Hello Team Huck PAC-
Chip should have been more careful in his selection of Christmas gifts, but no one who knows him would ever suggest that he in any way would purposely disparage other people. Chip knows how sensitive such issues are. It shouldn’t be the main factor in the RNC race.
The election of Barack Obama is not only historic for our country but it is something all Americans, not just Democrats, should celebrate. As I have said many times the election of Mr. Obama is significant not because of his race or in spite of it, but with indifference to it. He was not my choice for President, but he will be MY President over the next four years and I will support him personally and pray for his success. I will certainly disagree with him at times, but I pledge that my disagreements with him will be over his policy decisions and not aimed at him personally. I ask that all of you will join with me in doing that.
Faithfully,
Mike Huckabee

I do not wish Mr.Obama ill-will,but I cannot wish him to be a successful President. To do so would mean that he would be successful in implementing policies that will be detrimental to this country and perhaps a second term, and with a democrat congress untold harm would be in the offing.

Gov. Huckabee: Thanks so much for all you've done to advance conservative pro-family issues!
You've put in so much road time that we're not sure when you are ever home except on Holidays!
We stand behind you to assist in any endeavor you deem worthy in 2009! Have a blessed and prosperous New Year!

We appreciate your respectfulness toward president-elect Barak Obama, but there is still a niggling Constitutional Crisis that may be looming in Jan.
No president-elect ever before in history has ever had the audacity to try to get law passed allowing candidates who are NOT natural born citizens to be eligible for president, yet that's EXACTLY what happened in 2005, the same year Sen. Obama came to Washington D.C.
Did you realize that in 2005 Congress tried to pass amendments making naturalized citizens eligible for the presidency but failed?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._President
"In 2005, two amendments to the Constitution of the United States were proposed to permit persons having been citizens of the United States for many years but not being natural-born citizens to hold the Office of President. Neither bill got any further action beyond that year.
H.J.RES.2, introduced on January 4, 2005, sponsored by Rep. John Conyers, Jr. (D-MI-14) and cosponsored by Rep. Brad Sherman (D-CA-27), would require 20 years of citizenship for naturalized Americans to be eligible to hold the Office of President.[6] H.J.RES.42, introduced on April 14, 2005, sponsored by Rep. Vic Snyder (D-AR-2) and cosponsored by Christopher Shays (R-CT-4), would require 35 years of citizenship for naturalized Americans to be eligible to hold the offices of President and Vice President."

Most covered-up of 2008: Natural-born citizen -- WND editors join with readers to determine the year's top 10

© 2009 WorldNetDaily"Charges that Barack Obama is not a natural born citizen of the U.S. and, therefore, constitutionally ineligible to serve as president top the list of the 10 most "spiked" or underreported stories of the last year, according to an annual WND survey.
At the end of each year, news organizations typically present their retrospective replays of what they consider to have been the top news stories in the previous 12 months.
WND's editors, however, have long considered it far more newsworthy to publicize the most important unreported or underreported news events of the year – to highlight perhaps for one last time major news stories that were undeservedly "spiked" by the establishment press.
WND Editor and CEO Joseph Farah has sponsored "Operation Spike" every year since 1988, and since founding WorldNetDaily in May 1997, he has continued the annual tradition."

BTW, Governor, I think you should fire your editor before writing your next book. Do The Right Thing has several spelling mistakes and usage errors that a good editor should catch before it gets published.

Ben, I have posted over at hucksarmy (under nrobyar) the same statements you make here. The less said by Governor Huckabee on this subject the better. I think his statement said all it needed to say without giving the media any "material" to run with. I see nothing racist or offensive about the CD, but my black friends over at hucksarmy were offended by it. I agree that it would be good for Chip to apologize, not for the CD but for the fact that some were offended by it (which was certainly NOT his intention). Better to move on to more important topics.

