Blogs
Greetings, HuckPAC team from Sapporo, Japan:
Janet and I are still in Japan for a few more days. It is about 5am here on Friday which makes it 3 in the afternoon back home in North Little Rock. We are having a great, but extremely packed week. It feels like being back on the campaign trail, except that the speeches are being interpreted in Japanese and the raw fish is sometimes a little tough on a guy who grew up thinking fried catfish was seafood. Yesterday, I visited with some of the scientists at Tohuko University in Sendai City regarding their groundbreaking research in producing solar energy and in the their development of amazing new materials that are lighter and stronger than steel. I also visited with the Governor of the Hokkaido prefect where next month’s G-8 Summit will be held and spoke to the Chamber of Commerce in that prefect on American politics, US/Japan relations, and economic trends in the United States. We are looking forward to being back—we miss the dogs!
My speech to the Foreign Correspondents Club a few days ago seemed to have generated some buzz both here and back home when I mentioned that it would be a “fundamental if not fatal mistake for the GOP to demonize Barak Obama” in order to win the election. Some seem to have taken that to mean I was all but endorsing Obama! Quite the opposite.
I believe his ideas are totally wrong for America and many of his plans would take us the opposite direction from where I think we need to go. He is an ardent supporter for the most liberal and indefensible positions on abortion, including his refusal to support a ban on the most vile forms of all, partial birth abortion. He has stated that he would be an activist in seeking to push for what the anti-life forces euphemistically call “reproductive rights.”
His plan to raise taxes would be an economic disaster for our nation. We would lose jobs and investment and see the economy really squeeze the working class with even higher fuel and food prices.
He would implement more government control on everything from health care to small business and that’s not the right direction for us.
What I am saying is that we need to challenge Obama on the basis that his ideas are the wrong ones—not attacking him personally. If people spend their time repeating a bunch of internet driven drivel about his middle name (he didn’t choose his anymore than I chose mine), or his race (I do sincerely celebrate that our country has moved to a place where a person’s race doesn’t limit him from aspiring to the highest office in our land, but I just believe that due to his proposals and lack of substantive experience, he’s gone far enough—not because of his race, but because of his sincere, but misguided proposals), or his church (there are far more important reasons for us to elect Senator McCain than where Obama went to church).
Politics ought to be VERTICAL and Obama’s ideas will not take this country UP, but DOWN. I think he is a sincere and obviously a very intelligent and charismatic person. For us to deny that is foolish. Our focus should be to logically and systematically explain why ideas really do matter and why some are bad for those struggling as it is to pay the rent.
Elections ought to be about elevating the best ideas and exposing the worst ones—not engaging in character assassination with half truths, innuendoes, and disputable “internet facts.”
I hope you’ll keep the dialogue going and be a part of HuckPAC. I enjoy reading your posts—even the ones from those who use the blog to attack me. The reason I don’t respond to all of that is 2 fold: 1. I have other things to occupy my time than answering every critic; and 2. You guys—the HuckPAC family do a better job anyway!
Hope you are having a good week and continue to pray for our friends in the Midwest suffering from the devastating floods.
Sayonara,
Mike Huckabee

How is a bunch of pro-choice pro-homosexual *Democrats* noteworthy? They may claim to be different, but they are still Donkeys...they just don't feel like lining up behind Barack Obama.
Surely many of us can relate? How many here are still stomping their feet and demanding that Governor Huckabee embarrass himself by trying to jump back in the race?
How many are saying they will not vote for McCain under any circumstances?
Sometimes elections are about making difficult choices. This would appear to be one of those. I admire the McCain haters appreciation for this nation's resilience, but at the same time, I think sitting this one out to teach the RNC a lesson is frankly foolhardy.
That is y'all's choice, and good luck to you with it, but I am frankly okay with anyone who wants to pull the lever or fill in the bubble for McCain.
We are a nation in crisis, and if you think what we need on top of that is four years of Obama, well I for one will fight your sabotage (because let's call a spade a spade here, that is what it is) tooth and nail, and with every resource at my disposal.
If you really think McCain is the enemy, you aren't looking close enough at either candidate. I guess that's what happens when you're determined to despise someone.
I don't recall people having a flaming cow like this over Reagan Democrats...but then I suppose it was Ronald Reagan.

