability and know who their boss is. The days of secret meetings and back room deals needs to be discouraged. It is unbelievable how many agencies have been added since 9/11. If Cap and Trade and Health Care bills passed there would probably be again, twice that number of agencies, unbelievable.

Reading comments from people who support the Tea Party movement and support the Fair Tax is encouraging.

The people are definitely waking up.

Illinois has a chance to join the movement:
From "CAN ANYONE CLEAN UP AMERICA’S MOST CORRUPT STATE GOVERNMENT?"

Adam Andrzejewski is a “reform activist,” according to The Daily Herald. According to people I’d trust with my life—or my kids’ lives—he’s about America, the Tea Party ideals, Illinois, and a whole bunch of other things before you get to GOP. That might not sit well with career Republican activists, but should sit well with independents, conservative Democrats, and Republican voters. Not to mention the center-right coalition that includes Libertarian and Constitution Party members.

From Nice job, Massachusetts; now it's Illinois' turn

"People in Illinois are as angry as they ever have been," said FOX Chicago political analyst Thom Serafin on Wednesday. "Their anger is anti-establishment, anti-incumbent. I wouldn't be surprised if it manifests itself in a third-party challenge in the general election."

There is less than two weeks until voters go to the polls in the Illinois party primaries, and Serafin is right, they are angry indeed, and still, the establishment plods along.

In the race for governor, it's a contest between two tax-and-spend types on the Democratic side. Among the Republicans, except for conservatives Adam Andrzejewski and Dan Proft, a posse of Illinois establishment types tries to hoodwink voters into believing that the establishment guys are really outsiders. In Massachusetts, the Kennedys lorded over the commonwealth's politics for half a century as if power was their birthright. But we've got our own lords and dukes right here in Illinois. The Daleys and the Madigans, for example.

But unlike in Massachusetts, the spoils of Illinois are shared among warlords in both parties. It's called the Combine.

There is no clear frontrunner in the crowded field of candidates. Most of those in the race have deep ties to the Illinois Republican establishment, which isn’t the best qualification in the current climate. In the closing days of the campaign, the race seems wide-open.

Big Government has also learned that several tea party organizations, both in Illinois and out of state, are mobilizing their members behind Andrzejewski. This could be one to watch next week.

    Dear Friends and Supporters,
It's been nearly a year and a half since my campaign for Maine's 1st District Congressional seat. Serving as a candidate was an incredibly rewarding experience for my family and me and I remain grateful for the warmth and support you showed me throughout our journey together.

Our campaign touched many people and was unique in many ways. We provided a platform and a voice for people who feel that politics has become an arena for career politicians who shape their views based on the prevailing political polls. We built an small army of Maine citizens who care deeply about the critical issues facing our nation; people who are not afraid to boldly and proudly take a stand. Together we succeeded in ushering in a revival of conservative grassroots activism as evidenced by the hundreds of first-time volunteers that made phone calls, posted signs on their lawns, participated in our events and donated their hard-earned money.

As my friends and supporters, I come to you now for advice during a critical time in our state and nation's history. During the past few weeks, a number of prominent local and national Republican leaders have approached me about the possibility of becoming a candidate for Maine's 1st Congressional District seat in 2010. Energized by the recent stunning Republican victories in New Jersey and Virginia and bracing for a "red wave" in 2010, Republicans are looking for principled conservative candidates to step up and run in competitive districts all across the country.

My wife Dawn and I had a long talk the other night about the world our two children, Jack and Zoe, will inherit. Under a new President, our country is rapidly moving on a path towards socialism. A government takeover of out healthcare is on the horizon; a broken job market is leaving a number of talented, hardworking people wondering how they will make ends meet; and our congressional leaders seem content to be complicit in the collapse of the economy. For the sake of our family and the millions of families concerned about the future of our country, conservative Americans cannot sit by and allow our future to disappear without a fight. We pledged that our family would make the sacrifices necessary to LEAD that fight.