^^^^ IS THIS THE BREAK THROUGH WE HAVE BEEN PRAYING FOR? ^^^^
Thanks to Arlen Williams vigilance there is Breaking News TODAY….
“Obama's Kenyan Birth Evidence to be Revealed Today, Online”
http://investigatingobama.blogspot.com/2008/12/obamas-kenyan-birth-evidence-to-be.htmlREMEMBER, THIS IS NOT COMPLETE EVIDENCE AS YET…. BUT SURE LOOKS PROMISING.
Here is the start of the article from the “Investigating Obama” website:-
“A private investigator in Hawaii has uncovered the divorce decree for Barack Obama's father and mother, which indicates they had "one child under the age of eighteen, born in Kenya." That is the report of Ed Hale of PlainsRadio.com, an Internet radio site which has focused upon the natural born Citizen challenges to Obama's presidential eligibility.”
The article concludes with:-
“Meanwhile, on the question of Obama's place of birth, professionals dealing with documents and forensic evidence have testified that the online "certificate of live birth" provided by Obama is not identifiable evidence of American birth. Now, if Obama's parents' divorce decree states that he was born in Kenya (as his Kenyan grandmother has repeatedly stated) the second epistemological wheel is coming off his vehicle to the White House.
Will Congress pay attention and do its Constitutional duty?”
I urge you to keep praying that there will be a Divine Intervention on behalf of We the People of The United States of America for:-
* Jan 8th Joint Meeting of Congress where Electoral College Votes are ratified… That at least One or more Members will take his or her Oath to uphold The Constitution seriously!
* US Supreme Court Closed door Hearings Jan 9th & 16th re Eligibility (This will be the 3rd & 4th Case… the 1st & 2nd could possibly be still “Pending”…. And there are more to come!)
* and if this gets that far, pray for Chief Justice John Roberts for Jan 20th re his conscience to administer the Oath!

@All-in for Mike No, no, no, no, and once more with feeling, NO! Why on EARTH should Chip pander to people's ignorance? He doesn't have anything to apologize for except possibly for some blindness in selecting gift recipients, since one was apparently felt they needed their 15 minutes of fame.
Besides, the term Magic Negro comes from Hollywood! They invented it, so to have Lefties screaming about it just makes me giggle. Hypocrisy is the new black, after all.
It's a common enough thing that it is even considered a trope, defined as " a common or overused theme or device : cliché"
If you've ever seen Morgan Freeman in...gosh, just about anything, you've seen one. He is perennially the humble, fundamentally good minority person called upon to Explain Stuff to us silly white people or other people not thinking clearly.
That the only working brain in any of his movies seems to be his, I suppose could be seen as an "opiate for the masses" of black and other minority people people looking for a hero who doesn't make them cringe, but that is a Hollywood thing too: Taking an idea and running it into the ground...that and pandering to one group or another at any given moment.
The only bad thing I see with the Magic Negro bit is that they are always surrounded by idiots of varying degrees...and the idiots are usually white.

There was nothing wrong with what Chip did. We're buying the politically correct mentality, and letting them hogtie and gag us into silence and fear of speaking the truth about them while they push their agenda through with no problem.
We're letting them set the terms of the debate and letting them tell us what we should and shouldn't be offended about. We need to forget about what they think, and speak the truth about the liberal without paying them any attention. It's time to forget the lions roar, and work on going after the prey.
All this indignant and offended fuss about this gift is actually helping them to further their agenda. We need to forget about reaching across the aisle. Sure Reagan did it, but his idea was to pull them over to our side. McCain's idea is to let them pull us over onto their side. We need to focus on our principles, and then we'll start seeing some real progress in our party.

Thank you so much, Governor Huckabee, for giving the right response with few enough words that there is no reason for people to doubt either your respect for Chip or your opinion that the choice of a gift might not have been very wise, but hurtful intentionally hurtful to anyone.
We are also thankful to be reassured of Chip's character and sensitivity to racial issues. It would be hard to imagine you endorsing anyone with insensitivity to any group of people, especially how you always reached out to the black community.
And also, it is great for you to give us the leadership in praying for the future President. It appears that, though he was not our choice, Barack Obama will be the next President. He will have his hands full. It is a good reminder to us to do as you will do: Oppose him where needed on the basis of policy and not over any personal disagreements or dislikes.
Please join me to pray, those who desire to do so>>>
> That Chip will not be hurt by this unfortunate choice of a gift.
> That he and we will be more conscious of how things hurt others.
> That there will not be any long-lasting effect on either Chip's or Gov. Huckabee's careers, but that this will be an opportunity to reassure people of their real concern for all Americans. (Romans 8:28)
> That repentance will be genuine.
> That the best person will be elected as RNC chair to lead the Republican Party in the future to help overcome their problems
> That whoever is elected will make a priority to reach out to conservatives of all backgrounds so race will no longer be an issue. It is God who will give wisdom, whenever we ask. "If ANY of YOU lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the LORD..." (James 2:5-7)
Thanks for helping me to pray. This is a command that God gives us, to pray for our leaders.