I have never passionately supported a politician and mobilized others like I did for Mike Huckabee. During the primaries, he came accross as a guy who understood that the time had come when it's a betrayal to keep polarizing this nation. The country is in debt like never before, China is dumping "made in China" all accross the the nation. The war in Iraq is dragging on. But I am bigginning to be dissappointed with Mike Huckabee. I was surprise that he took the position on FOX, given the role Fox is playing to polarize this nation. Mike has also started talking about thesame traditional GOP talking points. I was surprise to see him talk about Obama 57 states on Hannity. I do think he meant 57 contest but had a slip of the tongue. We need to be gracious about that even as we were gracious for the joke Mike made about the gun and Obama. We rightly need to point out the fact that Obama is pro-choice and that is disturbing. But I have the impression that we refuse to see the stick in our own eye. As a Christian, I believe that God cares not only about Americans, but also of people across the world. What about children, women and all the people who have died in an unjust war in Iraq. What about the people who were slaughtered under Mobuto, Jonas Savimbi of Angola, Feridnand Marcus and for whom Charlie Black, Mccain's advicer worked for. We refuse to see what is wrong with the GOP and accuse the Dems of all the evil in the land. It's time when playing partisan politics is a betrayal of our Christian values. I thought Mike was the kind of guy who will speak truth to people of both parties and take the high road. My dissappointment is huge. As I look back and review the debates, I have come to the conclusion that the only truth teller was Ron Paul. But offcourse he has a chance. I do think that Mike would win if he stays with the people and values that lift the nation and the people instead of siding with the politics that polarizes. As a Christian I realize I have a job to do, to evangelize, bring people to Christ, change the mindset on this like abortion. The gov't will not do our job on evangelizing and changing lives that will lead to a change of attitude and action about abortion and other issues. Christianity is growing by leaps and bounds today in China not because the gov't is good but because the Christians are ready to go to work, working hard to overcome the obastacles. Christians should not become the base of a political party. That comes with a negative perception of christianity. Will Jesus be a Republican? Or will he speak to people of both parties?

I Think by letting McCain go all the way until Nov. thinking every thing is alright and everyone's onboard is wrong, just watch the news or look at the net. McCain has got to do something to get his whole party excited and together, I'm telling you, with millions of new Dem's going to the polls
excited and energize ,most or going to vote all Dem. on the ballets. this is going to cause the Rep's to lose even more sets.
PLEASE FOR THE GOOD OF THE PARTY GO TO MACAINS BLOG AND SUGGEST HOW HE CAN GET EVERYONE ENERGIZED AND ON BOARD. I have been telling them reasons Huckabee needs to be VP. They seem tobe for him going more Dem. that will make it worst. Rep's. has to be motivated to go to the polls to win back control, this who is the less evil is not cutting it, its not just a few who are setting out are crossing over. -

Re: Good News in New Hampshire/Going Vertical
"Longtime Democrat takes sides with opposition"
Check out the NEWS section(Jun 27 post) at Sen. Mccain's website. There was some good news out of New Hampshire this week. A former Clinton official in N.H. and his wife are working as co-chairs for Democrats for John Mccain.
On behalf of his wife, James McConaha said this about their move:
"I think in general both of us felt that this is such an important position, perhaps the most important job in the world that it requires a person who has the experience and the competence to hold it. We just liked Senator McCain for a lot of reasons. In our minds, he is that person."
Well said. This couple's decision to do this should be brought up by Bob Clegg of N.H. at the "Vertical Day" meeting on July 23rd. They sound like a mature couple that had to really wrestle with their decision.

Well I'm not sure about the logic of what I've read posted tonight. When I look at what choice we have regarding the presidential election, it is between two people. McCain or Obama.
I understand that there are others running, Barr, Paul, and Nader. I at one time posted that Mike Huckabee should run on an independent party and call it the "Conservative Party". It's pretty clear that Mike is a true blue Conservative Republician and won't be running independant.
That leaves us with a choice. Stop whinning and look at who is left. Obama is ultra liberal and that is a fact proven by his voting record and his speeches.
McCain is a moderate proven by his voting record and his pandering.
The question is wouldn't it be better to support the lesser of two evils?
Maybe I'm not seeing things right but if the conservative Christians don't vote McCain then the future of their children will be in the hands of a liberal, with a Democratic Congress that will pass any bill the Democratic party wants passed.
I don't see any choice but to vote for McCain, a vote for Paul, Barr, Nader, or even a write in for Mike will result in victory for Obama.
Well you folks that weigh issues need to weigh the difference between the lesser of two evils. Which would you rather have, your hearing or your sight? Both put you at a disavantage, but one is more difficult than the other. -

