Lipstick On A Pig

Last night, while on Hannity & Colmes I cut Barack Obama some slack on his reference to "lipstick on a pig." Now I personally don't think he was referring to Gov. Palin, but if he was he should apologize immediately.

Almost twenty four hours into this new controversy and the accusations are continuing to fly from both campaigns. That's too bad.

Let's shift back to the issues. Barack Obama released an education proposal yesterday that has plenty of faults. Lets talk about it instead. Republicans have been arguing correctly for choice in our schools and adding accountability. Lets spend our time and energy focusing on what we stand for.  There is plenty to talk about.

Where is the discussion on the continuing rise of healthcare costs in the nation? These costs are crippling families and combined with the high cost of gasoline, making it almost impossible for working class families to save, with many pushed further into debt as they struggle just to get by.

Republicans should be trumpeting our openness to drill, conserve and use alternative sources of energy.

Republicans should promote our focus on preventative care to help cut health care costs in the long term. We need to advocate policies that will encourage the private sector to seek innovative ways to bring down costs and improve the free market for health care services. We have to change a system that happily pays $30,000 for a diabetic to have his foot amputated, but won't pay for the shoes that would save his foot.

Republicans know we can make health care more affordable by reforming medical liability; adopting electronic record keeping; making health insurance more portable from one job to another; expanding health savings accounts to everyone, not just those with high deductibles; and making health insurance tax deductible for individuals and families as it now is for businesses. Low income families would get tax credits instead of deductions. We don't need all the government controls that would inevitably come with universal health care.

A return to the issues is what the American people expect and it is a mistake to think that our Republican ideas somehow can't compete with the Democrats. And frankly, if anyone tells you otherwise, that dog won't hunt.

I am curious if anybody has listened to Ralph Nader? I have in past races and blew him off because I knew he just did not stand a chance , and I am sure that will be the case during this election.

McCain has three of the biggest opportunities given to him which he is simply not taking advantage of:

    1. The root causes of the wall street meltdown and the democrat's culpability as detailed in the Fox Special: " Saving Our Economy: What's Next"

    2. The $700 billion going to foreign countries to buy oil, a huge part of which can stay here if drilling is done in Anwar, offshore and the Rockies. Imagine the jobs and wealth that can be created with this, not to mention the huge plus for national security and that 75% of the public supports drilling.

    3. Barak Obama's class warfare rhetoric and wanting to tax business more - small and big - when it is they who create the jobs that fuels the economy.

I don't worry for Obama's comment. If he meant it, he's making fun of a child of God (Gov. Palin) and the bad comment will turn to him (Obama). I know God is taking care of HIS Children.

Voice of Moderation: Yes, Sean Hannity lost a lot of credibility in my book after his little stunt in this election. You would be right to take what he says with a grain of salt--or any journalists for that matter. DYOR is the primary rule that I follow. Do Your Own Research.

With that being said, the story about Obama is true--the document is on display on many websites. (I believe Alan4Huck provided a link on one of the posts.) So in this instance Hannity was correct.

It seems that you were a little angry with me--maybe my Karl Rove post? It was a little harsh, so I'm sorry if I offended you. I do have to ask you a question though, and I would like you to answer me honestly: Are you an Obama supporter? If you are not, then disregard the next comments. It is possible that we may have misjudged you.

It is evivdent that many on this site are Obama supporters and are trying trying to interject their views and sway our opinions by pretending to be Huckabee supporters. This method will not work as most on this site are intelligent enough to discern who is who. A better approach would be to admit who you are and interject your views in a straightforward manner. This will obviously inspire some passionate and heart felt debate, but you should be OK, we know that you are at a site that doesn't espouse your views, and I think most can respect the level of courage that this takes, but this current approach is not working. We are more apt to skim the "fake" posts and not take them seriously. A more straight forward approach would be more appreciated.