Doesn't anyone else find it interesting that the same media types, including Fox News, and the RNC powerhouses that opposed and sabotaged Huckabee during the primaries are now rallying against Chip, using this parody song business as a weapon.
This is just another strike at social conservatives by the elitists in the GOP who are now fashioning themselves after the Democrats.
If conservatives don't start rallying around genuine conservative leaders and tackling tough issues like race-baiting and expanding socialism, we are going to be in for a tough time in 2010 and 2012.
Letting pantywaist liberals and moderate Republicans pile on with false charges of racism and intolerance is perpetuating the problems we already have and will only further restrict the dialogue that we need to engage in.
The leftists and black community leaders need to take a look at their own house and how their pursuit of "equality" though affirmative action, welfare programs, socialistic government expansion, and political correctness have led to an isolation of the black community in America, not the desired integration that they purportedly seek.
Conservatism, with it's roots in individual responsibility, individual rights granted by God, and personal freedom empowers individuals to achieve their pursuits and attain happiness no matter their race, color, sex, or social status.
If we will accept that as the truth and share it with others without apology, we can finally move our ONE American culture in the right direction.

All I know about this tape is what I'm reading on here. I heard something on Fox, too. It sounds like Mr. Saltsman trusted the ones he sent this to. So who was the one who betrayed him? Or how did the media get this info? I think that, if he didn't know it before this, he knows now that you can't trust anyone in Politics. But like I said all I know is what I've heard or read so I maybe wrong. It is so hurtful when you find out someone you trust isn't one you can trust. I just can't understand why no one is asking who gave out this info? If the media twisted what was said then that person could set it straight.
I feel sorry for Mr. Saltsman but he needs to understand who he is dealing with. Satan is a deceiver, killer, thief, and liar. He will use anyone or group who will let him to do his work too. We need to pray for those who has come out against Mr Saltsman too. These people don't know the first think about what the Lord says about what they are doing.
God bless!

Perhaps if you actually know the lyrics of the "negro" song, then it becomes OK.
But as the old saying goes, "In politics, perception IS reality."
All the public has to hear is "Saltsman sent the RNC members a song about Obama being a magic negro."
That's all it takes. Most ordinary Americans are NOT going to dig any deeper. They are offended, and that's that.
As a career political hack, Chip should have known VERY well how this would be perceived by the media and by ordinary Americans.
Whether or not the content of the song is, in fact, offensive really doesn't matter, because the damage (to the GOP, to Mike Huckabee) is done as soon as the song's title is named.
And, even if the song isn't offensive, some Americans were hurt and offended anyway... so Chip should have apologized. Period. But now it's probably too late. The horses have escaped the barn.
It was mentioned again tonight on Fox News' "Special Report with Brit Hume."

Maxine: My mother argues with me all the time and wins, but she plays with house money.
I hope everyone takes note of your example, and of course I agree that you did the best thing by apologizing, even though it was not your fault. However, there are several ways in which I feel the situation with Chip is different.
1. Even though the e-mail you forwarded offended someone who was not an intended recipient, this was by mistake and not because of an intentional campaign by some third party to lie about what you had sent and make hypocritical attacks on you to prevent you from getting his job. If that had been the case, you would have been under no obligation to apologize.
2. Your friend's brother was offended by the actual e-mail you forwarded, not by some lying story about it. In Chip’s case, most of the people who are offended do not even know what the song is about; even fewer actually listened to the CD. They were offended by the media's portrayal of the situation, which was full of misrepresentations and outright lies. This would be like if your friend's brother took offense because some malicious third-party had looked over your friend’s shoulder and then gone around saying “Maxine sent an e-mail that implies all Democrats are atheists and are going to hell,” (which is a lie). Once again, no one should demand that you apologize in this situation.
3. I agree with you that it is a good general policy to go the extra mile and apologize whenever your action has contributed to hurting someone, even if it was unintentional and not your fault. For this reason you may be right that, in spite of the points I made above, Chip should bend over backwards and issue some sort of apology just to smooth things over. However, that is Chip’s business. No one in the party, and certainly not supporters of Governor Huckabee, should be assisting in the propaganda campaign against Chip by demanding any action of him whatsoever. Instead, we should demand honest journalism by the media and clean competition by his RNC rivals. Even if Chip has made a mistake, the big issue here is journalistic slander and RNC corruption.
I tried to make a similar argument during the Jeremiah Wright flap, even though I wanted Obama to lose. The big issue at the time should have been the unfairness of guilt by association and the danger of the media making every candidate responsible for the views of any religious figure he had contact with, thus making it impossible for people of faith to participate in the political process. Even though Obama had at the very least shown bad judgment, this was not worth mentioning compared to the danger of the secular media forcing every candidate to disown all prior religious associations to avoid being made responsible for every error and slip of the tongue by any religious figure who had endorsed him.
As supporters of Mike Huckabee, we should have focused on the big issues in this situation and cut Chip some slack. As a whole, we failed miserably, but that's because most of us were deceived too.

