If Lawmakers Don't Work Hard for You in 2010, Throw the Bums Out
by Mike Huckabee
The New Year gives us a gate to the next chapter of our lives. We tend to look back to assess what we've learned from the past year and use the fresh start of a new calendar to promise ourselves that things will be different in the coming year.
I've learned this year that the more government tries to do to fix the economy, the worse it gets. I know they mean well, but spending money we don't have and borrowing money we can't afford to pay back really isn't working out for us.
It would be nice if in the New Year, the president and Congress would figure out that businesses could grow and create jobs — real jobs, if they weren't scared sick that they will have what little profit margin they are making go poof because of increased costs of doing business; whether it's health care taxes, huge energy cost hikes because of cap-and-trade, or the unionization of their employees. More than Americans want government to tinker with trying to repair the economy, we want to see jobs. If Congress really wants to help the economy, let me suggest they do the following:
1. Instead of their automatic pay raise at the first of the year, they should vote to cut their pay by 10 percent.
2. They should shut down every other month and spend the off month solely in their own districts, meeting with constituents and hearing from their bosses.
3. They ought to pledge that they will sponsor the Fair Tax, and promise that after 12 years, they will retire and not accept a congressional pension other than the Social Security that other Americans receive.
4. They should cut their staffs and budget by 15 percent to show real cost-saving stewardship.
5. They should pledge not to spend anything that isn't covered in a balanced budget and not to start any new program for at least two years.
You probably think that they won't do those things. Probably not. So here's the backup plan: Since they work for you, if they don't show responsible leadership and sacrifice, work really hard this year to give someone else a chance by firing the members of Congress that don't listen to you and hire someone who does.

Brian Snow writes 01/08/2010 02:07 PM:
"Now you understand why they are in a hurry to pass Obamacare at all costs, even if it requires their last gasp of political breath. Get as many people as possible in the system in order to hasten its implosion. They are prepared to raise from its ashes a new order, a new government, a new system of economic equality on that glorious day."
If this is true, it follows the lines of "End Time Prophecy". Something to think about! -

The expenses for the healthcare plan working through Congress won't start until after four years of collecting tax on it. Maybe, just maybe, somehow a new president and new congress can reverse course before it gets underway.
Ronald Reagan remarked that the nearest thing on earth to eternal life is - "a government program".
My impression is that it is very hard for governments to cut spending. I know bad examples where government didn't cut spending and hyper-inflation resulted. Are there any good examples of Governments who cut benefits?
I just now answered my own question. China. China was a communist country with a government safety net. They ripped up their safety net and now they are a free-market communist society with a fast growing economy.
Could we possibly elect a president that will reduce the debt by the same amount that the current administration and congress has increased it?
Could the next president, through persuasion, encourage the American people to give up a reliance on government benefits in favor of a pro growth economy much like China has done?
I expressed alarm about higher energy costs strangling any recovery in a comment I made yesterday. I'd just like to point to the following chart in order to help people realize that solar energy is on a trajectory to eventually become a major and cheap source of energy.
http://www.observatorynano.eu/project/filesystem/images/2en.p04.jpg
The link above shows how new solar technologies convert more of the sun's energy into electricity. Some of the less efficient technologies on this chart are the ones that can be made cheaply and they are becoming cheaper - and eventually won't cost much more than plastic. At this link (near the bottom of the article ---link below--) is the projected cost of solar energy and regular electricity from the grid.
http://www.energyandcapital.com/articles/solar-energy-investments/620 Within ten years - will solar be our main source for new energy?Note: Solar energy stocks are very risky to invest in because a new winning technology could easily put competing technologies out of business.
Now, of course, where do you get your energy at night - or when it is cloudy? There are many technological breakthroughs on the way in energy storage. Batteries continue to improve. MIT announced last year an innovation in hydrolysis that makes it much cheaper to use solar electricity (or any electricity) to form hydrogen. And hydrogen is a clean, powerful fuel. Breakthroughs are also being made in chemically storing hydrogen by having it bind with solids, making it safer to store.
With all the bad news that I frequently write about - there is also some good news in the future - and we might enjoy it if the government and the American public don't crash the economy first through a selfish desire to get the benefits of more and more government programs without paying for them.
Republicans now also need to learn to cut waste and start eliminating programs.