RE: :Of a University:, Daytona Beach

On you revelation that there are so many simple people in the U.S. Are they simple or just plain ignorant? And if they are ignorant does that mean that the U.S. education system has failed them? or the idea that has been instilled that we do not have to be accountable ? It is generational at this point, and there are many factors that contribute to this. Ignorance is bred at this point , and for the lucky ones their only saving grace is that they have been given a strong foundation in what it means to be faithful to our Lord Jesus Christ. For the others they will forever remain as products reliant always on our Government Assistance. To be able to carry on a simple way of life and still be productive to society is a gift from God. BUT to remain in a state of ignorance for generations? is that a gift from our wonderful government or the Devil. We are blessed to be free to choose , but if our kids grow up ignorant, how can they make a rational choice?

  • "Of a University", Daytona Beach

    09/20/2008 04:58 PM

As I post this I am listening to Barack Obama in Daytona Beach--this morning's speech---
He is pandering to Women and the American way---as in Veterans and Family too.

He said some dumb things like inferring that men don't have to worry about gas prices.

He is singing "I'm every women." now about his wife.

He is hitting the hearts of naive women everywhere who wont look into his wage discrepancies for women.

    He keeps repeating/yelling:

"I AM RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES !"--like that is news.

Talking about Wall Street --Monday's news--(hey, this is Saturday Ba rack).

He is so obviously fake !---a real Master of Ceremony.

I never knew we had so many simple people here in USA.

All rhetoric and Using copied Huckisms (no offense, Huck)...

Can't they see that he is talking down to them ?

He just stated McCain wants to blame him for the economic problems.

He also said McCain is assigning responsibility for all of Washington's economic problems onto him.

Now he said McCain will "do anything"...

He is using the 'fundamentals of our economy are strong' (Recent McCain quote...McCain does need to clarify that line---It is a 'downer')...

Now Obama is using rhetoric of Mainstreeet vs. Wallstreet ( good line )

    They are all booing McCain.

He is bringing up McCain's Lobbyists---well, touche.

(Yet no one in the small Daytona audience of 1,500 (estimate) read yesterdays paper about how Barack Obama had no economic plan to offer.)

Here comes the "open wound"--it's the McCain lobbyists !

He said the "good ole boys" network in Washington is a McCain staffers meeting (he has a point).

(Huckabee against Obama---Now THAT would have been an election. TIME TO REVEAL HOW MUCH B.H.O. PAYS WOMEN COMPARED TO MEN ON HIS
    PAYROLL !)

SARAH PALIN IS A WOMEN...HE IS SAYING.."AND I COULD HAVE HAD A HILLARY"

He is preaching pro-abortion now--based on women know best--and judges who are pro abortion...I am sickened. (Not as many applause as he expected)

[ We wiped out a whole generation of people...that old rape and incest "line" is a farce. A billion dollar baby killing business (planned parenthood) and he talks about rape and incest ! ]

He is now talking about Joe Biden's violence against women act--saying McCain voted against it (did he?)

Now the 95 % bit--(Talk about soundingng like something it isn't to the generally misinformed public)---250,000 drawline.

[ Like Mr. Huckabee said: this will hit many small biz owners.]

Now he is Blaming Republicans for Congress's sins now...blah. blah.

[To Obama's credit he is talking issues...But he sounds like such a showboat imposter.]
    -----------------------------------------

    Floridian
    Summary:

Sarah Palin made him sweat...he may seem like he's holding his head together, but he's going nuts deep down Has no felt this much campaign pressure since he first started out as an unknown against Hillary,

    O-uch.

when the state of the Union is cruising along with little non-threatening bumps in the road, there seems little reason to agree on issues that could take the bumps out and make it a smooth ride. BUT as soon as a major pothole is in the path, a major mountain that can be the result of these elected officials arises , bi-partisanship is easily attained ....... ??????????? And I have yet to hear any good discussion on how to solve our so called war on DRUGS. Hears one for you,, while in the drugstore on Thursday to get a prescription filled, a line formed due to a influx of customers. A conversation began , and a young 21 yr. old man told freely with no hesitation, his ideas on pain pills. He said he liked several different ones but that oxycodon was his favorite... I told him that it could be highly addictive, which did not seem to be a concern. He said he had pain in his Knees, ???