I'm sorry, but I have got to say it. To those of you who are not accepting Barack Obama as our next POTUS, enough already. I grew up with my grandma teaching me that you always respect the President but you don't always have to agree with him.
Also, here's how it goes. Chip Saltsman made a decision, Governor Huckabee responded, and now we move on. That last I checked both Huckabee and Saltsman still support the issues that we are fight for here and that is why there are two new blog posts after this one. It is a signal to march forward.
Now, let's move on and get busy.

I think the finger waggers need to take a good long look in the mirror, because the only way they could find fault is by being woefully unaware of the actual content of the song, among other things.
This is a manufactured issue, and shame on all the people from the top down who are calling for Chip to fall on his sword.
I am sick to death of pre-fab tilt-up scandals and I frankly am to the point now that I don't want to support people who fall for it.

I've been troubled about this incident for the past two days, but mostly because I am concerned about how we are reacting to it. In addition to the numerous posts here, there are about 200 over at Huck's Army, many of them calling for Governor Huckabee to "do something".
While I can agree that the CD sent by Chip Saltsman might not have been a well considered move, I fail to see why we are spending so much energy here commenting on it. Chip Saltsman has a web page: purl=http://www.chipsaltsman.com]Chip Saltsman for RNC Chair[/url]. If we want Chip to know how we feel, we could go to that page and post on his blog. Or if we want to contact him directly, we could use the contact link on his Contact Page.
Part of the reason this is so troubling to me is that we are not taking action in a way that would get our concerns answered. And many of us are worried about how this will affect Governor Huckabee, yet we are dragging him into it with our posts on these blogs.
The Biblical way to deal with such a situation is to go to the person directly, and I urge everyone to do that. Let's get this resolved and move on.

Thanks Huckabee, for that dose of reason and sanity on the whole Saltsman deal. I think it's ridiculous that people are ready to pull endorsements over this.
I must say, though, that I disagree with your statment that Obama was elected indifferently of his race. Actually, I think he was elected *because* of his race and his "rock star" image. Ask all the people who voted for him *why* they voted for him and what he stands for -- they don't know.

Regarding the Paul Shankin CD and Chip sending this out this past Christmas, he should apologize and then blame Rush Limbuagh for the idea of this CD, as Rush plays these songs over and over.
We should remember that it was Rush, Sean, Coulter, Hugh Hewitt (who I especially despise), Savage and others for running down Mike Huckabee last year and then promoting Romney who was a very flawed candidate. By these actions, Mike H. and Romney canceled one another and Mccain was allowed to come to the fore and get the nomination - who was also a very flawed and weak candidate.
We do not owe anything to these talk show hosts as their number one priority is to make money for themselves and secondarily, to provide conservative viewpoints that we can listen to, as we choose, and take what we want from these commentaries.
Since they were so divisive last year, I remember emailing Mike Duncan at the RNC and expressing my dissatisfaction with the conservative "talking heads" taking shots at Mike Huckabee. I never received any response (not that I expected to).
In summary, Republicans and conversatives have lost a lot of seats the last two election cycles and Mike Duncan needs to go! He is disorganized, he has no vision and he's not good for the party.

Have you talked to Lou Dobbs on CNN. He's the only one that has had the guts to speak about the UNAN, illegal migrants and etc. Until he spoke on the UNAN I didn't know what to believe. I haven't heard Fox say anything about it. The media isn't telling us about these things and it's very hard to know what is real and what isn't. It's dangerous because we are to the place that if they really needed us to respond about something we don't know what to believe. Now I'm not saying I totally believe any of the media but because he has at least told us about the UNAN I trust him more then those who aren't. Ben,
I can't believe that I'm actually attempting to debate with you on this. (cause I know I can't win)
However, you have presented the opportunity for such when you gave the example of an offensive email--yes, I am guilty of that mistake.
A few days ago, I sent my friend an email that had been forwarded to me in which a contrast was made between democrats and republicans--A happy holidays greeting was given to the democrat, and merry christmas to the republicans. Of course the greeting for the democrat contained an elaborate description that I did not read all that closely.
Nevertheless, I thought this was very funny, and hit the forward button, and somehow this email was intercepted by my friend's brother--a very strong democrat.
Now you can only imagine the wrath I received from him in his reply. Also, this was causing discord among my friend's family members. To make a long story short, I had no intentions whatsoever of hurting my friend's brother, and I tried to justify my reasons for sending the email--I knew my friend would think this was funny, and it was to her, but not to her brother.
This all took place as this story was unfolding, so I took my advice that I had given in a comment here, and hit the reply button to my friend's brother whom I had never met, and told him I was so sorry that he was hurt--that had never been my intentions.
In my opinion, Mr. Saltsman needs to do the same as many people have hurt by his actions even though they were not intended.

