Danger Ahead

Most of the world is focused on events occurring on a daily basis in Iran. While that is certainly understandable, there is another dangerous situation going on that we all must pay attention to. North Korea presents a real threat to the security of the world.

Kim Jong-il, the present leader of North Korea is clearly mentally unbalanced. He heads a secretive, communist regime which tolerates no dissent. North Korea’s economy is in shambles. The country has been hit by natural disasters, poor planning and a failure to modernize. Aid agencies have estimated that up to two million people have died in North Korea since the mid 1990s because of severe food shortages.

In 2002, the tyrannical Kim-Jong-il, added to the misery of his people by announcing that he had decided to reactivate a nuclear reactor and to expel international inspectors. The United Nations has made feeble and weak attempts to deal with the continuing threat of North Korea to become a nuclear power. As the United Nations spends time drafting a really strong letter in its traditionally meaningless and misguided dysfunction, the burden remains on the United States and China to find a way to contain the growing threat posed by North Korea.

North Korea has nothing to lose. Vice President Biden said that President Obama would be tested by foreign leaders within six months of becoming President. It hasn’t taken that long. It’s a dangerous situation to have a nation such as North Korea hold the capacity to launch a nuclear weapon. It’s equally dangerous when that country is led by a maniacal dictator, who is accountable to no one, even his own people. When both are present it becomes a crisis.

Today the United States Navy is tracking a North Korean ship, believed to be carrying dangerous nuclear materials. Unfortunately, our Navy is being restricted from taking any action by the inept United Nations, which has adopted language requiring any Government wishing to inspect a cargo, to ask permission to do so. The UN resolution says that vessels suspected of breaking the embargo must undergo inspection, either on the high seas or at port. But any inspection depends on the cooperation of a ship’s captain.

How the Obama Administration handles this situation will tell the American people a lot about what we can expect from the President in dealing with foreign crisis. We can only hope that while President Obama is busy running car companies and banks he doesn’t forget that the world is a very dangerous place, especially when an unbalanced dictator is launching missiles and setting off underground nuclear tests just because he wants to.

Is there a source somewhere for a group/batch email of all of congress? I'm talking about 100s of addresses ready to cut and paste into our TO field in email, so we can send out one email to everyone at once? Do you know how many people would get the word out if they didn't have to spend hours and hours sending the same message to individuals?? Would be a tremendous resource to have!

    Keep up the good work!

    Dear Dispossed Americans;

Iran is not Americas enemy quite the opposite.Iranians are very religious the majority of them worshop ALLAH daily their supreme being.North Korea is calling for more finical aid or benefits from China and America since it is a very poor communist country.America has two wars now based on a lie.We have a naitonal debt of nearly 12 trillion thats a debt for every living American of $40,000.00 that excludes the 20 million illegals in our country. Its time Americans wake up and take our country back ,dial out the T.V. war mongers. No one will come to rescue America its up to us. We must put America FIRST right now.A good start is remove the crooks from federal banking and government.

With this administrations continued refusal to push investment for the use the natural resources at home to become energy independent, I am wondering how long it will be before China, Russia or N. Korea decide to take them from us.

    Dear Mike Huckabee,
North Korea is a communist country very poor and needing money. They are willing to sell their nuclear technology to anyone.Iran of course is willing to buy their product. This fact of course is not good for Israel,Since Mohammid Ahmadijnad (Iran president)remarked Israel should be wiped from the face of the earth. All Arabs resentment and hate Israel killing the Palestines and stealing their land and America`s support of Israel a Marxist state in fact.Well thats the real problem and we have two wars now for Israel, and you want another. The Iranian president remarked a quote fron the Talmud (Jewish bible)it states more than once "Christians should be wiped from the face of the earth if they betray Iarael three times". We have many urgent problems in America that need our attention now.

This is very dangrous for us. As long as North Korea has those nukes, they will be a danger to every one in the world. Let us pray to God for His help and mercy. I am optimistic that we will prevail our challenge against North Korea with God's help.

We never miss your TV show it is truly a clear voice and a breath of fresh air. It has ocurred to me that what is going on in Iran can be a historic moment for the entire world. I think that someone of trust and political prominence should call for a national day of prayer for the freedom of the Iranian people. You are perfect for such a national call to all Americans of faith. Please give this idea your consideration. James and Jane Dixon Richmond Va

(ACORN) With abc and the rest of the obama worshiping media, What can be done? What can be done??? Will America survive until 2010? When I get any news of obama's actions, I walk away feeling depressed, very angry and my spirit brutalized. It effects my family life, my faith, and my marriage negatively. Can anyone save us from an obamanation?