There is much more information than I care to tackle at http://perotcharts.com/home/
In the introductory video H. Ross Perot mentions our national debt is at 9.4 trillion dollars. If we were able to fill box cars on a train with dollar bills to pay off this debt the length of the train would be almost 1,400 miles long.
Ross Perot also talked about our education system. He said that of all those graduating from our most elite engineering schools like Caltech and MIT with Ph d's that:
80% are from China and India
18% are from other foreign nations
2% are from the good ole USAH. Ross Perot also has a lot of troubling information about the incredible growth projections in entitlement spending.
I was contemplating a campaign commercial for McCain. A married couple could be discussing irrational purchases. "Hey, if you get a pool, I think I also deserve to get off road vehicle." "OK honey, you get that and I'll also buy these clothes from this catalog, a bunch of diamond jewelry and what else can I buy? Let's get a really nice vacation - hey we can charge it!" At the point that it all really looks irrational to the average viewer ... the video freezes and John McCain walks into the room to explain that this is congress spending our money. Maybe he can also explain that the Chinese are going to want their money back some day.
---------Digression---------------
Most of you reading what I am going to write aren't going to like this very much. China right now has close to military parity with the United States. But not gun for gun. You see, China has focused on developing "asymmetrical warfare" capability. This involves finding weaknesses in our military and even civilian infrastructure and exploiting this. For example by demonstrating that they can blow up satellites they can disable GPS guided missiles, planes and other GPS reliant devices.China has more people dedicated to computer hacking and penetrating our country's systems than the total number of people we have employed by our FBI.
It is widely known that China has embedded programs and codes throughout many computer and business systems all across our country. If ever they want to they could shut off the electric power across our country. I've read that it might take us six months to get our electrical system working again if they do this. Even our last major blackout was blamed on a Chinese hacker who was just exploring some computer systems.
Similarly, not too long ago, I heard about a tenacious computer virus that can escape detection by virus programs and even hide in computer peripherals like automated picture screens we stick memory cards into. People aren't alarmed because this doesn't do anything bad to their computer. All it does is send password information and the like to China. And the Chinese have not used this information to disrupt anything - yet - that we know of. So there is no need to panic. However, if we ever get in a war with them ... we will see what they can do.
--------------- end of digression ----------------------
However, the Chinese just might want their money back some day. They might just get annoyed if we don't pay them back .... or if we just start printing huge amounts of money in order to pay them back with deflated currency.
Back to the commercial .... I don't know if McCain wants to tackle entitlement spending which is really more serious than pork. And McCain might be able to do some funny commercials with Porkbarrel spending. Maybe McCain could be in a science fiction warplane with some aides closing in on Obama maybe discussing whether to target (attack) flip-flops in positions maybe with some humorous comments - and someone may point out the window at a field of pigs and they may all get sucked into the sky. And then trees from a forest gets sucked into the sky and we see a UFO looking like the Capitol building sucking up the pigs and twisting the trees into barrels and firing porkbarrels at McCain. Swarms of Congressman, staffers, lobbyists might be manning pork guns and shooting missiles or flying planes at him. Maybe, the commercials could be part of a series. McCain gets shot down. Finds the resistance on the ground, maybe Arnold or Chuck, Mike and Mitt can join up with him. At some point it can really be stressed that we can do nothing without the help of the viewer. Congress will keep destroying the country, keep acting irresponsible - unless the American people come aboard.
And yet if McCain wants to be really bold he can address entitlement spending. Maybe let Perot make a cameo appearance in a commercial showing a chart that shows that we don't have the money to pay for our present commitments. And then McCain can mention in a not too subtle way that Obama will be increasing entitlement spending.
If government spending has been out of control with republicans in charge what will happen if the most liberal of democrats is elected as President along with a super-majority in the Democratic Congress? I think we may go down hill fast.
On another note: coming on the heels of other unnatural posts in past days -
There seems to me to be something unnatural about Thomas Kissells repeated tirades about John McCain. If, as he claims to think, - McCain is only slightly better than Obama - I see no reason for him to spend all his energy slamming McCain.
He should be doing what he is urging us to do - support conservative congressional candidates (what HuckPac is focused on) - but stay quiet on McCain. Why are we getting tirade after tirade from kissell thomas on McCain? I am tiring of the tirades.
I don't mind at all people having various views about McCain - but I am getting uneasy about thomas kissell trying to stir everyone up into an anti-McCain frenzy. Why is he doing this? What is really going on?
It seems to me that again - we are up against a professional manipulator trying to do something - but for who and why - or against who and why - I don't know.
I do know that our national debt is so large that if we laid out dollar bills end to end (to illustrate the size of the debt) we could throw about 1,900 loops of printed dollars from the earth to the moon and back (and the moon is about a quarter of a million miles away.) see http://perotcharts.com/home/
I am disturbed that a political activist is so willing to destroy the country by coming on this website to stop McCain (or maybe prevent Huckabee from being on McCain's ticket as VP) using issues he doesn't believe in to do this. This activist himself will inherit a gloomy future if the economy of this country tanks. Just a few months ago we saw the tremendous tide of panic that nearly swamped this country as lenders were going under. We are not out of the woods yet.
This country is like a boat that has taken on a lot of water. Another storm, another earthquake, more irresponsible spending ... we have little reserves. Our main source of life is our credit account with China. And even now Ross Perot says we are borrowing money at the rate of a Billion dollars a day.
Please let the activists have a conscience (if possible)! Pray for these people (or person) trying to sink Mike.
This country is like a boat floundering in the water. Some want to take on a lot more water with a lot more government spending.
WE ARE IN MUCH WORSE SHAPE THAN WE THINK