Do we or Do we Not want a President that is Eligible according to The Constitution? Each one of us has to answer this question!
++++"Open letter to Member of Congress
URGENT REQUEST FOR ACTION – TO PRESERVE OUR CONSTITUTION
Dear Member of the U.S. Congress; On January 8th, 2009, you will be meeting in a joint session of Congress in order to perform the final step of COUNTING and CONFIRMING the electoral votes for the President of the United States (POTUS).
This urgent letter is a request by your (and Mr. Obama’s) employers, We The People, for you to submit an OBJECTION to those votes being counted due to the Constitutional INELIGIBILITY of Barack Hussein Obama, Jr. to serve as POTUS:
1. No proof that he was born on U.S. sovereign territory, as required by Article II of the U.S. Constitution (the posting of his forged & fraudulent Certification of Live Birth (C.O.L.B.) only proves fraud – and that he’s INELIGIBLE;
2. No proof that he ever applied for U.S. citizenship, when reaching the age of majority, following his years as a citizen of Indonesia (this would make him ‘naturalized’, and therefore INELIGIBLE);
3. No proof that he was born of two parents of U.S. citizenship, with both owing allegiance to and being under the jurisdiction of the U.S., as required by law and/or the Constitution, in order to be a ‘natural-born citizen’. (actually he has freely admitted the opposite to be true, and therefore INELIGIBLE);
4. No proof that he was authorized, as a ‘natural-born U.S. citizen’ with a U.S. Passport, to travel to Pakistan in 1981 (he could not by law), or that he re-applied for ‘naturalized’ U.S. citizenship on his return, which would also make him INELIGIBLE;
5. No certified proof that he registered for the draft/Selective Service between the ages of 18 and 26, as required by law, thereby rendering him ineligible, by law, for employment in the Executive Branch of our government, and therefore INELIGIBLE for POTUS. 6. No proof that he is, in fact, not an illegal alien, and therefore subject to the same penalties that would befall all illegal aliens in his situation. Therefore, INELIGIBLE;
Constructive Knowledge would inform and confirm to all who have examined the facts of this collossal fraud being perpetrated upon We The People of America (see www.DrOrly.Blogspot.com – ‘Open Letter to C.J. Therefore, we are calling on you, as a member of Congress, sworn to uphold, protect, and defend that Constitution, to OBJECT to the counting and confirmation of those electoral votes until proof of his eligibility or ineligibility can be determined, and to call for indictments in regard to any and all alleged violations of U.S. laws and one’s sworn oath.

