Wow, have you opened up an interesting subject for discussion. Unfortunately, however, I have not read very much about AmeriCorps--just enough to know it doesn't make a lot of sense.
After all, why would we need more government spending to teach people how to volunteer? I believe we already have programs for these things such as Boyscouts, various church programs, senior citizen programs, etc. (I volunteer my baby sitting services all the time. lol)
Maybe this would be a good idea for those who are already receiving funds from the government as a means of teaching responsible for these things?
Although I don't intend to sound so negative on this issue, it just sounds like another avenue to give the government more control over our youth and what they are taught. I see very many red flags here. Who will be the teachers of these programs, and who approves their qualifications? Maybe I'm being a little paranoid here--just my thoughts that will not cost you anything. lol
BTW, welcome back to HuckPac and the Huckabeans!!
AMERICORP ANDTHE NATIONAL "VOLUNTEER" ORGANIZATION
Ms Obvious Lee (04/21/2009 06:44 PM),
Here's the answer:
Beefing up Americorp and billions in funding for "volunteer" organizations are Obama's first steps in the creation of a national "Civilian Security Force" which he has said should be "just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded" as the military.
See for yourself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tt2yGzHfy7s
Obama and his chief-of-staff Rahm Emanuel have proposed mandatory service hours for middle-schoolers and high-schoolers in such youth "volunteer" organizations, and possible enlistment in the Civilian Security Force. Details on these proposals are available by a little Googling.
I heard something on Fox news that is very upsetting to me.... They were talking about if obama was planning on proscecuting President Bush, I guess it was the CIA tapes he released.. And, when asked obama told them , " No one is above the law"....
Wonder if that includes him, from being elected as a citizen, when he never showed proof , and using ACORN to be elected.... And, having campaign funds that were never disclosed....
Ms Obvious, one more word ..... you said that you have got that 'dread vista' ... well, that's what i have. I have had it for 2 yrs now, working fine but have had nothing else to compare it to .... but as I said in my previous post ... NOT doing well at all !
I am not into the Facebook and twitter .... no more time to spare!!My email is stacking up on me now!
Seed Sower -I know there is wonder working power in those prayers .... it is always amazing how the good Lord intervenes in situations in ways we never thought and turning what seems to be a negative into a positive. Well, hope and pray that he is feeling on top of the world soon !
Ms. Obvious -
So good to see you! .... I have been intending to respond after seeing your post. I have been on the phone with the Dell Technical group from India for a solid four hours today. It was exasperating ... took them too long fixing my computer and it still is missing some tools, bars, icons, gadgets or whatever you call them .... so will have to call them back ... hard to understand the language as well. Thought they might speed up this website for me as it has been dragging so slow .... not for sure any improvement there ... oh, well. No big problem .... just a lot of aggravation.
Hope you are doing well and have all of your home duties under control. That's what I now need to be doing ... Sometimes I cannot believe that I have been blogging here non-stop for nearly 1 1/2 yrs.
Welcome back .... Captain!
Brian,I live sort of out in the country about 45 miles southwest of Ft Worth. I have lived in the Dallas-metro area for many years. Five years ago we moved farther out and we are happy to be away from all of that busyness. But not too far to drive once in awhile if I need to "shop til I drop" .... ha!Well, I will probably be seeing Mr and Mrs. Abilene around .... no need for names. .... I love the northwestern states where you are from (Ca) and Washington where I grew up. Spent some time in Oregon as well.Well, better go ..... did not mean to write a book ....... ha!
Ah! HERE you are! Thank you, Maxine, Deborah, Seed Sower, and Juliee for your directions. So happy to see you still have the coffee thing going on! (Maxine, Folgers is FINE!) and I'm enjoying your doughnuts, Brian, without having to count carbs or calories!! Yum!
Are you all active on Facebook and twitter? Does that require long hours at the computer? I see people tuned in to their "devices" all the time and it looks confining.