What do we do with this? intervention is one thing but Professionals that make this stuff readily available to the ignorant in the world
should be considered drug pushers in my book.

At a rally Blaine, Minnesota, McCain seized on Obama's failure to offer a plan. "This morning I laid out my plan to solve these problems and grow our economy. About the same time Sen. Obama said he isn't going to offer a plan," McCain said.

Obama supported efforts by the Fed and the Treasury to work out a financial rescue package and said he would like to
see the government adopt an emergency economic plan to help working families cope with rising gasoline and food prices.

Asked why he was not offering a plan of his own to address Wall Street's meltdown, Obama told reporters

it has to be done in an

    "intelligent, systematic, thoughtful fashion."

Dear Voice of Moderation: You're absolutely right--the taxpayer pays for much of the research that goes into developing new drugs. In most research grants, the government reserves the right to use the patents from the research "royalty free." That does not mean much, however, as the government still has to pay "market price" for the item discovered on the taxpayer's dollar.

But you're wrong that we pay for the drug twice. We actually pay for it THREE TIMES. We pay for the research. We pay outrageous prices for the drugs when we buy them. THEN, we pay for the cost of those drugs that are given to people on welfare and social security. Minimally, the government should require these companies to make the drugs available to the indigent and senior citizens at cost plus 10%. This is ridiculous.

Many thanks to The Voice Of Moderation. We are very blessed to be in this wonderful country, and I have heard that from so many who have lived elsewhere on this great big blue ball that God has given to us to be stewards of. As with all of human history , those with power always screw it up. But they always have a way to wash there hands of the matter, as did Pilate. The "If you scratch my back I will scratch yours" design of of our government holds our leaders accountable only to the next leader . I do believe thats where we are with most of the detrimental crises that plague this country. No real solutions can be resolved due the fact that somebody down the line won't get theirs. Lead by example , RIGHT?????? Thanks again

In Re: to john hobson's question.

My opinion is that pharmaceutical companies are the most dominant and powerful lobbies in D.C. to ever make Rx drugs a real issue. Ever wonder why Medicare Part D does not even allow a negotiation process to bring down the cost by volume contracts? According to a Senior VP of Blue Cross, at a conference I had attended, 40% of all new pharmaceutical research is funded by the federal government, but the law was passed in 1996 by a Republican Congress and signed by a Democratic President to give exclusive monopoly rights to the pharmaceutical companies using taxpayer funds for any new discoveries funded by taxpayers, rather than making it available to competing companies. The notion of the free competitive market is undermined by both parties - we taxpayers pay twice for new drugs, once for the research and then for the outlandish prices when it hits the market - it's the worst of both worlds of socialism and capitalism with corporations sharing the profits of the monopoly capitalism and taxpayers paying the costs of the research.

I think he entered the Presidential Race TOO early, he needs to mature and get more experience before running America. It seems he cannot even lead his wife, so what makes us think he can lead us? He should have waited 8 or more years before coming forth. McCain has shown America that he is mature and will do what is right for his ticket and America. My #1 concern for our country is NATIONAL SECURITY. Venezuela purchased nuclear warheads and military jets from Russia to fight against us. Chavez Hugo urged his neighbor countries, especially, Cuba to follow his actions. Today, we buy ~30% Oil from Venezuela. Russia will isolate us if they have their controls over South America, Cuba and North Pole. We must have our off-shore drillings and renewable energies as soon as possible. We need to meet with NATO and China regularly to strength our relathionships.
EDUCATION - School choice, accountability and parents responsibility are important factors for our education system. Why top Universities in the nation accepted many students from other countries and rejected many good students graduated from US high school? in addition, large number of graduate students in our top universities are foreigners (are we transfer our technology to other country and they use it to against us?). In my family case, my son was rejected all 7 Ivy League universities. He graduated top 7 from #1 rank high school in the nation, striked several perfect scores on SAT I, SAT II, ACT, IB test, Michigan Merit Exam, National Merit Scholar, Math Olympia etc. At 7 grade, his SAT score was higher than Al Gore, John Kerry, George Bush at college bounce level. How can we tell our children work harder and to become a good citizen when they see this kind of unfair standard? In Michigan, our income decrease and tuition cost increased every year from 6-8%.
TAX - as you discuss during your campaign, we need rehaul our tax system. Every American afraid of IRS. Middle class suffers the most. Large number of middle class bankruptcy because of current tax system.