Linda, Deborah, John, Randy, Juliee, etc.:
A few more thoughts:
For those who believe that this represents a critical lapse in judgment by Chip Saltsman, let me say that I think every political insider jokes around with his peers in ways that could be easily misunderstood by outsiders, just as lawyers or doctors or people of any other profession joke amongst themselves about their work. The media wants you to believe that Chip Saltsman woke up one morning and decided out of the blue to engage in a sudden and unprecedented campaign to distribute racist material. In fact, the situation is more like a person’s job application being rejected because he forwarded an e-mail containing a joke that was not even offensive when properly understood.
This whole race for RNC chair reminds me of some cheap science fiction series in which a new character is introduced whose presence is obviously incompatible with the future direction of the series. You know the character will be killed off, you just don't know how. The minute Chip Saltsman declared for RNC chair, I knew he would be killed off because of his association with Mike Huckabee. I knew that Huckabee’s well-funded enemies would recognize Chip as a threat to their interests, and I knew that most of Huckabee's honest and well-intended supporters would be too ignorant of Chip’s importance to properly support him or defend him when the inevitable attacks came.
It would be racist of me to tolerate the idea that black people should be expected and encouraged to go off like firecrackers whenever they hear a certain word (such as “negro”), without exercising the universal human responsibility to think about what the word means in the context in which it is being used. Blacks who are automatically offended after reading the media portrayal of this story without bothering to figure out exactly what the song says, why it was written, and what it means, are merely fools who happen to be black, just as the majority of the incredibly uninformed citizens of this country are fools who happen to be white.
I had not actually listened to this song until a few days ago because I despise Rush Limbaugh and never listen to his program. I found the song to be very poorly written, and I must say that in my opinion it reflects badly on Chip’s poetic taste. However, it could not be honestly construed as racist by anyone who passed sixth grade and it implies nothing whatever about Chip’s character or ability to perform as RNC chair.
For those who cite the biblical argument against causing one's brother to stumble, let me offer the opinion that that teaching places responsibility upon a person for what he actually does, not for anyone's lying story about him. Besides, the passage refers to a public action that might confuse the less knowledgeable, not something done among insiders which was dishonestly made into a public issue for malicious purposes.
As an exercise, let's imagine what the headlines would have been if Mike Huckabee had reacted to this in various ways:
1. Huckabee strongly defends Saltsman. Headline: “Former pastor Huckabee defends racist ally.”
2. Huckabee condemns Saltsman. Headline: “Huckabee forced to disown racist associate.”
3. Huckabee issues no response (because he is on vacation). Headline: “Huckabee refuses to drop endorsement of racist RNC hopeful.”
We’re caught between the Devil and the deep blue sea.

All-in-for-Mike: You write,
"I confess, I don't have time or energy to work through the subtleties of how or why the song and the CD are somehow "not" offensive. But you know what? Neither do 99.99% of Americans, either."
You are absolutely right. The genius of this attack is that almost any fair person would feel compelled to condemn Chip based on a casual reading of the story. The media hit a home run here.
But that home run was enabled by years of conditioning us to respond instinctively to certain words just like Pavlov's dogs responded to the bell by drooling.
The problem is BURDEN OF PROOF. When you mention "the subtleties of how or why the song and the CD are somehow "not" offensive" you are operating on the paradigm that anything which mentions race should automatically be assumed offensive. In other words, anyone who uses certain words is guilty until proven innocent, regardless of the meaning. It should be the other way around. Those who think the song offensive have the should have the responsibility to explain why. Any such explanation would not hold up.

This lapse in judgment couldn’t have come at a worse time. With perception being reality a lot of times there are 66+ million people in America that seem to disagree with the Republican party and what it stands for; and this stunt is yet another black eye.
Chip needed to keep in mind that people in a position of leadership; or even running for leadership are judged to a different standard then those in the media whose job it is to entertain and inform the masses; and satire said leaders.
Is Chip a racists; I’m sure he’s not and I’m sure he doesn’t disparage others; but the question in my and others mind is…why? Of all the things he could have sent out; why this CD; sure like he said:
“I think that RNC members have the good humor and good sense to recognize that the songs for the Rush Limbaugh show are light-hearted political parodies”
But the RNC is 66+ million strong; this was bad judgment.

Governor Huckabee, if Obama was elected with complete indifference to race, then why should we celebrate it? Shouldn't we just treat it like any other election? I think it is a historic election, because it is the first one in which constitutional qualification has been flung to the wind! Obama got elected because of his race, and I'm so disappointing at hearing this politically correct pandering coming from you.
But to the point, I think it is ridiculous for people to get their noses out of joint over this CD that Chip Saltsman sent out. Perhaps it was poor judgment, but it is only because people are too stuck up to appreciate truly humorous political satire. The CD is not to make fun of any one person or any group of people, but of their platform and what they stand for. Governor, you yourself know that humor often is the most effective tool to make a point. So folks need to just GET OVER IT!

My previous blog did not go into enough detail of what I found in Wikipedia. I shortened it for the sake of space. I referred back again to it and found it even more enlightening. Go to Wikipedia yourself and read it all.

