Media And The Tea Party Movement

THE BACKGROUND

Recently, a story broke about website for journalists called "journolist." The website was characterized by a story on the Politico website this way: "Journolist was founded by Ezra Klein in early 2007. Journolist was limited to those 'from nonpartisan to liberal, center to left.' Klein determined who would get on Journolist - political reporters, academics, think tank members, left-wing bloggers - and it grew from a manageable 30 members to a pretty unmanageable 400. There was no censorship."

The emails were leaked and according to records obtained by The Daily Caller, "at several points during the 2008 presidential campaign a group of liberal journalists took radical steps to protect their favored candidate. Employees of news organizations including Time, Politico, the Huffington Post, the Baltimore Sun, the Guardian, Salon and the New Republic participated in outpourings of anger over how Obama had been treated in the media, and in some cases plotted to fix the damage."

THE RESPONSE

Chief White House Correspondent and Political Director for NBC news - Chuck Todd talked about Journolist website:

"I am sure Ezra (creator of Journolist) had good intentions when he created it, but I am offended the right is using this as a sledgehammer against those of us who don't practice activist journalism.

"Journolist was pretty offensive. Those of us who are mainstream journalists got mixed in with journalists with an agenda. Those folks who thought they were improving journalism are destroying the credibility of journalism.

"This has kept me up nights. I try to be fair. It's very depressing."

THE HYPOCRISY
A note to "journalists" being lumped in with "journolists":

If Mr. Todd and other journalists are "offended" about the right's "sledgehammer" being used to lump them in with agenda driven journalists that predominately populated the website - then I'm furious about the wrecking ball being used to do the same thing with the Tea Party movement - who's only "offense" to date, is passionately but peacefully articulating a message of less government intrusion and fewer taxes.

I wonder if we can expect the same lamentation and sleep deprived nights for Mr. Todd and other journalists when MSNBC chooses to focus on a few Tea party attendees and broadly paint them as some kind of blanket representative of the entire nationwide Tea party movement.

Mr. Todd and a few journalists may "try to be fair" . . . but based on the biased coverage I've seen against the Tea Party movement, some need to try harder.

    Ron & Dottie...

I agree...I think it would be great if Mike could get a debate going on one of his shows. See if he could bring in people from both sides of the fair tax and the flat tax. Glenn is a proponent of the flat tax (which is lame-in my opinion)
If MIke could get Glenn to see that the fair tax would work better than the flat tax. Get the experts of both on his show and devote the entire show on the issues of both plans...and make sure Glenn Beck is there too...hash out/debate them. I believe Glenn would come to see the light (so to speak)

If we could get Glenn Beck to jump on board The FairTax.

    Check out FairTax.org and FairTaxNation.com

It would be great if people like Huckabee, Beck, Palin and others would recommend C-span and c-span2 to see Congress in action.
The House which is normally on C-span is on summer recess. The Senate on c-span2 is in the middle of debating on Kagan for associate justice. Watching the Senate and House in action is eye opening.

Thank goodness for Glenn Beck. He got us seeking out our friends, family, and neighbors of like minds. If it were not for Glenn, we might not have the "tea parties" today, 9-12 Project, etc. He has done alot to inform the people of what is really going on in congress, the whitehouse, and our beloved republic. God bless Glenn Beck. and of course, obamas radical policies got us hear quicker than John McCain would have ever gotten us to. This was needed to get us back on track. We have been blind to the progressives that have hijacked the democrat party and even some in the republican party (establishment) Thank you Glenn Beck. Give credit where credit is due...please...

This cannot possibly surprise anyone that the lame stream media and "journolist" are little more than a hijacked, misguided community organized propaganda machine. How could the Tea Party not come into existence when so much evil is going on to stamp out the republic? Is it any wonder why FOX News remains number one choice if you want real news and facts? Keep up the good work, Huck, and help us all to keep after those that seek to sell our country and even their souls down the river for personal gain off of the fruits from the labor of others.