My tech tale of woe includes phone service that would inexplicably go out for several days at a time, and would cut off phone calls from our side while we could hear the "party to whom we were speaking" (remember Ernestine??) saying "Hello?? Hello?? I can't hear you--are you there? Gack. We changed to another provider. Then the household computer died, and the replacement came with the dread VISTA already installed. All our techie friends warned us against it--and they were RIGHT.
What's up with AmeriCorps? Is it kind of like the WPA during the depression? Today's news is talking about another $$Billion plus to fund a VOLUNTEER organization. What do you all think about it?

"Can anyone help me? I would like to watch the episode of "Huckabee" from 2 weeks ago. I believe that is the correct one. The one with Steve Forbes as a guest. I haven't been able to find a way to watch it."
Cary: here's the video you were requesting.
Here's where to find all the "HUCKABEE" show videos that are available:
You're in Abilene, right?
We have friends who are Huck supporters - moved from Fairfield, CA (Travis AFB) to Abilene (Dyess AFB) a few years ago. Need to get them in your group. Not going to post their names here though.
Brian - ha! .... i get the drift. You bet those are fightin words !... I guess, ... I for one have been cut to size. sniff, sniff
I will pass on the donuts, but thank-you very much !Silliness does help sometimes ...
Many have posted here regarding the Federal Reserve and the lack of any real accountability.H.R.1027, a bill to Audit the Federal Reserve Bank, has now garnered 55 co-sponsors and has been referred to the House Committee on Financial Services. This is a major development. The bill will now be debated and voted upon in the Committee and will then either go to the House for a debate and vote or will be defeated.
MOST BILLS DIE IN COMMITTEE FOR LACK OF SUPPORT. There is no way to know how long it will stay in Committee. That means it's all up to YOU.
It's a major step forward for our movement to get the House to even consider a bill which questions the autonomous authority of the Fed. We MUST make the most of this opportunity!
IMAGINE THE NEWS ON TUESDAY MORNING. “Flood of phone calls shuts down Congressional Switchboard”. YES WE CAN!
I meant to post this on here but I think I posted it on another one. If I already posted this here forgive me! Ha! Ha!
Ms Obvious Lee was over on the other thread asking where every one was hanging out. She said she was a fan of Maxine, Jill, and Husker. I left the link to this tread over there and told her we were all over here. I forgot to tell her to save that link to her favorites so she can get here easier.
Just thought I'd let you know she was asking.
Have a blessed day!
YES, THOSE ARE DONUTS
If that were a pizza in that box (04/20/2009 02:46 PM), he would need a much stronger wrist to hold it in that position one-handed! (limp-wristed? ha ha!)
Wanna see what's in the box?
Get out your barf bag!
Sometimes, friends, it's better for my state of mind just to mellow out and post silly things rather than go into intellectual combat with people who aren't interested in truly listening.
Universal maxim: Never tell Texans that their state is nothing special and just like all the others. Them's fightin' words!
Juliee,04/20/2009 11:07 PM
Have you used your disk cleanup? Some times when my computer gets slow I run that and it does better. Compressing your file may help also. You've probably done all this though. Not talking down to you. Ha! Ha! Just mentioning things that we sometimes forget about. When I was having my problems with this site others wasn't, so if all of the above hasn't helped then there could be a problem.
Ginny help me. She is really nice she doesn't make you feel like you are a bother.
Have a blessed day!
Thank you for defending me! I love each and everyone of you! I was over here wondering where everyone went. I got an email that gave me the heads up that something was going on over there. So went over there. I don't want to say anything about that. I can see where it could have been, maybe not, more about another post I had made about someone else's post that triggered it more than what I posted in that one.
My husband's fever is normal now, but he is still taking Tyenol and a cough syrup with a pain reliever in it so it's hard to tell what it would be with out him taking that. I don't mean this to hurt my husband but this flu has caused him to become a little grumpy. Ha! Ha! It's understandable though. So I need your prayers too!!!! Ha! Ha!
Jill,04/20/2009 10:52 PM
He hasn't had any BP meds since Sunday morning and his BP was 97/60 this morning. It appears that our words of faith maybe manifesting in the flesh. All the glory be to God! The few times he would let me take his BP before the prostate problem it was always 120/80. Perfect!