Growing up and attending school in the mid 30's and 40's, I attended school with many people of color(another term). The term negro was used then. Nobody that I know was offended by that. I do question the term African American, unless you actually came from Africa personally (not just your ancestors). How many of us with German, English, Irish etc. etc. ancestry refer to our selves with a hyphenated term? I decided to look up the word negro in Wikipedia and the following is their writing about the use of the word:
"Negro is a term referring to people of Black African ancestry. Prior to the shift in the lexicon of American and worldwide classification of race and ethnicity in the late 1960s, the appellation was accepted as a normal neutral formal term both by those of Black African descent as well as non-African blacks. Now it is often considered an ethnic slur[1][2][3] although the term is considered archaic and is not common as a racist slur. The term is still used in some contexts for historical reasons such as in the name of the United Negro College Fund[4][5]. "Negro" means "black" in Spanish, Portuguese, and ancient Italian[6] - all of which derive from the Latin niger (i.e. "black")."
I hope this eases some of the tension given to the use of the word "Negro". It was never a bad word in my day, and I could never figure out why it is offensive today. Cultural changes take place as you can read in the above quotes.

This is an interesting article about Kenneth Blackwell's full support for Chip. Mr. Blackwell as you know is an African-American in the run also for chairman of the RNC.
Here is some of the excerpts or just go to the following link for the full story.

'Magic Negro' flap might help Saltsman bid
by Politico.com
Tuesday December 30, 2008, 4:31 AM
The controversy surrounding a comedy CD distributed by Republican National Committee chair candidate Chip Saltsman has not torpedoed his bid and might have inadvertently helped it.The day after the story was first reported by The Hill, RNC Chairman Mike Duncan issued a statement expressing disgust over the song.
“The 2008 election was a wake-up call for Republicans to reach out and bring more people into our party,” said Duncan, who is seeking reelection to his post. “I am shocked and appalled that anyone would think this is appropriate as it clearly does not move us in the right direction.”
Duncan was joined by Michigan GOP Chair Saul Anuzis, another RNC chair aspirant who chided Saltsman for sending out the CD.
North Dakota Republican Party Chairman Gary Emineth said he was “disappointed” when he heard about the story and questioned Saltsman’s viability as a candidate going forward.
“There are a lot of things about Chip that would have made a good a RNC chairman, but this has definitely hurt him,” he said in an interview with Politico. “With less than a month to go Chip needs to be talking about where he wants to lead the party and he is not going to get that opportunity.”
Not everyone is so sure, with some RNC members contending that Anuzis and Duncan may have actually hurt their candidacies with their responses.
“Those are two guys who just eliminated themselves from this race for jumping all over Chip on this,” one committee member told Politico. “Mike Duncan is a nice guy, but he screwed up big time by pandering to the national press on this.”
While South Carolina GOP Chair Katon Dawson and former Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele have decided to stay away from the controversy, offering no comment, former Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell, who would be the party’s first black chairman, has drawn notice for his vigorous defense of Saltsman.
“Unfortunately, there is hypersensitivity in the press regarding matters of race. This is in large measure due to President-Elect Obama being the first African-American elected president,” Blackwell said in a statement. “I don't think any of the concerns that have been expressed in the media about any of the other candidates for RNC chairman should disqualify them. When looked at in the proper context, these concerns are minimal. All of my competitors for this leadership post are fine people.”
As a result of his position, a source close to the race said that at least 12 uncommitted committee members have contacted Blackwell to thank him for his support for Saltsman and have expressed anger toward Duncan and Anuzis “for throwing a good Republican under the bus.”
Indeed, in a fluid race in which six candidates are vying for the votes of 168 members, both Blackwell and Saltsman stand to benefit from a backlash to the flap.
Most observers expect Duncan to lead after the first ballot, but few expect he or any other candidate will be able to secure election on a first ballot. For either Saltsman or Blackwell to win election they will likely need the votes of the other’s supporters to break in their direction, along with any other committee members who are not enamored of Duncan’s leadership.
In calls to committee members in recent days, both Saltsman and Blackwell have been reminding Republicans of how both Duncan and Anuzis reacted to the story.
“I wasn’t angered by what Mike had said, it was just revealing to me how each one responded,” said Ellis of Maine, who as an uncommitted member received calls from all six candidates Monday. “Their responses were kind of a surprise to me because I saw it as something that was not an issue, something that was manufactured from outside the committee.”

Everyone,
We shouldn't judge Chip because we don't know him. Mike knows him more than any of us. We all do stupid things. Through the campaign some liberal blogs called Mike a Religious Bigot who will place a steeple on the white house but no one was outraged. I know we shouldn't compare the two, but it has to do with what we know of people. We all know Mike wasn't a religous bigot but people took his statements and made him look like one.