  • Goff, Steve

    09/13/2008 08:55 PM

    Suzy Griswold:

Sean Hannity exposed Barack Obama's sex education plan on his program on Friday I believe. The mainstream media was lying when the said it was solely "predator awareness." (I sat and watched Katie Curic tell a bold faced lie on national television two nights before and was fuming when I found out about the deception.) Hannity had the copy of the legislation that Obama supported. According to Hannity, the legislation had "age appropriate" education for children ages 5 to 8. (Pardon the next piece, but I feel that it must be known) The education included in depth information about genitals, masturbation, vaginal intercourse, and homosexual couples. The legislation failed. This is all according to Sean Hannity. (I haven't personally seen the copy of the document myself. Hannity would be wise to produce it on his program and post it on his website for all to read. This will have the same polarizing effect that the videos of Jeremiah Wright had on the general public.)

Why would the Barack Obama want to sexualize our children? The answer is pretty evident. By sexualizing our children from a young age the liberals won't have to worry about any resistance to their radical agendas once they reach adulthood. By teaching them that homosexuality (to include gay marriage) is normal, they will meet no resistance twenty years down the road. Similar methods are used in the Middle East where radical governments use cartoons and children’s programs to teach anti-Semitism, anti-Americanism, and terroristic martyrdom.

I am not saying that Obama and the liberal’s methods are as extreme as Iran’s; I am just making the connections between the similarities of their methods in trying to subvert our children's minds from a very young and impressionable age. This is brainwashing. It is agenda driven propaganda, and it is aimed at our children. There is a reason that this legislation failed in one of the most liberal states in the nation. This view of sex education is extremely radical. This man's attempts to sexualize our children coupled with his extreme abortion stances, make him a significant threat the children of our country.

Palin is a quick study, she will get up to speed very quickly. You notice that the Democrats are not attacking her on experience; instead they prefer to keep her off balance and focused on lipstick and hope for a gaff. While I do not believe that Obama intended to insult Paylin with the lipstick comment he knew exactly what he was saying and how the Republicans had to react; his strategy was to keep watch Palin react so they could size her up a little better.

In her first interview palin did not know what the "Bush Doctrine" was and tried to wing an answer; you can't do that in the big leagues. She should simply have said "I'll have to study that a little farther before I answer". Hopefully she learned something from the error.

McCain should focus the attention of the watching public on the complete ineffectiveness of the democrats in dealing with energy crisis and the fact that they went on vacation instead of passing an energy bill. However, many, including myself, remember that when the Republicans had the white house and both houses of congress, they were completely ineffective in getting things done, and earmarks, including republican earmarks, increased the national debt.

Our federal government is broken; I hope that McCain/Palin can do some things to fix it. If they can Paylin may become the first female president. If they can't hillary will be the democrat's candidate in 2012 the way things look today, she may be elected. Lord Help us.

    Mr. Huckabee,

I just wanted to chime in real quick about Barack's ideas for sex education. He mentioned that his motives for involving the kindergarten age group in his plan was a "good touch" vs. "bad touch"...this is fundamentally different in education then "sex education" that it would fall under.

That kind of discussion is good for the younger children -- however, that is classified as child abuse prevention education...not sex education.

