Well said, Governor. Though the balance of the court may not change with Sotomayor's nomination to the Supreme Court (a liberal replaces a liberal), the shift of the judicial system will be to "feelings-based" judgment, not based on the law itself. Our Supreme Court needs to have unbiased justices, or its rulings will be a sham. Please, everyone, contact your Senators and firmly tell them we want unbiased judges who will uphold the Constitution and not make law or judge arbitrarily. Remind them of the importance of their strong opposition to a Judge who has had 60 of her rulings overturned by a higher court. A Supreme Court Justice holds a lifetime position of the utmost importance.

I have a lot of questions concerning Pres. Obama's pick for Supreme Court Justice.
I also do not like her saying that wise and experienced Latino women are better and more qualified at making better decisions than a white male. Definitely racist, sexist and just dumb in my opinion. Let us move on past this race issue .... but many still and forever want to play the part of the victim. Most all whites who were discriminatory toward other races are dead and gone. Consequently there are many who are now experiencing 'reverse discrimination' .... shame on Sotomayor for voting against the firefighters who studied, prepared and received the top scores and had their promotions denied because of a lack of minorities who did not do the same.
I would be pleasantly surprised if Sotomayor turns out to be pro-life but since Pres. Obama is not and is for a women's right to choose and has already passed laws for us taxpayers to fund overseas abortions and for embryonic stem cell research etc ..... I cannot believe he would bring in a contradiction to that to the supreme court.
Let us vote for the best candidates and I don't care what color or race they are. I have certain standards for my choice. There is an array of bright, qualified, Christian conservative candidates in all races.Donor No. R23777

I am very disappointed with Obama's choice in this appointment. I hope people are paying close attention to just what type of man they have elected to office. If they ARE, I am convinced he will NOT win re-election. I agree with the other poster on here that I love, love, love Governor Huckabee and pray he will be our next president...2012!

Sonia Sotomeyer may turn out to be a pro life vote on the Supreme Court. She is Catholic and most Catholics are pro life. She has no record of ruling against life issues, and in the few cases she has ruled on that effect the issue in a small way, she has decided on the side of those who are against abortion.
The White House has said they didn't ask her about he views on Roe, and she has never given her view on it in any public forum or in any of her writings.
Also, several pro abortion groups have said they're worried about her.
This isn't a whole lot for anti-abortion people to hang their hats on, but it is at least something.
She also may be a conservative vote on the issues of freedom of religious expression.
On some other issues, she almost certainly is liberal, but on some of the key Values issues, she may turn out to be conservative.
Overall, it's certainly better than most people were expecting from Obama.

I will just say that I am not happy with his choice. But, that's what happens when people don't know who, or what they are voting for. Of course, sometimes they do realize what and who they are voting for. In that case, it's very scary.

The U.S. economy's in Recession, annual federal budget deficit worst ever, Iran & North Korea firing missiles & on the virge of nuclear proliferation, Afghanistan still posing problems, Pakistani government losing ground to the re-emergent militant Taliban, Israel considering a strike on Iran nuclear facilities, huge long-term U.S. energy problems, Medicare costs climbing, Social Security collapsing sooner (2037 for now...)..............
******************
So where's the President of the United States right now????Answer: Fundraising for democratic politicians in Beverly Hills, California.
If that wasn't bad enough, all his rockstar traveling is running up a huge tab paid for by the American taxpayer. Bush primarily did fundraising when he was in the area for another reason..... if he was in NYC for a UN conference he'd stop by a RNC fundraiser. Clinton did the same.
But to go so far as to exclusively fly out to California for million-dollar fundraisers is ridiculous and an insult to the American people who are struggling right now to find stable work to pay the bills and put food on the table. Period.
The number of HUGE URGENT ISSUES we face today are unparalleled & demand IMMEDIATE attention, not acting like time is not of the essence. It will be this lacidasical attitude that will lead to our ruin in not taking huge looming problems seriously.
Here's my take on Obama's Supreme Court pick:While anyone overcoming adversity is inspirational, we must formulate opinions by someone's actions, held positions, and in their own words:
"I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life," said Judge Sotomayor. Either a subtle sexist & racist comment or best case poorly worded & offensive, which a law professional should know better even when speaking at Berkeley. A video surfaced of Judge Sotomayor asserting in 2005 that a "court of appeals is where policy is made." She then immediately adds: “And I know--I know this is on tape, and I should never say that because we don't make law. I know. OK I know. I’m not promoting it. I’m not advocating it. I’m--you know."
We absolutely want to cheer on the individual who triumphed over his or her hardships to the top, but please for the Supreme Court someone whose core wants to interpret not dictate law/policy. -