Mike,
I hope this doesn't hope your future campaign in 2012. The Dems will associate you with Chip and label you a racist (even we know that Chip and you aren't). That is politics. YOU need to show in the next 3 years that you are not one. The black conservative group held a press conference stating that you should not pull out after it looked like John McCain got the nomination. They know the truth and we know the truth but the Dems will play the same game that the GOP elite did (Hannity and Rush) and associated Obama will people. I know Chip isn't a racist and he probably sent the CD out at at an impulse. This is too bad for him. It will probably take a long time to fix his career. I'll be praying for him.

Maxine, thank you for your e-mail!
Yes, Governor, I promise to join with you in prayerful support of the president the liberal news media chose for us.
I haven't heard the song, but per the posts here, I imagine it does poke fun at stereotypical thinking rather than at people of any specific race or bent gender.
Nevertheless, Mr Salzman's thinking failed him. Do you guys remember a few years ago when HEADS ROLLED because someone in public correctly used the word "niggardly"? Anyone in public office or seeking office has to be aware that any comment will be exposed to a public which consistently fails to use any vestigial critical faculties they may possess. The vast majority will swallow without question the meaning the media assigns to the item based on whatever fragments the media may find useful.
Mr. Salzman must have known that.
An apology from Mr. Salzman, even in the classic sense (apo + logos) of an explanation of his innocence, is in order. Governor Huckabee has demonstrated how to handle that--if Mr. Salzman sees no racist implications in his gift, then follow Governor Huckabee's lead as he explained that the floating cross was merely a bookshelf in the spotlight. If he does upon reflection see some offense in the song, he can follow Governor Huckabee's lead as he apologized for an ill-considered off-the-cuff joke during the campaign. We need some words from Mr. Salzman about the matter.
I'm proud of Governor Huckabee for his loyalty to his campaign manager. I expect no less from a man of his integrity.

Bolinger, Veronica,
You know, it would be easy for me to say I know how you feel, but the truth is, I don't because I am a white American, however, I did get a taste of racism in big doses from pastor Wright for which he never apologized.
Having said that, I am aware that pastor Wright does not speak for everyone who is from the other party or the other race.
I would like to persuade you as a fellow Huckabee supporter to understand that Gov. Huckabee is a man of class as well as integrity, and that he is in a very difficult position right now--this could be a no win situation, and this particular problem may require a little time for him to work through.
My particular problem that I have with Mr. Saltsman is not what he did, ( because we all make bad calls sometimes) but what he hasn't done. If he is not willing to admit this error in judgement, and apoligize, (and it is also hard sometimes to do that) then that is what I consider to be a problem for any public leader.
Regardless of what your decision may be as for as your party of choice, I am glad that you posted her, and I enjoyed reading your comments as you have made some excellent points.

***Ben Dribus, Julie4Huckabee, Randy Davis***, I fully understand the Obama parody song and agree with your position, yet find this Shanklin clown undeserving of any free publicity this flap has given him. He is nothing more than a Limbaugh toadie and is virtually unknown outside Rush's circle. Having said that, this proves there is a plethora of mental midgets in this great republic that are being further stupefied by the MSM's. How do you think Obama got elected? How is it that McCain was his opponent? Superior candidates like Gov. Huckabee were ignored and ridiculed by the MSM's which registered with this massive flock of "sheeple" to coin Michael Savage. This episode will no doubt be filed away, only to be resurrected when Gov. Huckabee begins his 2012 run. The best move for Chip Saltsman at this juncture is to make a heartfelt public apology and take this out of the hands of Jon Stewart, Leno, Letterman and the MSM pack of bottom feeders.

I'm at AWE !!! :O !!! Ahhhhhh .... hh .. I can't believe this!
I might not appreciate African American Culture, but I will NEVER receive or give any gift that names the other race NEGRO's !!
Ask ourserlves: what good does it do? Does it help the other race or ourselves? Does it HELP the African Americans to be better people? The answer is NO, NO, NO !!!
If Chip ever thinks like that, I think he really should repent between himself and God. Apology to the world is not good enough, I really wants him to repent and think like Christ! If he didn't , I cannot and would not support him!
I agree with everything Mike said in his message here! And I have always trusted Mike!

Chip blew it!
Satire is for the media, and late night comics, not political operatives. This is inexcusable, politically speaking that is, and shows bad judgment.
Republicans have a bad image as it is. Why make it worse. Chip should definitely not be elected chair of the RNC.
I can guarantee you one thing. If Mike runs in 2012 and Chip is anywhere near his campaign, this thing will be hung on Mike's neck like an albatross. Politics is a game of guilt by association. Chip should know that...