"May God grant me to speak with judgement, and to have thoughts worthy of what I have received: for He is the guide even of wisdom and the corrector of the wise. For both we and our words are in His hands, as are all understanding and skill in crafts."

In my meditations God wants me to tell you to put together plans A, B, C in regards to any minor case scenario to major case scenario with which you need to respond to any questions the media will ask of you and then also meditate on them and also ask regarding anything that would be as a possible unexpected scenario or surprise so that you will be predared for the journalists.

"I AM the light of heart
Shining in the darkness of being
And changing all into the golden treasury, of the mind of Christ.

    I AM projecting my love
    out into the world
    To erase all errors
And to break down all barriers.

I AM the power of infinite love,
    Amplifying itself
    Until it is victorious,

Chuck Todd is one of the most dishonest broadcast journalists I have seen in a half century of watching the news on TV. He has the gall to masquerade as an "objective reporter" while slavishly serving the liberal biases of his bosses at NBC. I change the channel whenever his comically serious visage appears onscreen.

There is a double standard; there are numerous accounts of people on the Left being bigoted, hypocrites and just plan deplorable.

Reid calling Obama 'light skinned... etc.', Byrd being a high level KKK member, Bill Clinton stating that Obama a few yrs would have been getting us coffee, Boxer belittling the black Business group on the Senate floor, and far many more examples.

What upsets me lately, on the various Fox shows and others is that you have two guests (one from the Left and one from the Right) and the person from the Right is not allowed to speak while the person from the Left is overbearing and belligerent and over talks the other. This needs to stop, we all need to just as belligerent and frankly we need to shut them down verbally. Else, we will lose every argument – for example – if someone calls you a ‘racist’ immediately fire back – ‘you’re racist’ – do not back down and provide examples of the Left’s hypocrisy.

You said it Gov. Huckabee, "elections have consequences." Because the media was not unbiased in their reporting, many people were deceived about our current President, and continue to be deceived with many empty promises and outright lies. Now our nation is being transformed into something most Americans don't want.

U.S. Patients Face Lower Quality, Long Waits
    By Cal Thomas
    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2010/07/30/obamacare_means_lower_quality_long_waits_106553.html

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., told a group of liberal activists meeting in Las Vegas they shouldn't worry about not getting the single-payer provision in the new health care law. "We're going to have a public option," Reid said. "It's just a question of when."

Remember the objections conservatives and many Republicans raised during the debate about government-run health care and the danger of eliminating private health insurance, despite its many flaws?

Recall that Britain's National Health Service was frequently cited as an example of where the U.S. health system might be headed: coverage for all, but with lower quality, long waits for major surgery and denial of care when the government decides the procedure is not "cost effective."

Anyone who believes a U.S. health care system based on the NHS model can somehow fare better than Britain's had better consider this recent headline and story from London's Sunday Telegraph: "Axe Falls on NHS Services; Hip operations, cataract surgery and IVF rationed; Cancer care, maternity, pediatric services at risk."

Rationing? Oh yes, and it is something the unconfirmed, recess-appointed U.S. health care czar, Donald Berwick, strongly favors.

British government leaders had promised to protect frontline services. The Obama administration also made similar promises in order to win enough support from members of Congress, most of whom never read the bill before they voted for it.

Here's what America can look forward to if it follows the NHS model, according to an investigation by the Sunday Telegraph: "Plans to cut hundreds of thousands of pounds from budgets for the terminally ill, with dying cancer patients to be told to manage their own symptoms if their condition worsens at evenings or weekends." Never has "take two aspirin and call me in the morning" sounded more callous.

Nursing homes for the elderly would be closed, the number of hospital beds for the mentally ill reduced and general practitioners would be discouraged from sending patients to hospitals. Accident and emergency department services would also be cut.

Thousands of jobs would be lost at NHS hospitals, reports the Telegraph, "including 500 staff to go at a trust where cancer patients recently suffered delays in diagnosis and treatment because of staff shortages." Katherine Murphy of the Patients Association called the cuts "astonishingly brutal."