I don't believe North Korea is just rattling sabers. I believe they would respond in a nuclear fashion, because they are confident the response they will get from the Obama Administration is alot of tough words, and no action. President Obama has made it clear in his responses to Israel and her enemies that his desire is to get peace at *ANY* cost, whether that be Japan, South Korea, Tiawan, Israel, Iraq, Iran or all of the above. If that means handing over Israel to her enemies, he will do it, watch and see. I doubt we will see any strength shown in foreign matters because all the administration's energy is being spent on picking apart our country from the inside. Social matters (gov't ownership in business to healthcare) is the state of the day in the US, not true democracy, nor is the United States a republic anymore, the current administration and the puppets in congress are making sure of that.

    Regarding Carter
During the mid 70's I worked in a shipyard on the Gulf Coast. We were building Destroyer Escorts (Spruance Class) and helicopter/amphibious assault ships with the then latest Aegis Missile systems on board. When I first started there I felt good that we were finally updating our naval fleet. I was later shocked to learn that the ships we were building were to be sold to IRAN.
The Shaw was our "pet puppy" back then. When will we realize our mistakes in lavishly building up what almost always become our future enemies. I believe the only country in that region we can trust is Israel. And Obama hasn't treated them with as much respect as some of her enemies.
Only after the taking of the hostages did Carter finally cancel future sales to Iran.

North Korea: Clear & Present Danger
    http://street-called-straight.blogspot.com/2009/06/north-korea-clear-present-danger.html

Former (and hopefully future) Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee has hit it on the head again with his recent comments about the clear and present danger presented by North Korea.
I have long been saying that North Korea-not Iran or iraq- posed the greatest danger to US security and indeed the continuance of the USA as a superpower.
They have long been at the apex of the axis of evil, and with the Second Coming of Jimmy Carter in the oval office, the danger presented by North Korea should now be clear to one and all.North Korea has nuclear weapons. Iran does not... yet...
If one watches the behaviour of not only North Korea, but also the People's Republic of China, it is obvious that these countries have weighed President Obama in the balance and has been found wanting.
North Korea is now a nuclear power. They apparently don't have the means to deliver a warhead accurately to a major continental US city, nor do they have the number of warheads required to make an attack on the US anything more than a suicide bombing, however, there is one strategy i see playing out that the mainstream media is ignring to their-and our-peril: The North Koreans may well have the means to deliver an Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) attack. The scenario would entail a nuclear warhead the size of the one that was dropped on Hiroshima be detonated 180 miles or 300 km above ground. The explosion would send out an electromagnetic pulse which would effectively knock out all electricicty and communications within a given radius.
    "
According to an internet primer published by the Federation of American Scientists[20]