Judy Shelton, author and economist, once observed, "money is a moral contract between government and its citizens." Years of reckless spending by Republicans and Democrats alike has devalued and deflated more than just the dollar. Our government is headed toward insolvency and our elected officials continue to default on their moral obligation to reduce spending and stop borrowing. To the contrary, they are spending and borrowing at a greater pace than ever before.

The dollar should reflect the productivity and ingenuity of this great nation. Instead, the dollar has come to reflect government excess, unfunded liabilities, and the legacy of entitlements that politicians have promised in order to triumph in elections. The bill for generations of politician's promises has come due on our watch, and borrowing from China is approaching critical mass. We must forge one last fight, or this era of fiscal irresponsibility will consume us. This great moral conflict will be played out next election cycle, and I would like to be on the team that fights the good fight - your team.

In the coming weeks, Dawn and I have an important decision to make regarding a potential run for Congress. I am asking for your strong support once again, this time to assist me with the exploratory process. I need to determine whether a Scontras candidacy can garner the early financial support necessary to compete against a career politician like Chellie Pingree, with her access to unlimited funds and muscle in this new era of Chicago-style politics in Washington, DC.

I have assembled the Scontras Congressional Exploratory Committee to begin collecting pledges of financial support to measure the strength of a potential Scontras 2010 congressional campaign. Your early support is crucial if my campaign is to become a reality in 2010.

Please reply directly to this e-mail and consider making an initial pledge of as little as $10 and as much as $2,400 per individual if you are interested in joining me once again in a fight for the future of Maine and America. I would appreciate any financial support you can give.

    Sincerely,

    Dean Scontras

The former Florida quarterback and his mother will appear in a 30-second commercial during the Super Bowl next month. The Christian group Focus on the Family says the Tebows will share a personal story centering on the theme "Celebrate Family, Celebrate Life."

The group isn't releasing details, but the commercial is likely to be an anti-abortion message chronicling Pam Tebow's 1987 pregnancy. After getting sick during a mission trip to the Philippines, she ignored a recommendation by doctors to abort her fifth child and gave birth to Tim.

The 2007 Heisman Trophy winner ended his college career with several NCAA, Southeastern Conference and school records, and two national championships. Tebow also has been very involved in his family's Christian-based ministry.

Jim Daly, president and CEO of Focus on the Family, said the commercial comes at a time when "families need to be inspired."

"Tim and Pam share our respect for life and our passion for helping families thrive," Daly said. "Focus on the Family is about ... strengthening families by empowering them with the tools they need to live lives rooted in morals and values."

Thirty-second commercials during the Super Bowl are selling for between $2.5 million and $2.8 million. Daly said all the funds for the ad came from a handful of "very generous and committed friends," and that no money from the group's general fund was used.

"Now that the ad has been shot, we're excited to tell people it's coming because the Tebows' story is such an important one for our culture to hear," he said. "You won't want to miss it."

How has Tebow not been a guest on Huckabee????

G.H. should get to know him......would be an influential endorsement in Fla. come 2012

My biggest fear is that the Tea Party movement over time will end up segmented by factions concerned about their own particular desires or agendas. Second on the list is that we'll grab onto a personality that suddenly bursts onto the political scene without honestly scrutinizing that person's voting record or beliefs.

It is comforting to know that history is a reliable predictor of the present and Governor Huckabee understands this better than most. There is a rather famous quote from John Adams, who was certainly no fan of mob action, after the Boston Tea Party. "There is a dignity, a majesty, a sublimity in this last effort of patriots that I greatly admire."

John Adams went on to gain two terms as President, while irritating a majority of the political elite with his intransigent ethical positions. Not to mention his correspondance with his wife Abagail--no slouch in the intellect department--is now the basis for Hollywood treatment.

    I hope history repeats itself.