She was appointed by a Conservative Republican President of the United States of America. She was elevated by a Conservative Democrat President of the United States of America. If you oppose this, you oppose Jesus who said: Love everyone, even if they oppose you. What you are afraid of is that GOD may NOT be in control? Pray only: If it's your will...go for it!

Love, love, love, love you Future Mr. President, Governor Huckabee! Thank you for continuing your bravery at probably the most critically important time in our nation's history. Yes, when we gained our independence from England with our blood at God's direction, it certainly seemed like the most important victory, but Benjamin Franklin said it wouldn't be enough. He said it would be for future generations to make sure the constitution was continually defended, at all costs. For many years we have taken this for granted and look what happened. Put me on the front lines.

Here are some things that I really truly do not understand about the Democratic Party.
If you listen to the people in UK, their government has done everything that our government is doing to us….and it did not work! They have spent and spent and spent, even money that they didn’t have. Their manufacturing has been crushed by regulations, etc and it has not worked!
Why would we want to repeat this in America?
Daniel Hannan, a British politician and Member of the European Parliament, representing South East England for the Conservative Party made a comment about who has been affected the most by this “Change”. According to Daniel, Guess who has been the most affected….the poor! Yes, the “little guy”. It is my understanding that almost none of the Labor party is going to vote for Gordon Brown to be re-elected.
I too, get very confused when the Democrats say that they are for the “little guy” not the elite. Especially when there are quite a lot of elites in democrat party (New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg; George Soros; Peter G. Peterson, co-founded the Blackstone Group; former hedge fund manager Julian H. Robertson, Jr.; former Cisco Systems Chairman John Morgridge and his wife, Tashia; real estate speculator Eli Broad, and his wife, Edythe; David Rockefeller's son, David Rockefeller, Jr.; Tom Turner, Warren Buffett and, and Oprah Winfrey). And to think the Republican Party was thought to be the party of Big Money?
As a matter of fact, all of these “elites” decides to meet (in secret), to determine what the world problems. Guess what they decided was the most important ...Overpopulation! What does this mean for us, you know, for the little guy? This begs two questions, why did this meeting need to be in secret and why do they want to make a decision without input from anyone who doesn’t have Big Money?

PJ Media had a blog yesterday pointing out how the news cycle keeps us focused on today's outrages allows what happened last week to fade into safe oblivion.
I STILL want to see Nancy Pelosi resign. She has demonstrated her lack of integrity in the clearest way possible. "Fancy Nancy" is slipping down to the "old news" section.
Do NOT let her slither away
in the light of another new day
There is outrage a plenty to claim
our attention, and plenty to blame.
Keep taking the media to task
It's our right and our duty to ask
for the truth, for responsible leaders,
Take away all their viewers and readers.
She hopes for the uproar to pass
as the spotlight is turning its glass.
Keep her feet to the fire,
and cast out the liar.
If it's all up to you and to me,
Let's party--please pour me some tea. -

Gov. Huckabee,
It's not surprising at all; Obama wants a judge who will exercise "empathy" because that's what Obama wants. He found it in Sotomayor.
I don't understand how people would value ones upbringing more than their legal qualifications? However, Obama's blindsided to the fact that empathy is how one should approach interpreting the law, while I'm not surprised by his choice, I'm not eager to see what kinds of choices they will make.

Lately, we hear a lot about empathy to the "little guy." This is something the dems have claimed for years. So far, I have not seen any evidence of their empathy toward anyone, and I'm not real sure what is meant by "the little guy."
When we think about recent results of these elections and appointees, it is comforting to know that God is in control because if he wasn't, our country would be in a lot of trouble.

How about some tolerance? This isn't a bad person. Perhaps she's more liberal than some here would like. But, she is clearly fit to serve. This is President Obama's decision. Politically speaking, it's time to be Americans first, partisans second. The court works because there are different views with different people.