These are totally at the opposite ends of the spectrum and need to be clarified.

What he is proposing is one prevention factor of child abuse tacked onto a whole curriculum of inappropriate sex education for our children....it's like a legislature passing a bill for one thing and tacking on something completely different to it that catches the rest of us off guard....the very reason we like the what the Palin / McCain ticket and what they stand for!!!

Thanks for letting us share our thoughts.

The chant of "Drill, drill, drill..." is nonsense when the oil companies spokesman says they don't have enough oil rigs to drill as it is in the leased 68 million acres already leased to them where no drilling is taking place. The cheerleaders for more drilling is just being played as a rouge to give more rights to oil companies to sit on more acres to control production and control pricing. Since the de-regulation of energy, we have seen record profits soar at record high profits. Yet, we still subsidize the oil industry with taxpayers money - amazing how we have socialism for the corporations, and have capitalism when they make profits with our taxpayer assistance.

Isn't it time that taxpayers get a break and stop bailing out corporate losers who pay their failed CEO multi-million dollar golden parachutes? Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac should not be bailed out by the Feds, which means taxpayers. Let capitalism play itself out, so we can see whether government regulation is what people desire - the results should prove interesting! It took a depression in '29 to put safeguards in, maybe we just need another one for people to learn a hard lesson from a couple of generations ago. The worst solution is unfettered capitalism with taxpayer bailouts for when companies go down, even though the concentration of wealth has been allowed to defy any implementation of the Sherman Anti-Trust Act.

I absolutely believe Obama was trying to call Sarah Palen a "P" with lipstick, then act so innocent and offended that we could think otherwise. He is a real slippery one, and watch out for more to come. Will not be pretty. I know she will rise to the occasion and help McCain to WIN THIS ELECTION, and thus start turning our country into the right direction.

I agree the issues need to be addressed, education, economy, our national security, Russia and their new homes, Columbia, Venezuela, and Iran, our energy crisis...etc. I know several candidates have used that remark before, however, I do believe Oback intentional directed this to Gov Palin. Lok at his face before he starts the face and the quick reaction of the audience. I also believe Oback's new add regarding Senator McCain can not even use email. If my memory is right Senator McCain could not if he wanted to due to physical limitations from his beatings as a POW? I do not believe he can even comb his own hair? Does America know Senator Obama could not even become a FBI agent, to guard a President, due to his past connections? How can he be President.? Gov plz continue your outstanding work. God Bless you and your family.

Sarah Palin is going to make a great VP and God forbid, president if that happens. I think she could take on anything and win. Obama is nothing more than a talking suit. He will say anything to get elected. Wasnt it she who said"it's the carabu or you"while speaking to the American People on drilling in Anwar Province? Nancy Pelosi should be recalled...this woman is out to destroy our way of life.

Don't underestimate Obama. He's the type who won't get mad, he'll just get even. After all the comments about his past, and recently being criticized for not being more aggressive, he came up with a "phrase" that was deliberately two-pronged. I am very skeptical of him.. I TRUST HIM NOT! His new type of politics is not impressive.. his past associations.. affiliations, religious tenets, political record.. If it were McCain's he wouldn't have gotten the nomination. The Libs are protecting / ignoring the handwriting on the wall.. NOBAMA for me.. He would be TERRIBLE for our economy and national defense.. HORRIBLE..

?Thanks, Gov. Mike Huckabee for your Christian Values. It's time to eliminate public schools, social and welfare programs so that America can move forward.
    ===========================================

“We the People-For the People” will work, once again, if we elect Gov. Sarah Palin! It was refreshing
to see and hear Gov. Palin as she accepted the roll of Vice-President! Her qualifications and
background far exceed anyone that’s running for public office! Just think, she didn’t have to spend
several million dollars to get elected! It certainly shows the hard-working Taxpayers that you can get
elected, honestly, without the ‘show and tell’ hype being put out the past several months!