Thank you for the response.
Good Luck on your Masters in Nursing degree. That sounds like a great degree to get in these times as the population is aging and needs more Nurses.
Yes, it was great to see Mike Huckabee at the Great Wolff Lodge and also when he was in Mason back in November. Mike can really get the crowd excited and motivated.
Thank you for your great HuckaWORD suggestion. The HuckaBOARD has reviewed your suggestion and I can now tell you with great pleasure that it has been added to the Huckapedia as an official HuckaWORD.

MEET JOHN McCAIN'S NEWEST SUPPORT GROUP!
They call themselves P.U.M.A, and it stands for Party Unity My A--. It is refering to party unity of the democrat party.
These prochoice, pro-homosexaul agenda liberals are saying that they simply cannot vote for Obama.
Who are they talking about voting for? John McCain!
And John McCain has apparently been pandering to them and meeting with them.
Look up P.U.M.A on youtube to see a little bit about it.
McCain reaches out to them but does not reach out social conservatives.
That is because McCain is one of them.
So what is the answer? Well it is not McCain. It is not McCain.
Lets look to the congress elections in 08. Short of a minor party miracle, the president election is a loss, rather if you want to admit it or not.
We could work to make sure that the people get candidates for congress who will put social conservative issues front and center as the top priority and will vote NO to liberal judges that whichever of these liberal presidental candidates will nominate.
So lets take the focus off the president election, withdraw our support of McCain and put the focus on good candidates for congress.
-
kissell, thomas

As McCain panders to hillary clinton supporters and trys to gain the support of flaming liberals and angry feminists I think it is clear that he is a liberal that no social conservative should vote for or support him.
So how do we stop liberal judges? Well the answer is not McCain and that is very clear. McCain will be part of the problem. So what can we do? We can drop McCain, and put all of the focus on good solid social conservative candidates who put social conservative issues in front as the top priority.
That is how we can make election 08 a little bit better than the disaster it might be. We may be stuck with a disaster president, but that means we should look past it, and take the focus off of it, and put the focus on the congress elections.

McCAIN ON JUDGES.
McCain voted for Ginsburg and Breyer.
In McCain's conference call to Clinton supporters, he is reported to have told them to remember that he supported these two justices.
McCain said Alito was too conservative then tried to deny it, but it is well documented that he said it.
McCain has a long history of giving support to ultra liberal judges and working against conservative judges. McCain is a career politican who wants both sides of the fence to get everyone's vote.
So please if you really care about the issue of judges, work to get some good congress memebers elected who will vote no to liberal judges.
Please everyone who cares about this issue, focus on congress elections insted of the president election. The president election is going to result in a liberal, period. Focusing on it will take away from the hopeful wins of conservative congress.