They Do Not Mean Well
Part IIThank you, Brently Keen (01/07/2010 05:50 PM) for the affirmation.
One can call the left and Obama many things (e.g. dangerous, misguided, foolish, etc), but one thing they aren't is stupid. The utopian theories they tend to pursue are often hatched by professors of sociology in ivory towers (e.g. U. of Chicago, Columbia U., etc.) who don't have to suffer the real-world consequences of the theories they dream up and push on bright but impressionable minds who one day become policy-makers, even presidents (e.g. Saul Alinsky @ U. of Chicago, Obama @ Columbia).
Richard Cloward and Frances Fox Piven (again, Columbia professors, possibly some of the Marxist professors whom Obama claims in "Dreams From My Father" to have sought out) believed and taught that poverty is the cause of crime. Therefore, if our constitutional republic and capitalism would be overthrown and replaced by a system in which everyone is guaranteed an income from the government, then crime will be eliminated. This is a tenet of modern leftist dogma.
Of course, they are wrong. The left, being vehemently secular as it is, denies the true nature of man - that he is a fallen creature who must be taught to restrain his capacity or proclivities for wickedness. They blame "the system." They foolishly believe that if they right system would be established (e.g. egalite', fraternite', etc.), then people would be good and happy.
The Cloward-Piven Strategy of Orchestrated Crisis in a nutshell:
1. Enroll as many of the populace as possible in entitlement programs and on welfare rolls.
2. A critical mass of unsustainability is reached within the entitlement/welfare system, and it collapses.
3. The dependent class - tens of millions, perhaps hundreds of millions, of the them - become despondent, angry, frantic.
4. They conclude that our constitutional republic and free market system are failures, give up on them altogether, and rally to a new system, a new order - a revolution.
5. Full-blown socialism, communism - some Marxist regime - is a shoo-in.
More here: http://www.americanthinker.com/2008/09/barack_obama_and_the_strategy.html
Let's connect the dots:
* Did you know that the health care reform bill intends to subsidize (i.e. entitle) those who earn up to $96,000/yr for their health care? That includes the majority of the middle class.
* Did you know that Medicare is a $70-TRILLION unfunded liability? It's a house of cards ready to collapse in the not-too-distant future. Even so, Obamacare intends to be funded by half by stealing from Medicare.
Now you understand why they are in a hurry to pass Obamacare at all costs, even if it requires their last gasp of political breath. Get as many people as possible in the system in order to hasten its implosion. They are prepared to raise from its ashes a new order, a new government, a new system of economic equality on that glorious day.
In my book, anyone who plots to bring down the American system does not "mean well."
No, they do not mean well.

I just want to doubly emphasize what Brian Snow said...
During the primary election season, Gov Huckabee's clear and emphatic opposition to anything that would give away American Sovereignty was one of the things that sealed my support for him.
Today just about everything that the Obama administration and the Dems are doing is undermining America's sovereignty and strength. Everything from foreign apology tours, executive orders, to bailouts, takeovers and porkulus bills, to the proposed Cap and Trade legislation, to every political appointment, czar, earmark, kickback and bribe, to closing Gitmo, to Census taking, and the whole Health Care Reform fiasco, basically every foreign and domestic policy flows from strategies like the Cloward-Piven strategy and anti-American thinking in general.
It's not that the Dems mean well, but just get it wrong all the time, nor do I think there is any truly manchurian conspiracy, BUT THERE IS A REAL GLOBAL, PROGRESSIVE, SOCIALIST AGENDA. And it is designed to undermine and weaken America's greatest strengths and core values. Why do so called "community organizations" like ACORN even exist?
Because a great and free America stands strongly in the way of their anti-capitalist agenda, so they must corrupt and weaken everything that makes America great and strong like FAMILY, FAITH, & FREEDOM. They must oppose America's founding commitment to affirm life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Because America's respect for individual rights, freedom of speech and Religion, faith in God, the rule of law, and free-enterprise are all pillars of America's greatness and strength. And those pillars must be toppled if their communistic revolution is to succeed.
This administration, the Democrats in Washington, and their most ardent supporters not only admire the communist revolutionaries of yesterday, they idolized them and idealized their teachings. They obviously see themselves - as the next generation - the rightful heirs of the ongoing God-less, anti-American, global socialist revolution. THEY DO NOT 'MEAN WELL', they mean to overthrow the United States of America, and they are very close to doing so.

"Conservatives need to take Bob Bennett out at the Utah Republican Convention. It would be relatively low cost. The odds are the GOP would keep the seat. Any of the candidates from Cheryl Eager to Mike Lee would push the seat right.
Bob Bennett is the 8th most liberal Republican in the Senate from the most conservative state in the nation."