She expressed particular concern at attempts to ration (that word again) hip and knee operations. "These are not unusual procedures," she said. "This is a really blatant attempt to save money by leaving people in pain."

What do politicians care about that? In Britain, as in America, top officials (including Berwick, who has lifetime health coverage given to him by the Institute for Health Care Improvement) will always have access to the best care, even while they decide the rest of us cannot.

This paragraph in the Telegraph story should send chills down the spine of every American: "Doctors across the country have already been told that their patients can have the operations only if they are given 'prior approval' by the Primary Care Trust, with each authorization made on a 'case by case' basis."

When cost, rather than the value of life, becomes supreme, rationing will inevitably lead to other cost-cutting policies. And yes, despite protestations from those who favored Obamacare that "death panels" would not be part of the equation, you can count on them.

They will, of course, be called something else. We wouldn't want to disturb any remaining moral sensibilities we might have.

It has taken the NHS 62 years to get to this point. America's journey should be a lot shorter given the declared goals of Harry Reid and Donald Berwick.

Journolist and the like willed Obama to power; they got him elected. They treated then-Senator Obama with kid gloves - even blocked for him - while they trashed everyone else, even Hillary (especially Hillary. Remember the SNL skits poking fun at the media's treatment of Hillary v. Obama?)

There is no reforming the main-stream media. They are infested with leftists trained at Columbia, NYU, etc. When you understand the mind of the Left, you understand that they believe to their core that their glorious objectives justify any means necessary. No, there is no reforming them. They must be humiliated then ignored as worthless and the frauds that they really are.

    Dear Mike;
Let me open by stating that I am one of those "slightly left of center" independents, who grew up in a Firm Virginia Republican Family in the 1960's. You caught my eye, and ear, during the 2008 campaign and I became a true supporter. Then, and now, I firmly believe that you have a commanding understanding of "the beliefs and desires of the American People" and there is little doubt in my mind that you are the most qualified individual who could serve as President.
That said; I find it hard to comprehend how anyone could /should/or would, take the time to criticize ANY media outlet(mainstream or otherwise). Those who support you will agree with you. Those who don't, will disagree; hence: nothing gained. The American people are beginning to realize that the true Media in America no longer exists. Almost all Media has been taken over by organizations with "an agenda". The track to success lies with the individual who can present a message that wll be recieved and presented by most, if not all media, as acceptable or better.I truly believe that your message and beliefs are the best option available for ALL the American People. but if you wish to have ALL the American People take the time to listen to what you have to say, you MUST take a Centrist approah to the media. I wish you luck. I want to see you as President.

Oh my, the POOR main stream media. The large newspaper in our city is stationing salespeople outside Walmart and grocery stores trying to give away papers and begging people to subscribe. One guy even pointed out that two days a week we can even read conservative commentators onthe editorial page. "I try to be fair" translates to "Be reasonable, see it my way."

Like many Christian Americans, I'm reading and meditating on Psalm 73 this week, and praying that God will open the eyes of my fellow Americans to the truth. Also asking Him to extend His grace to those who have been used by the arch deceiver.

Mr. Todd may be offended at reports of the "journolist" and how they attempted to influance the 2008 election; however he does not "refudiate" them for it, nor does he deny that it happened. Which is no surprise, Mr. Todd is constantly breathless and fawning in his coverage of Pres. Obama, and rarely, if ever, reports anything that would paint the current administration in a bad light. I take offence at the knee jerk reaction that any Tea Party story must be a story against the Tea Party. I wonder when Mr. Todd will report about the Tea Party going against Rep. incumbants as well as Dems?

I am very concerned that the Republican vs Tea Party will only cause to lose votes due to the split in the Conservative parties. This will only help the Dems and we must support one another and unite against the DEMS!

It's quite interesting how the left screams "foul" when lumped in with a group with a negative perception. They have no hesitation in grouping ALL of us who participate in Tea Parties with a few who might (I say might because no hard proof has been presented) have made inappropriate remarks at a rally.

Hypocrisy? Double standard? Tacky? Yea...I think so!