If this bill passes, the healthcare plan that I have for me and my two children that is only $135 a month, will be over. The policy only covers what we need. If my insurer is told they have to cover more, things i don't need, the price will go up. My family doesn't have the money to spend $400+ on a 'Cadillac plan' offered through my wife's work.
I wish the public was informed on what this bill is really trying to do. Universal healthcare in America exists. If you break your arm, an ambulance will pick you up, take you to a hospital and you will be treated. If you take your sick child to the hospital, they will be treated. All this bill is doing is making sure irresponsible people can remain that way and not have to pay the bill for treatment.

Thanks, Gov. Huckabee! It's a blessing to have you on our side!!!

As I sat in our church on Sunday- listening to the inspired lady from the "Woman's assistance center" in our area speaking of the 48 million abortions. I thought "Where were our church people 2 years ago when Texas voted?". I guess they were distracted. I heard a lot of support for Huckabee, but I also heard a lot of "I'm for McCain" "I'd take Huckabee as my pastor- but not my president". For people who want to honor God- it seemed a chance for them to have someone who really does have a passion to protect the unborn. Also, I think I'd much rather have Mike Huckabee for my President than my Pastor.

I hope you will have the strength to continue to do what's right Mike.

My 1st real involment in the political process (aside from voting EVERY TIME I COULD)was when Mike Huckabee was campaigning in Iowa. Never before had we contributed money to a campaign. I made phone calls, sent emails, blogged, etc. for Mike. A 'First' for all of that.

My 1st Tea Party was in Grand Island, NE on April 15th, 2009. We've been to more since then, including going to Omaha to hear Judge Napolitano a couple of weeks ago.

Every Tuesday in Hastings, NE are 'We the People' meetings. We're there nearly every time. The alarm has sounded, and we're no longer asleep. We will remain a Soverign people!

We are really hoping that Ben Nelson gives us the satisfaction of running for re-election. He may want to take some notes from Marth's concession speech!!

    Tea anyone? There's a revolution a brewin'!!

This is so encouraging, gov. Huckabee. I have had the privilege of being a core member of our local tea party in Gordon County for about six months.

We are having some wonderful turn outs at our meetings, and are very excited about participating in future events.

We now have a Ning web site. Please feel free to check it out!

Right on! TEA stands for Taxed Enough Already! I am FairTax presenter in northern Indiana. My main audiences are Tea Party groups, 9/12ers, other Patriot organizations and politicans (Mark Souder became a co-sponsor last month). The people I meet are afraid of losing their country. They are tired of being taxed to death and tired of the Washington trickery. They want honest representation not abuse of power. The Tea Party movement is growing and will be a powerful force come November. "Don't tread on me" is a message not to be ignored.

It makes me sick to my stomach to know that these Liberals in Congress and The White House continue to ignore the American peoples voice! What is this world coming to ? Was Not our country founded a totally different way than it is being represented today?

I still think this is a great opportunity for the Republican Party to experience a revival of principle. Thus far, the GOP hasn't listened. We tea partiers want a return to TRUE limited government. Not in precept or principle, but in reality. A sincere desire for fiscal responsibility, Constitutional adherence, and other factors are making more and more Republicans gravitate toward the Libertarian "Ron Paul" arm of the Party. If the GOP continues not to listen and refuses to realign themselves, the party could easily fragment between their Libertarian arm, their "Fox News" arm, and their more moderate "Olympia Snow" arm. The GOP may retain their "Fox News" arm and "Olympia Snow" arm, but the Libertarian arm is likely to become cohesive and break away, taking the possibility of a GOP majority with it.

I have very few Republican friends who thought George W. Bush or John McCain was conservative enough. Read the Constitution. If it isn't in there, DON'T DO IT! It isn't rocket science.

The people DO NOT want the current health care reform to go forward. The process needs to be started from scratch with ALL elected officials participating in an open door process, i.e. C-Span, as promised.
    Remember, Obama?????

If their plan is so great then let Congress put themselves and their staffs under it, instead of on the sweetheart deal they concocted for themselves at taxpayer expense.