A high-altitude nuclear detonation produces an immediate flux of gamma rays from the nuclear reactions within the device. These photons in turn produce high energy free electrons by Compton scattering at altitudes between (roughly) 20 and 40 km. These electrons are then trapped in the Earth's magnetic field, giving rise to an oscillating electric current. This current is asymmetric in general and gives rise to a rapidly rising radiated electromagnetic field called an electromagnetic pulse (EMP). Because the electrons are trapped essentially simultaneously, a very large electromagnetic source radiates coherently.
The pulse can easily span continent-sized areas, and this radiation can affect systems on land, sea, and air. The first recorded EMP incident accompanied a high-altitude nuclear test over the South Pacific and resulted in power system failures as far away as Hawaii. A large device detonated at 400–500 km (250 to 312 miles) over Kansas would affect all of the continental U.S. The signal from such an event extends to the visual horizon as seen from the burst point.
Since we doubt that, from a land launch in North Korea the rogue republic could hit the continental US, the likelihood that they would score a hit above Kansas , thus paralyzing the entire US, they could very effectively blow one up just east of Hawaii, and take out the west coast, and possibly some of the control centres in the western states that control the US nuclear arsenal.
The goal of North Korea has always been, as taught by Kim Il-Sung's "Juche" philosophy, is to unite all of Korea, and make sure that no foreign ever dominates them again. So what if the North Koreans launch another missile and detonate it over the Pacific, east of Japan so as to knock out Japan's power and communications, as well as that of South Korea and Taiwan?
North Korea has the fourth largest standing army in the world, more than twice as many men unde arms than South korea has. Mreover, it is a very low-tech fighting force, while South Korea, with its American re-inforcements are high tech, and thus reliant on weapons whose effectiveness would be limited by the results of an EMP blast.
This would allow North Korea to take the South very quickly.
All this begs the question as to why China continues to allow (and indeed protect) a regime such as this on its border? What can they possibly gain?
The Chinese government has also noticed the resemblance between the community organizer from Chicago and the peanut farmer from Georgia, and sees an opportunity to chane the Americans right out of east Asia and established its own hegemony.
Whether the North Koreans act or not, the situation of the freedom-loving Taiwanese is hanging precariously in the balance. The Chinese are trying to determine once and for all whether the Obama administration would be willing or able to defend Taiwan, and under what conditions. The Taiwanese are watching as well, and if they determine that the US will not honour its defense commitments, they may well accept terms from China, whereby the 'renegade province' will return to the fold, under a one country two systems arrangement such as Hong Kong now lives under. China is following tupical Sun Tzu, in that they are claiming the higher ground, using their spies well, and may be able to achieve their foreign policy goals without needlessly expending soldiers. (see Sun Tzu's "the Art of War").
While China would not likely want to "take over" Korea or Japan, by taking Taiwan, and chasing the US out of the east, they establish hegemony in the region much as in the glory days of past dynasties of the "Middle Kingdom" which was at the centre of a large web of tributary states in the region. China would thus elipse the US as the world's dominant military and economic power.
How much time remains to correct the errors that led us to this state of affairs is in question.
This cannot wait until 2010. The american PEOPLE must bring to bear massive pressure on their elected representatives and let them know that they need to make some policy changes and force Obama to grow a backbone.
Japan must be informed that they should re-arm. While many veterans of World War II might find this idea alarming, it is far less so than losing all influence in the area. Japan must remain an ally, but must have the means to deal with danger in the region without depending on the USA, which is spread out too far and wide. A strong Japan will counterbalance a strong China.
The US must make it clear that they will honour their commitment to Taiwan. Taiwan too, must be encouraged to take on more of its own defense at the same time.
If China sees that they have nothing to gain by allowing Kim Jong-il and his junta in power, they will move to bring that regime into line, in a manner that saves face. Make no mistake about it, North and South Korea will not be reunited at any time in the near future, since China, historically likes to have buffer-tributary states on its immediate borders. At the end of the day, we must learn from history the fact that Theodore Roosevelt was correct when he said "walk softly, but carry a big stick". The thug regimes of the world respect two things: Strength and resolve, and when the west puts the likes of Neville Chmaberlain, Jimmy Carter, Brack Obama and Gordon Brown in power, the dictators know that their time to act has come. Love peace? Prepare for war. Hopefully you will never have to fight it.

I agree with Trucker Randy, lets board the ship and inspect the cargo on it.

Just about everything North Korea says they are going to do to ruffle feathers, they do. All except keeping their word when we give a helping hand.

This is not like the case of Iraq, where Saddam Huissien appeared to see how far he could push the United States. The people / media became divided on what the outcome should have been.

With North Korea we know they have nuclear weapons and the means to deliver them.

It would be interesting to know how much further in debt the United States has gone, supporting the United Nations. It appears to me the United Nations sends their police force to countries, because that is what they are expected to do. When conditions get to rough, they depend on more help from the United States. When the United States steps in to assist, armies from other countries withdrawl where mostly American blood and resources are then used. What has happened to the United Nations? Now it appears the United Nations will get even more resources from the United States via Cap and Trade and Global Warming initiatives. The United Nations has a short leash on the United States.

What has the United Nations done to inforce UN sanctions and UN resolutions against North Korea? If the United Nations had the same leash on the United States in the early sixties as it does now, Cuba would have gotten nuclear weapons and missles from Russia.

Perhaps we should recruit some Pirates from Somalia to board the North Korean ship, then the United Nations wouldn't lift a brow.

    Captain Obvious and Jill--

Yes, it is good to know that God is in control, and sometimes we think that God hasn't answered our prayers when he doesn't answer in the way we thought he would. That's because we don't see the whole picture of what is ahead as only He can see these things, and will answer in a way we could never imagine.

Also, remember the times we discussed Habakkuk: 17 and 18? Yes these are troublesome times, and like many others have previously stated, we do need a leader who will put the needs of the people before himself, but when that does not happen, it is good to recall the words of the song, He's Got the Whole World in his Hands."

Please read our history books,...especially the time period of President Carter's administration. Please note his foreign policy decisions and his lack to take on Iran.

    444 days,...remember?

    Forget the United Nations!!!

Board that North Korean ship,...inspect their cargo, and if nuclear materials are found,... secure it's soldiers, and bring the ship's contents to a nuclear waste facility,...take pictures of it before destroying the materials!!!

Hold their soldiers, until we get satisfaction from North Korea regarding their nuclear program.

If they and the U.N. don't like it, I say "Too Dam Bad",...we are
going to take charge and make something good come out of this very bad situation!!!