Aaron has the right message:
In 2 Chronicles 7:14 God says He will turn and heal our land if we humble ourselves, repent, and pray. More than ever before we need to see that day!And more than ever we need to pray. Pray for truth to be brought to light, pray for people to see their need for God, pray for people to have their eyes opened, pray that our land will repent and humble ourselves.
After all…..The prayer of a righteous man avails much! James 5:16.

Here's the quote from that infamous speech given by the latest nominee to the Supreme Court:"I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experience would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life."
A wise Latina woman truly does have a lot to offer in many contexts; as a friend and as a citizen. I think our culture needs to absorb the Latino love for family--Heck, I think our language needs a second person familiar form like Spanish has. The language reveals a lot about the culture, and in many ways I've fallen in love with both.
But to suggest that a Latina woman would make a better judge than a white male is RACIST. BLATANTLY EGREGIOUSLY RACIST. What white male would DARE make a statement like that in the other direction.
Anybody remember the Ricci case? Where Judge Sotomayor determined it was okay to deny promotion to qualified firefighters based on race? There were not enough minority applicants in the court's opinion, so the qualifying candidates were tossed out.
I have read accounts of Sonia Sotomayor's conduct that rang a bell--having lived for decades with a type 1 diabetic under good control, the accounts of her angry emotional outbursts and hostility to lawyers who disagree with her sound like people I have observed in insulin reaction--also known as low blood sugar.
I hate to disagree with the ADA, whose work for people suffering from diabetes is very worthwhile, but even "healthy" diabetics under good control do occasionally have insulin reactions, and impaired judgement is one common symptom. So is hostility and anger. It is quite involuntary, but it's kinda like an angry intoxication. (Others experienced with diabetes please confirm or correct--I feel MEAN bringing this up, but it's a valid concern.
My heart goes out to the little girl who wanted to be a judge--but it would be best not to give her a lifetime seat on the Supreme Court.

Wow! Mike posted today and the flood gates opened. Lots of first time bloggers. Some from the left coming on board. Okay. We welcome civil discussion.
Heath Upton, I don't think you are new, but you are right on with your
statement that; "People voted with open hearts and empty minds and are now being rewarded in kind."
Another blogger said something about the Governor returning from silliness back to a more noble position. Well, we need a little silliness to go along with this gloom and doom. I do not know what the gentleman was referring to unless it was our poetry.
But life goes on and the Bible is full of: "this too shall pass moments." Prayer is required to keep connected to the real power.
But only faith with action will bring about a return of our freedom.
So let's have double numbers show up at the TEA Parties on July 4th and everyone that can send HuckPac at least $100 on this day, do so! Let's show President Obama and his fellow travelers we mean business!
Congress watch for your pink slips!

In the world God is the Highest Authority. That is true for ALL..
But as far as temporal things go...
I believe the fiery preachers of the time of our revolution would be crystal clear on this if they were here today:
When this country was founded,"Rex Lex" became
"Lex Rex"
and our Constitution became the authority that limits the power of the government which is made up of our (PUBLIC)SERVANTS.We can still "pray for them", but in this Constitutional Republic, the Constitution would be the AUTHORITY as far as any matters of government go.
But, again, lest any misunderstand what I say: All this is still under the authority of God. -
Warrington, Karl

I believe it is a fallacy to believe that any judge conservative or liberal can be purely objective and therefore orthodox when it comes to interpreting the constitution. It amazes me that conservatives believe that the conservative perspective equals an orthodox interpretation of the Constitution. The understanding that liberal judges are activist and conservative judge are true interpreters of the constitution sounds extremely arrogant. For me as a moderate the truth lies somewhere in the middle. To a liberal and conservative, both believe that their interpretation of, the often intentionally vague, 200 plus year old language is the correct interpretation when really their opinion is simply that an opinion not a perfect/almost divinely sanctioned interpretation. Maybe the swing vote (i.e. Kennedy, O'Connor)is the closest thing to a true effort to get to the original intent of the author's of the constitution. I am usually in favor of the Supreme Court candidate who is honest about the very real possibility that our philosophical perspective will probably, at times, color our opinions.

I'm not surprised about this at all. What makes anybody think that Obama will start doing the right thing now? This is ridiculous and further proves that Obama cannot be trusted (as if we needed any more evidence).