The devil thought he was hurting us when he attacked my husbands prostate but the Lord used what the devil meant for evil for good. We wouldn't have known the cancer was in his bladder if it hadn't been for the prostate problem. I have cursed that cancer in the name of Jesus Christ. It needs to die and go back to it's father the devil. I'm talking about the cancer not my husband. Ha! Ha! Didn't want to be missunderstood. Ha! Ha! Humor is good! Ha! Ha!
This flu has caused my husband to be a little grumpy. But when someone comes in he's totally different. Ha! Ha!
It is a lot quieter and more encouraging here. But most people don't think to Google HuckPAC Open Discussion Thread, so we have a really small group of really nice people to talk to!
Thank God for the New Team Huck Posting Rules. We can now email Ginny if we feel that any posts are inappropriate.
Apparently people with too many initials after their names think they're higher and mightier and smarter than the rest of us.
They lost me when colleges went to co-ed dorms. I said I wasn't going there.
Once I made the decision to start my secretarial career first, I never looked back.
Juliee, I'm not having any problem on Team Huck or Facebook. About a year ago, a friend gave me a newer HP computer, and I put 2 sticks of 500 ram (or maybe higher, it's been a while!) and that seemed to do the trick!
It sure is a blessing to be able to keep up with technology! Hope your computer is doing better.
Here y'all are!
Maxine sent me over here, saying that Brian Snow had coffee & donuts over on the Thread.
Brian, you didn't disappoint! The donuts and coffee are great! Are those donuts, that Obama is carrying? It looks more like a pizza. Oh, well...I wouldn't want, what he has anyway! :-D
Some of us are over on another blog trying to defend your honor. It's nicer over here, sharing coffee & donuts. :-D Sorry to hear that your husband is still not feeling well. Does he still have a fever? My fever lasted for 2 1/2 weeks. You will both continue to be in my prayers.
Thanks Brian! God Bless All!
Seed SowerWouldn't it be wonderful if he never had to be on blood pressure medicine again .... unusual for it to start getting too low if it has never done that before. Could a miracle be in process ... hope so!
This website continues to move so slow for me ... I am losing patience. I don't notice the slowness elsewhere ? ? ?
I thought that was so nice of Brian! I felt like I was all by myself on here and he popped up with coffee and donuts! Boy, I bet you all smelled that fresh coffee and donuts and came a running. Didn't you! Ha! Ha!
Jill,My husband's blood pressure went so low this weekend that I told him not to take his blood pressure meds this morning. I called the doctor and she called me back this afternoon and told me to tell him, since he was doing so well without it, to not take it and for me to record it and call her Thursday and let her know how he was doing. He was complaining about it being too hot and sweating and it was only 70 degrees in here. She said too low BP would cause that.
I'll pass on the Obama donuts also. I think they're probably green with mold!
Here's something I will go for!

more donuts ...
well, I'll take a pass on the Obama donuts ... not sure what is in the filling ... ?
there is a 'very few' on here that may like them though. I wonder if they have ever written him a letter yet to thank him for all the good that he has done for our country ??
Seed Sower -
well, look what we got! Brian's donuts and coffee look so fresh, seems like I ought to be able to just pick them up off the screen.yum-yum! .... now my taste buds are driving me crazy!
Seed Sower, hang in there. Tomorrow will be a brighter day. Thanks for all of your encouraging and uplifting words here ...God loves you and your husband ... I know you know that, but we never get tired of hearing it from others.
Praying for you ... and you have a blessed day as well !!