There are plenty of Republican members of Congress that need to be thrown out as well - the Huckabee termed "Faux-Cons"!

Sunny in California 01/06/2010 05:14 PM. Mike Huckabee has stated that if elections were about issues and policies, as they should be, he would be right in the middle of the Presidential action again. But he has identified two major obstacles that make another run problematic.
One is the need for huge amounts of money and organization. The media were ready to count him out early last time because he did not have the financial support from power blocs that other candidates enjoyed (e.g. Goldman Sachs was Obama's biggest contributor!). Someone needs to solve that problem. The Republican establishment could be that someone if they recognized he is the only Republican with a chance to beat Obama.
The second obstacle is what he has described as "people shooting from the trees". Anyone with access to the internet can write anything about him at any time, that is difficult to defend against, let alone be aware of. Were he to run again, he would undoubtedly be characterized as a southern fundamentalist reactionary. To combat that, I would like to see him expand his public persona in the coming year beyond that of an entertainer, to enhance his Presidential credentials.
Of course, if Mike does run, he will be light years ahead of where he started last time, in terms of name recognition and numbers of voters solidly behind him. If he were to win the nomination, he would need a Vice President who would balance the ticket geographically. Let's hope things develop so it can all happen. He remains America's best hope.

Hopefully, after the 2010 elections you will announce your intention to run for President! I can't wait!

The First Senator From the Tea Party?
8 page article.
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/10/magazine/10florida-t.html?pagewanted=6“For a lot of people,” Mike Huckabee told me, “this race has become a real classic encounter between whether the party is going to be a let’s-be-all-things-to-all-people party or whether we’re going to be a principled conservative party that espouses things out of genuine conviction.” Huckabee recently said that the instinct to “accommodate every view” would “kill the conservative movement.” He is supporting Rubio.
None of these challengers have been more celebrated than Rubio. “If there is a face for the future of the Republican Party, it is Marco Rubio,” Huckabee told me. “He is our Barack Obama but with substance.”I met, in the lingering crowd, a woman named Antoinette Parsons, who goes by Toni. She is a 78-year-old precinct representative from Bradenton who introduced herself as a “political activist and ballroom dancer.” She gave me her political card (she also has a card for ballroom dancing) and described Crist as “my dear friend for 15 years.”
“That is why it pains me to speak badly of Charlie,” she said. But she’s mad at him, for a lot of reasons — she mentions his last-minute endorsement of McCain in 2008. But mostly “the political winds are shifting, and this is not Charlie’s time.” She says she will vote for Rubio and thinks he will win. “People are energized,” she told me.I asked Crist what lesson he took from the New York race. “The Democrat won,” he said. “It is the first time in over 100 years that a Republican has not represented that district. Beyond that, I don’t know how much to take from it.”
Here is how Rubio answered the same question: “The only lesson,” he told me, “is that there is an active and organized conservative movement in America that is willing to take on the Republican establishment.”
Mike,
Please announce that you’ll run again ASAP. I know you admire Rubio, and so do I, but he is still young, and he lacks the governing experience that you have. I believe he would make an excellent Vice President; together, I know you would blow all of the other contenders out of the water!!! You could campaign together early, and you wouldn’t have to worry about Rubio saying something absurd!I know you’re comfortable doing your radio and TV show, and that the grueling campaign schedule is going to be a sacrifice for you and your family, but we ALL need you, America NEEDS you. Please say you’ll run!
I wish they would take a poll and ask how many Tea Partiers voted for Huckabee during the primaries...wouldn’t that be interesting?
Huckabee/Rubio 2012! By a landslide!!!

Blanche Lincoln is doing terrible in the polls.
The above link shows her up against each of four possible Republicans, and all four beat her badly.
She surely will retire rather than go through the drubbing she'd get in an election.
The poll also shows the healthcare bill is very unpopular in Arkansas.

Thank you, not only for this blog, but for your leadership, even in the face of sacrifice.
Of all the decisions that we have to make as American citizens, none are as important as the decisions of voting for the people who will be serving in office. Therefore, we had better make these well.
Even in the time of Julius Caesar it was said, "A soldier has a right to a competent command." Today, Americans have a right to a competent Congress. Our greatest challenge is to educate our fellow Americans as to who is competent.

