Action Alert

The Senate may vote on Tuesday on the Nelson Amendment, which seeks to ensure that no federal funds can be used for abortion.  Senator Nelson has patterned his amendment after the Stupak Amendment that was adopted by the House of Representatives.  It is not too late to contact your Senator, or any Senator and tell them that you want them to vote yes for Senator Nelson's amendment.  Now is the time to send a message to the Senators.  America is watching and will remember on election day those who do not support the sanctity of life.  Here is the link to the telephone numbers of each United States Senator.  Call now, before they vote.

    DEAR SENATOR McCONNELL
    RE: HEALTH CARE ABOMINATION BILL

I faxed the following letter to Senator McConnell early this morning. Please contact senators to express your sentiments here: http://senate.gov/ Time is running out.
    ---------------

    December 10, 2009

    The Honorable Mitch McConnell
    United States Senate
    361-A Russell Senate Office Building
    Washington, DC 20510

    Dear Senator McConnell,

This life-long conservative Republican thanks you for serving as the Senate Minority Leader and as the leader of the opposition to the Left’s assault on America’s constitutional foundations brought to the Senate.

I pray that you and your Republican colleagues will be strengthened and emboldened to fight as warrior-patriots against the tyranny called “Health Care Reform” that may be only days away from “fundamentally transforming the United States of America” into our Founding Fathers’ worst nightmare.

Frankly, I do not understand your present strategy of offering a train of amendments which may inadvertently serve to buy time for Senator Reid to cobble together sixty votes. Moreover, some of these amendments may very well serve as hedging or “CYA” opportunities for fence-sitting Democrats, enabling them to side with their caucus in the end. Surely you know that the present bill is unsalvageable.

It seems to me that the Republicans must either effect a vote on cloture when they are sure that the Democrats do not have sixty votes, or they must use every tactic at their disposal to postpone the cloture vote until after Christmas so that senators may get a dose of reality from their constituents when they return home for the recess.

Over the next few days, I hope that you, your Republican colleagues, and all liberty-minded Senators will fight – without regard to your political fortunes – using every tool available to save the Republic for our children and grandchildren. Please launch a blitzkrieg PR campaign to stir patriots everywhere to rise up once more with a voice of unmistakable rebuke toward those who would deceive their countrymen into exchanging their birthright for a bowl of stew.

May this question serve as your rallying cry: What about Liberty?

    Sincerely,

    Brian Snow

Although this result was expected, it is nonetheless an important point in the health-care saga. Hopefully this move by the Democrats will make the moral issues at stake clearer. Many social conservatives with only secondary interest in economic and constitutional issues will now be unable to support the bill.

As one of the small percentage of Americans this "reform" package might actually benefit, I can only say that, for the sake of the country, today's events will be tragic if the bill passes, but ironically beneficial if they result in its defeat.

    DEAR SENATOR LINCOLN

    December 8, 2009

    The Honorable Blanche Lincoln
    United States Senate
    355 Dirksen Senate Building
    Washington, DC 20510-0404

    Dear Senator Lincoln:

I am sorely disappointed to hear that you could not support the Nelson-Hatch Amendment today.

Do you feel that the federal government should compel me to pay for other people’s abortions and thereby cause me to be complicit in the elective and intentional taking of innocent human life?

My sincere conscience exclaims that the unborn are human persons protected by the Fifth Amendment, not to “…be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law.”

A CNN poll in November found American adults are against “using public funds for abortions when the woman cannot afford it” by a 61-37 percent margin.

By voting to “table” the Nelson-Hatch Amendment, you are helping to steamroll the consciences of an overwhelming majority of Americans. You are on the wrong side.

I believe this occasion calls for a donation to Gilbert Baker’s campaign for U.S. Senate and to Huck PAC. I may not live in Arkansas currently, but my money speaks where I send it.

    Sincerely,

    Brian Snow

The Nelson amendment lost, 54-45. It needed 60 to win.

There's some encouragement to be found in the vote. The majority of the senate voted for it, including 9 democrats. This seems to be relective of a general pro-life ascendeny in the country.

One democratic Arkansas senator voted for it, Pryor, but Lincoln did not.

Now it's going to be interesting to see how this vote effects the final vote on the bill. Nelson (a democrat from Nebraska) had said he'd vote againt the final bill if the amendment failed. If he does vote against it, the democrats have to then get a Republican to vote with them. Snowe (R -Maine) may do that but she seems to be leaning against it today.

It's possible that because the abortion amendment failed, the entire bill then will fail.

Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark) may well be the key vote. Arkansas voters need to make their wishes known to her.

Blanche Lincoln -- democratic senator from Arkansas, who is up for reelection in 2010 -- is the key vote.

Here is a December 3 poll showing her losing to all four potential Republican challengers.

    As the poll says:
"The really bad news for Lincoln is that 56% of Arkansas voters Strongly Oppose the congressional health care plan. Just 18% Strongly Favor it."

People living in Arkansas need to focus on making Blanche Lincoln responsive to the will of the voters.

What if this amendment passes? In my opinion this would make passage of the whole healthcare legislation more palatable to many congressmen to the extent that they would vote, "For" it.

Therefore, I will not encourage any of them to vote for the initial "abortion" amendment.

Thanks for the heads up and numbers. I have sent homemade post cards and have called at least 15 Senators. Thank you Gov. Huckabee for a great show last Sat. and especially for having Dennis Rodman on.

    I love you!!