Very interesting video there that I had not seen!! ... my "trust factor" in Gov. Perry is at the bottom of the chart as in "zero".What a slip of the tongue! He certainly had Mike Huckabee's name on his brain and I am guessing that he really does know who is best to lead our country ... ha! ... so "out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaketh"
Seems like he was on the same page as Pat Robertson thinking that it was okay to endorse Giuliani even though as he says, he himself has a more traditional republican stance on abortion. So he is banking on Giuliani putting in "strict constructionist judges" ... like Alito, Roberts and Scalia .... Well, don't think you can bank on it Perry if saving the life of the unborn isn't too high on Giuliani's list and we need someone also that supports the sanctity of marriage of woman/man.Pretty boy Perry ... will not get my vote. Don't know why he was pushing for Giuliani ... but must be looking at an award or something for himself is my guess.Aren't we sick and tired of those politicians that have such a self interest in "me, and what can I get out of it" ....Plus Rudy struck out big time in this past election. He could not even take Florida where he spent his entire time campaigning!
Hi Brian,WOW! Looks good and taste good too! Ha! Ha!
Doesn't this feel strange? Ha! Ha! Everybody seemed to decide to take off on the same day. Ha! Ha!
Thanks for the coffee and donuts! I tried to post muffins but didn't figure it out! Ha! Ha!
Have a blessed day!
WHAT COLOR DO YOU SUPPOSEOBAMA'S DONUTS ARE?
Anyone here want to partake of this jolly good fellow's donuts and coffee?
Maybe people are getting bored with the old coffee and donuts. Try offering up some new ones, and see what happens.
WOW!!! This is the deadist I seen this thread! Even the others aren't doing anything. Am I missing something? Ha! Ha!
Hello-o-o-o! Is there anyone there? Hey girls! Ha! Ha!
Jill--I was just beginning to give Gov. Perry a little slack until I saw this video where he is supporting Rudy Giulianni. I found it interesting however, that he accidentally mentions Gov. Huckabee in this interview.
Jill & Deborah,
LOL! :-D Yup, that's the same song that plays on my Dashboard!
Perhaps Team Huck is turning it into their "theme song" for this website. I think it would be great to have it playing when people first log-in or visit Huck*Pac. Maybe I was part of their Test Group! :-D The mystery unfolds!
Deborah,04/19/2009 07:15 PM
I'm not angry with Glenn Beck. I wish him no harm. I pray the Lord have mercy on him. The Lord will take care of it.
I don't like how Hannity is talking about those Tea Parties. You would think it was a GOP thing. Of course it didn't help when they had mostly GOP's speakers. It would have been good to get down in the crowd and speak to the Dems. and Independents. They just said they were there. Have a blessed day!
I didn't hear what Glenn Beck said recently about Gov. Mike Huckabee, but I found a transcript of the first time they met.
It looks like Glenn has a bee in his bonnet about some comments Gov. Huckabee was asked about the Mormon Faith in a newspaper interview.
Gov. Huckabee apologized, but apparently that wasn't enough for Mr. Beck. Mr. Beck didn't get a hug from Gov. Huckabee or a hand on his shoulder, so he doubts Gov. Huckabee's sincerity.
Glenn is going way back into the past about the way the Mormons were treated when they were breaking American marriage laws and is projecting this into the current political debate.
I've heard Gov. Huckabee apologize for our country's past racism, and I believe Mr. Beck is making a big deal out of nothing.
A Baptist pastor is going to feel a responsibility to explain what true Bible believing Christians feel about the Bible and the path to Heaven.
That's Evangelism 101 and most fundamentalists would agree with Gov. Huckabee's statements.
Glenn Beck doesn't understand that our Founding Fathers (which he talks a lot about) founded America as a Christian nation -- as followers of Jesus Christ, not followers of Joseph Smith and Jesus.
Glenn Beck was miffed that Gov. Huckabee didn't jump on the idea of going to the Mormon leaders and discussing their religion with them when Mike Huckabee was in the middle of a political campaign.
As an Evangelical Christian, that seems unreasonable to me.
We shouldn't be angry with Glenn Beck. We should pray for him and continue to be friendly toward him, while at the same time respectfully sharing our Christian views.
Can anyone help me? I would like to watch the episode of "Huckabee" from 2 weeks ago. I believe that is the correct one. The one with Steve Forbes as a guest. I haven't been able to find a way to watch it.