To Mike Huckabee and Huckpac,
I know most of what is written on Huckpac is like preaching to the choir.
Mike, I would like to see you open the Huckabee show with the same comments you posted here. It needs to be heard in TV / Cable land.
I recently received an email (broadcast) from Senator Bill Nelson of Florida. It is acting like the Cap and Trade (Climate change bill) has already passed. He has yet to convince me there is Climate change affected by what man can fix. It appears he is giving concessions / opting out for a few votes and sign off on the bills.
It appears Congress will do anything to get the Democratic (progressive) agenda passed.
The following is 2 consecative paragragh from the Senators email:
You can’t pick up a newspaper, turn on the TV or radio, or go online without seeing something about climate change. I know all this buzz and chatter has a lot of Florida farmers worried—which is why I want to let you know what we’re doing to look out for agriculture as the debate on climate change policies continues.
I grew up on a small ranch, and I understand the importance of agriculture in Florida. That’s why I’m cosponsoring S. 2729, the Clean Energy Partnerships Act, which authorizes the Department of Agriculture to design a program to adequately compensate farmers, ranchers, and foresters affected by climate change policies.
------------------------------
The endThe bills are beginning to remind me if when the weather man gives the weather information. He says go to yesterdays forecast and subtract 2 degrees from that. Then when you go to yesterdays forecast you do the same kind of thing. It is never ending. That is what our laws have become. A conglomerated mess, that not even a Harvard lawyer can read! Then they add all these facy name to dress it up and make it more appealing.
America is waking up. I hope it is not too late. I am looking to join the Tea Party. What does that make me? I will be attending the Fair Tax meeting this Saturday.
Ron for the Fair Tax and government accountability and correcting everything else that is going wrong. There needs to be open debate not the deals behind closed doors. Americans are not stupid, may be a little ignorant from the brain washing the media gives us on a daily basis.

Huck - I have always felt that my vote didn't really matter, oh, I still vote but I spent 20 years in Kansas and the Republican always won and I have spent over 30 years in Arkansas, where the Demorat always wins (I know I left out a C). I don't even think that most of Congress means well. I think the Democrats are INTENTIONALLY trying to diminish America by creating an even greater economic crisis than we already have. The Obama Doctrine is:
"Undermine our allies, embolden our enemies and diminish America."
That is what this administration and the Democrat majority are trying to accomplish with every piece of legislation and every policy proposed or enacted in the last year.

Do you have $6 or $60 or other amount!! :) to end the “60th vote” in the U.S. Senate?
I didn’t realize there was a chance to end that “60th vote” syndrome so soon!
Tuesday, January 19, 2010 is a Special Election in Massachusetts for the late Senator Edward Kennedy’s open Senate seat.
The Republican Candidate is Massachusetts State Senator Scott Brown. From all accounts he looks like a very solid candidate. (check out wikipedia)
Please consider contributing $6 or $60 or $600 or ?? to his campaign to eliminate that 60th vote in the Senate.
His website is http://www.brownforussenate.com
I made a contribution and volunteered to make phone calls for his campaign. I think I’m going to go back and give more of my Christmas money. So much is at stake. Democrats are determined not to listen to the American people as shown by the Health Care bill.
It is worth everything to stop the monopoly.
Check out these very informative articles on the chances ….

Amazing coincidence!? ... According to the Real Clear Politics article "dems intend to bypass gop on health compromise" (Jan 4, 2010)... "Congress plans no formal sessions until Jan 19" ... which is the date of the Massachusetts Special Election for their open Senate seat. -

They don't mean well
Governor Huckabee, I agree with your post except this statement:
"I know they mean well..."
I am fully convinced that they don't mean well, and understanding when the Democrats at the top intend to do makes all the difference.
Their objective is to get a huge swath (majority?) of the population dependent upon the welfare state. These massive and unsustainable new entitlement programs are being set up intentionally to implode (e.g. robbing from Medicare to fund Obamacare) because they expect that when the house of cards falls, massive civil unrest and the overthrow of our constitutional republic and free-market system will result. This is their ultimate goal, and it's why the Democrats at the top are hell-bent on passing Obamacare at all costs, with little regard for the details. The point is to bring down the sytem, man.
We're being governed by a regime that operates under cover of darkness and passes trojan-horse legislation in pursuit of the Left's ideal of "social justice" and the President's "fundamental transformation of America."
This strategy was outlined by Cloward and Piven of Columbia University back in 1966, and the powers that be appear to be pursuing it now with reckless abandon.