Gov. Huckabee,
Just from the one day of news coverage about Ms. Sotomayor, this disturbs me on so many levels. The two quotes that have been attributed to her today would never be allowed by a conservative, so why are they OK for a liberal to say? If it is true that 6 of the 7 cases of hers that have been heard by the Supreme court have been overturned, what then makes her qualified to sit on the Supreme court? This notion that she is "more qualified" than anyone in 100 years is nothing short of laughable. I hope that conservatives actually find their backbone on this one and stand up. If they truly believe that there should be 3 equal branches of government, then they have no choice but to oppose a nominee that thinks it is the courts job to also do the legislatures job when ever they feel like it. It is time to vote out our representatives that do not understand how our government is supposed to work. It is judges like Ms. Sotomayor that have taken the power away from the people. I love the fact that I can tell my daughter that has diabetes, "look you can accomplish whatever you want to accomplish." And there will be many other groups that will be able to look to her "American Story" with pride. But, that doesn't change the fact that she doesn't seem to understand that Justice is supposed to be BLIND!
-

the pick of Sotomayor is a sell out to the left, and to choose some one based on empathy the wrong criteria to use. Republicans must fight her nomination based on her unsuitability not on her race.

Hey you know guys.. complaining and getting all worked up isnt going to change anything. The only thing that can make a difference and bring about real "change" is prayer! And prayer to our God! You remember on who this nation is founded! So when things get tough dont you think he will take care of his people! Our prayer is his invitation to do things on the Earth! We need to be praying for President Obama and vice president Biden and ALL the leaders, advisors, cabinent members, congress, house and even local government!
1 timothy 2:2-4 instructs us to pray for kings and ALL those who are in authority! You cant bad mouth someone if you are praying for them and you wont if you are actually praying for them! Blessing and Cursing cant come out of the same mouth! Remember Saul of Tarsus- he was a Christian killer and on his way to Damascus and he had an experience with God! So I have faith that our prayers make a difference! And I am expecting for the day that President Obama gets saved!! He is not doing as worse as Saul did and look how mightly God used him and changed his name to Paul!! I am excited to see what happens! God is in control! HE has given the Church authority in the earth so it is our job to be praying!!AMEN AND GOD BLESS!!

Obama's choice is disappointing, but not surprising. Between the courts and the hapless Congress, our Constitution means less and less every year.
All we can do is continue to write and call our legislators, demanding that they govern by law.
And we need to start educating the public. Don't they teach civics in schools anymore? The power resides with the people, if only they had the will to exercise it.

Like one of the people mentioned, I believe that God is in control and if this person is allowed by God to get on the court, it will because this person will be carrying out His will for US. If she gets on, what will that say for our country that developed and once followed the great Constitution of the United States. The days of blind justice and following this document are sadly drawing to a close. There are still some Godly and moral people left in politics, but they are few and far between. Keep trusting in the Almighty's strength and wisdom, Mike.

I thought obama was going to be a uniter? Now, he is sharply dividing the country by submitting in slavery to the extreme left? Why is it when Republicans are picking someone for Supreme court, it had to be a centrist, but when democrats pick a judge, they can be extreme left? And, since when did Judicial appointee had to become a political battle. Why don't we all pick only those who agree to abide by The Constitution, rather than have someone that wants to legislate from the bench? Balance of Power is so important to our returning to a united country once again.

President Obama's pick of Sonia Sotomayor is another clear example that Obama is feverishly attempting to move this country to the far left. She has publicly stated that she believe the Supreme Court to be a legislative branch when it is clearly defined in the Constitutional to interpret the existing laws and not to re-write them. This is a potentially dangerous nominee and if this is representative of the caliber of persons that he wants to nominate then we are potentially going to be in very bad shape because he may have the opportunity to pick two more Supreme Court justices. Scary stuff!

I never did quite understand the process by which the current president is able to nominate justices to the supreme court. On a larger scale, it's the equivalent of me being able to pick my own judge that will be on my side of the argument when I go to court.
I feel that this appointment is really just the next step on America losing a grasp of it's government. This appointment is by no means bi-partisan, by no means centrist, and is only going be a thorn in the paw of the American Judicial System for years to come.
I feel so helpless.