I didn't know Glenn Beck said that Gov. Huckabee was a Progressive. May God have mercy on his soul! Baring false witness is dangerous but baring false witness about those who are called by His ( the Lord's) name is even more so. This is just awful!! I hope someone is setting him straight. Here we go again! If Glenn Beck is wrong about this then how can we trust him on anything else?!
Boy, the devil is doing all he can to stop Gov. Huckabee from becoming president.
I plead the protection of the blood of Jesus Christ on Gov. Huckabee! I pray Isaiah 54:17. No weapon formed against him will prosper, and every tongue that shall rise against him in judgment he shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord. Amen!!
I had one of my posts put up right away. That probably means that Ginny was sitting there watching and really liked what you were saying and posted it right away!
Juliee, Gravatars disappeared for me a few days ago, but I thought it was my wireless internet connection! LOL!
I think I need a new computer and a new large (HUGE!)flat screen monitor.
I did put 2 500 ram sticks in about a year ago, and the computer is kicking butt pretty good. :)
To hear your Dashboard Music, go to the front page and hear Kyle Constable's newest YouTube video. It's awesome!
Juliee--I think there could still be some maintenance happening here. For example, when I was in the "Open Threader's" group, my comment that I posted appeared instantly kind of like the comments do on Huck's Army. That was a one-time occurence, but I think that is the way it is supposed to function as it is called a chat room.
I will continue to listen for the music--maybe that is something they are trying to add to the site?
BTW, are you on Facebook? If so, would you give me a "friend" request?
Juliee04/18/2009 08:00 PM
I tried what you said to do and I still didn't hear any music. I haven't had any of the trouble I was having since they got it all worked out.
Thank you Juliee but I to wait until I'm able to donate too before I put my donor number up. I don't know when that will be. Ha! Ha!
Maxine, Juliee, Deborah, SaraAnn, and all,My husband has the flu he's doing better but still running a fever and hurting all over bad. Nothing they can give him but something for pain, it's so bad that it doesn't get rid of all of it, and antibiotics so he won't get an infection on top of it. His blood pressure is too low. I've got to keep record of his BP for a week. They may have to either change or take him off of the BP meds.
He was suppose to go back to the Urologist Friday had to cancel. His new appointment for that is 4/27. Thank God for the Great Physician. His doctor called today to ask about him. I've never known a doctor to do that. I thought that was really great!
Keep him in your prayers!
Do all you guys drink Folgers? I hope so as I couldn't think of anythingelse to practice my mugs with. I hope you guys enjoyed "Huckabee" as much as I did tonight.
Lola--I hope you get a good night's sleep tonight, and that your husband is feeling better!
Lola, Maxine, Deborah, Jill,
There seems to be a lot of "wacky" things going on with the new website. Sometimes all the gravatars disappear. Sometimes when I am typing something, the screen starts jumping around.
Try logging-in, click-on your dashboard, don't scroll down, and then wait a few minutes to see if you hear any music. Make sure you have your volume turned-up.
Deborah, Thanks for the links!
I still haven't seen your new Ranger Code! :-D
OOPS! Gotta go! HUCKABEE is starting!
Lola--No, I didn't think that at all. I was really only kidding in my opening sentence. I guess I should have made my "lol" in caps. My daughter and I often make jokes about debating as we go to churches that are just a little different. Nonetheless, I like Deborah consider myself blessed to have two Christian daughters and many wonderful grandchildren.
I agree with you about the "discouragement" that sometimes comes when there is a desire to use ones gifts & talents. There is often not enough encouragement. I see this particularly within the church & especially where women are concerned. Sad indeed!
I feel like I'm missing out. I'm not seeing any blinking avatars!
Myself and both my brother and sister all married farmers.
Aunt Jody is a veterinarian, and we tease Doctor Jody because she's so good natured.
We've never called her a RedNeck, but my niece Bethany calls all her farmer boy cousins that!
We have a blast on Holidays because we all get along so well.
Thank God for good Christian families who don't smoke or drink.