    To Mike Huckabee,

I am really glad to see and read all the comments made to this posting concerning the threats from North Korea. I do hope we take this guy serious. Like someone commented, be ready for anything, remember 9/11. There is chatter about 7/4/2009.

There are groups that want to see us defeated and force us to justify every move we make. We can't even take out the pirates off of Somalia.

Are we the only country that is concerned about this ship, that should definitely be inspected? What does it take to know we are threatened?
Was it the USS Pluebo the North Koreans took from international waters?

It is unbelievable all the bills that are swamping Congress and all Congress has to do is get them to President Obama's desk so he can sign them. How many will Speaker Pelosi try to ram through before Congress recesses prior to 4 July? I am sorry Congress prefers to appear negligent rather than actually doing the job they were elected to do.

    Sir,
Everyone forgets one thing in all this, We are a Nation at War! The hate from the World has been there awhile. Two wars being fought, our infrastructure is constantly being electronicly invaded, our economy is being attacked from inside and out, we worry about our car co.'s failing, when they should be making tank factories out of them. Nk and Iran on the road to being able to kill thousands of Americans with just ONE bomb launched from inside their protected cities. If this President does not board the NK ship, I would consider him as part of the problem. NK has already gotten rid of the truce, that means its on, they havent attacked SK, we are the target. We have become the "Paper Tiger" they say we are. UN sanctions have hampered us for years, they are useless. Why track the ship if you already know that they will not let us board? Ask permission, if they say no, do it anyway, lets see whats on it, if you dont have anything that your not supposed to, then good, Have a nice day. Its the security of America's children on the line here. If you fight a war and do not use all your resources (factories, population, natural resources, money/gold)to end that war, its a crime. Gear up the ammunition factories, other war making businesses and watch the economy grow. Just like 9/11 they are at war with us, but the admistration will not acknowledge it, Thanks

Yet, in the Twitter post from the president, all he is interested in is that you tune in to ABC tonight to see him in his town hall meeting on health care. I don't think he gets it! Thank you for your concern in this matter.

You know darn well that Obama isn't going to do anything about North Korea. He's a Wus, plain and simple. He couldn't even support those seeking freedom in Iran. He's nothing but a great big Wus!

    As always,
I caught this PJTV video this morning--resonates with Governor Huckabee's blog.

I am worried that this Adminstration is going to go weak on N Korea and try to stay within the confines of what the UN has said which basically cuts off our sovergnity. I hope and pray that N Korea dosn't lob a missile at Hawaii, because then, if we don't react as a country, we are going to look even weaker and we can't have that. As it is, PBObama is voting present on most of these national security issues. That isn't going to work. Thanks for your program on Fox and for the blog. I voted for you last year.

Governor, as usual your assessment of a crisis is right on target. What a shame that we cannot have a leader such as yourself right now. We can only hope that things will not spiral too far out of control until we can elect you in 2012!

By the way, I hope that people are paying attention to two important votes coming up on Friday. In the Senate - a possible vote on Card Check; and in the house - a possible vote on Cap and Tax (Trade). Call your representatives immediately and voice your opposition to both. If you are uninformed, start researching and then call! We cannot allow these things to slip under the radar (while we are being distracted by the White House on the health care debate). Spread the word!

The only person who can keep up with all the news in our crazy world today is the Internet. The question which should be important in America is the Character which we are made of and who we can be as one nation protecting our consititutional rights & liberties. Are we willing to protect them like the people of Iran are so willing to gain such rights? Don Mucheck- Ky

I can only hope and pray that this administration will lead America and not worry about what Europe or Asia think. We are at a crossroad in world history, if you dont agree read your bible. God told us this was going to happen and we still are not ready. I love my country and more importantly my God. God bless this great land, and pray for America and our leaders. Thank you to all of our soldiers past and present.

    Dear Govenor Huckabee,
Thank you very much for keeping youre eye on things. You would be making a much better Pres. Obama does not have the experience of handling these things the only thing he has done in the Senate was vote Present. You cant vote Present when youre President. he doesn't realize that. I am tired of being spoken to out of bothsides of the mouth which he does all the time. You can't have it both ways BO.

    Dear Huck,
I think we should let it be known that we ( American Forces ) intend to hold that N.K. ship from reaching any port. we will simply block it indefinately. And while it sits out in the ocean, we should begin to fortify Japan, with a fleet of fighter jets fully armed for war. And we should also begin to arm Japan with Nuclear Weapons.
And send some more Battle ships into the area Maybe a couple of carriers and a couple of Nuclear Subs. And wait for China to ask to talk to us. I would like to seriously know what stratigy you might use yourself, if you were Commander in Chief. You can respond to this @ my Blog if you would prefer to re-comment.