Gov. Palin’s a firm believer that the money belongs to Taxpayers and not to special interest groups,
social and welfare programs! What a refreshing concept! Let’s hope she and John McCain won’t
forget it’s time to reduce the government payroll, by trillions of dollars, eliminate all social and
welfare programs, and start running this country like a private business, cutting salaries, positions,
and putting the politicians on notice that they’re only needed one month a year!

This election shouldn’t be about male, female, black , white, Democrat or Republican, it should be
about who’s going to do the best job for the future of America. Taxpayers shouldn’t be responsible
for trillions of dollars, since it’s a debt politicians made on their own and, most definitely, not in the
    best interest of America!

Let’s not forget for a minute that America needs a Military man like John McCain! Remember,
experience far exceeds ‘hype’! I don’t know about you, but I’m fed up with hype!

It’s an insult toTaxpayers to think that some of the seasoned politicians think we should give the
Osama Bin Ladens, murderers, rapists, and terrorists a nice warm bed, food, medical treatment, re-
build their country and try to teach them ‘not to be terrorists’ is more than we can fathom!

Regarding the "lipstick on a Pig" statement, Obama should be smart enough to know that using such a phrase as untimely as Palin's speech reference would only serve to cause disruption in the ranks..whether intentional or not. He should also know by now that such tactics are only hurting his bid and helping ours. Such tactics are unnecessary and divert from the important issues such as health care, education, energy and national security to name a few.
We should not get caught up in these distractions and stay focused on the issues at hand that all responsible voters are considering.

I do not believe Barack Obama was insulting Gov. Palin; however, the Republicans are simply doing what Barack Obama has done the entire election, claim perfectly innocent comments are discriminatory against people. We should not sink to Obama's level and make innocent comments out to be what they are not.

    Governor Huckabee,

I watched you on Hannity & Colmes and totally agree that Obama probably didn't mean it. But I think the crowd took it to mean Palin and he should have explained then an there that it wasn't. But you are correct, lets get back to the issues and treat one another with respect!

I believe that Obama was deliberate on the "pig lipstick" remark. He's an intelligent person and if you observe his mannerisms, he is very thoughtful of hwat he says. There is no doubt, in my mind, that it was a deliberate smear to Sara Palin. And he should apologoze.
However, your points are well taken that McCain has to keep hammering the important issues, espcially on energy, healthcare, and education. I agree with all the points you've made on the important issues.

"We don't need all the government controls that would inevitably come with universal health care. "

I think that says it all.
We don't need more MORE government.
    We need LESS.

I agree that sticking to the issues is what needs to be done but then our left wing media don't want to do that do they? As for Obama's cpmments, I have no doubt that he knew "exactly" what he was doing and saying and calculated how he would say it was just an attack from the right to say anything different.

Thank you, Governor Huckabee, for encouraging us to focus on the issues.
You gave an excellent example of making available common sense preventative healthcare with medicare/medicaid providing funding for supportive/protective footwear for a diabetic in prevention of skin breakdown & infection vs. funding an amputation. There are many more opportunites for common sense preventative measures to be taken with taxpayers' healthcare dollars. Thank you again for bringing us back onto topic about the issues.

I agree with Governor Huckabee that this bickering and attacking each other is not what Americans are interested in. We want to know WHAT the candidates will do for this country if they are elected. The fact that Obama is even mentioning Palin so much, is weakening his case because he is not even addressing Senator McCain and his issues but going after the 2nd person! This makes it appear that McCain has nothing for Obama to attack. Obama is running aginst McCain, not Palin. This just makes him look less presidential to me that he is not speaking to the differences in his platform vs. McCain.

I think that Barack knows what his intentions are. In the first place, why did he use the word lipstick? Do you think that he would have used it if there were a different candidate running for VP? No! I just don't buy it and I would think that Americans would be smart enough to know that he was trying to get away with it. I'm afraid for The United States of America if Barack wins.