I've said many a prayer of thanks for that blessing!
Maxine,04/18/2009 05:51 PMO-o-o-ops! I'm sorry! I didn't mean to sound like I was debating you. I was just saying I goofed! Ha! Ha!
Juliee,04/17/2009 10:37 PMThat is wierd I don't hear music in my dash board. :-D How do you rate? Ha! Ha! Just kidding!
I suppose you and I will have a long drawn out debate over this. lol. Actually this is one of those things that is a none-issue. It really doesn't matter to whom he was talking, it still has the same meaning. Also, I would think that he did talk to his disciples about these things as he taught them various things through parables and illustrations.
As far as the remarks that are being made by this actress, I think Charlie Daniels probably got it right when he sant, "What This World Needs is a Few More Redecks." lol.
Juliee--I am also experiencing strsnge things on here. The other day when I was in the "Open Threaders" group, my Ranger gravatar started blinking. Of course I can understand why that would happen, but the music--that is really weird. lol
I hope you are continuing to improve and getting stronger each day! :)
Maxine,04/17/2009 09:02 PM
You know, I don't know where my head was when I posted that. I apologized to Deborah. I told her my first Adam nature wants to say "that husband you gave me Lord." Ha! Ha! Charley has the flu and he chilled so bad that he shook the whole bed that night. So my excuse is, "I was sleep deprived!" LOL! For some reason in my mind instead of where it was talking about "give to Ceasar what is Ceasar's," I was thinking where Jesus and his disciple was entering that city and was charged a fee. That's where Jesus told the disciple where to find the fish that had the money in it's mouth. When I make a mistake though I'm always willing to admit it. Ha! Ha! God bless you for not pointing out my error. It would have been OK though. I wouldn't have taken offence.
Did you hear them calling those in the Tea Party racist "Red Necks!" Ha! Ha! I doubt if the actress who said that even knew what Red Neck originally meant. I read that those who work out in the elements were called Red Necks. You know those who grow their food and build their houses and etc. It would be interesting to see what they would do without the blue collar working people in all areas. You get the idea. God bless their ignorant souls. Even business owners were in that crowd.
Have a blessed day!
Here's another song of Susan Boyle's: Cry Me A River by Susan Boyle
Here'sthe Susan Boyle Fan Site
Juliee, I thought you would enjoy this. Here's that DashBoard song you heard. Wish I could hear it too!
Everyday Sunday - Wake Up! Wake Up! Music Video
Susan Boyle's New Song: 'My Heart Will Go On'
Juliee -When I first saw and heard that video of Susan Boyle ... it was like 'chills' running up my spine. NOT just your ordinary contestant! I know there are gifts out there in all of God's children .... that have not been tapped into. Some of us may not have received the encouragement in our growing-up years and/or the financial backing to pursue our dreams. As years go by, you tend to say "what is the use" .... and you put those dreams on a back shelf. It really breaks my heart when I have seen gifted and talented members in my own family who for one reason or another never pursued them or just allowed the enemy to hinder and stop them from blooming and becoming a reality.
So ... we should never give up. I am reminded of:
Proverbs 18:16 ... A man's gift maketh room for him and bringeth him before great men.(this certainly happened to Susan Boyle) ..... You cannot always count on people .... but you can count on a BIG God .... if we have faith and 'Faith WITH Works'. I will tell you one thing that it is our enemy the devil that does not want to see God's children come to 'full bloom' ......
Juliee - about that song on your dashboard .... happening too often here to be coincidental .... must be a 'God intervention' ... (he does work in mysterious ways, his wonders to perform)
I can't believe it's midnight, and I'm sitting here practicing these mugs. I'm also watching Hannity and these comments that some of the liberals are making about the tea parties is unbelievable. I'm glad it's not up to me to understand what makes them think the way they do. I thought they might act a little nicer since their candidate won the election. It seems that they haven't realized this yet._________/'\[`*`H`*``]'` '\[`*`U`*``]''''/[`*`C`*``][`*`K`*``]""""""""