Efi, There will be no tax cuts made by Obama for the middle class, no matter what he says. Haven't you ever noticed that when the government lowers the cost of taxes in one area they raise it in another. Obama is proposing a health coverage program that will require money from somewhere. He said he will stop the Iraq war. He knows he will have to continue providing soldiers in Iraq until the threat of violence is over to stablize the area. That could take his first four years in office. We can't afford to let Iraq fall into the hands of extremists that will continue to hold America over a barrel of oil.
McCain has proposed drilling offshore. Obama says it will not be helpful to reduce the costof oil for 5 or more years. If we had done something like drilling 5 years ago we wouldn't be dependent on foreign oil now.
Go to Obama's website and look at the pathetic plans he has for relieving America of the energy crisis. Then check out the plans that McCain has laid out, huge difference, one in which McCain's could make us energy independent in 5 years, one in which Obamas would take 20 years to dent the problem. Two statements regarding oil prices.
If you watch the news, you will see that giant China with it's millions of people are now demanding oil. Their trucks are lining up to purchase oil that we used to get plenty of from OPEC. India is also becoming a demander of oil. Within the next 5 years Argentina will be selling all their oil to China, they already have the contract and China is building a refinery for their oil. At this present time America is the only one that can refine Argenitina's oil. We will lose a million gallons a day of their oil.
We have to drill now or we will pay later. We have to build nuclear, more hydro, wind, and solar, now or we will pay later.
These are just some of the differences concerning energy that you need to look at before thinking that Obama has a better plan.
A couple of months ago Obama said America needed to get used to not being able to ride their SUV's,
It appears that someone wants us to trade places with China of old and switch to bicyles, while China of today switches to cars.
That ain't McCains statement.
Even if Mike doesn't get picked I will vote for McCain because of the liberal judges that Obama will place on the courts.
I listened to MSNBC's commentator, Keith Olbermann make fun of the decision rendered by the Supreme Court about the right to bear arms. Telling the world that the founding fathers were talking about muskets, swords and 17 century weapons. My thoughts are what a liberal nut to not be able to see that the right of the American people to own a weapon for protection is rooted in the Constitution. Vote for a liberal and you will lose that right.
Vote for Obama and the issues most important will be in his hands to do as he pleases, such as ending late term abortion, stopping the attack on marriage.
My thoughts are, and I have always been independent, though my family always voted Democratic, I will not choose economics over values when I pull the leaver to record my vote. I can't with good concious make that decision.

Efi Walters: If Obama really thinks he can enact government run health care and NOT get into our pockets, he is kidding himself. The most common price tag I've heard, even from left-leaning sources is 513 billion. That isn't exactly chump change, even in a country with a GDP of 13.1 trillion as of 2006.
Also, between fuel costs, natural disasters, and the housing market disaster, demands on Federal funds are far greater than they were in even 2006. You can't get blood from a stone, and if the government doesn't have the money, they have never been shy about carving it out of our hides.
McCain is far from ideal as a candidate, but at least he isn't trying to pretend that he can initiate a half trillion dollar program and not raise taxes.

Obama is much better on taxes than Mccain. Lets be honest, Mike was for the middle class and talked about hurting people. On taxes, Mccain wants to keep the tax cuts for the wealthiest American. But Obama does better at cutting taxes for the middle class. Most Americans believe Obama will do a better job at taxes than Mccain. Remember McCain said he didn't know much about the economy that he still needed to be educated. And surprisingly, McCain says he does not know how to use the computer. He said his wife actually helps him. Obama in my opinion is the better of the two. I am just waiting to see who Mccain will pick a VP to make my decision.

Huckapedia,
Thanks for welcoming me back. No I have not visited Kings Island yet this year (except when I saw Gov. Huckabee speak at their Great Wolf Lodge last winter). I probably won't go because I am not much for roller coasters and the like, but, I do drive past it everyday.
I am working on my Masters in Nursing and plan to graduate in December. If Gov. Huckabee had been our nominee, I was seriously thinking of delaying my graduation date so I could continue to campaign for him. Since McCain is the nominee, while I will likely vote for him, but, have no enthusiasm to work for him. If he chooses Gov. Huckabee as VP choice, then I could get excited again.

I was really thinking about voting for McCain, I really like his energy plan but after going to his blog and seeing Christians and Conservatives get Attacked, talked down to, Blame for McCain's low numbers, and ran off, McCain's supports are horrible, mean.
Mike, I feel like one of the post over there, I can deal with higher taxes for 4yrs and maybe Obama will raise them so high that people will go for your Tax plan in 4yrs. As for the high gas prices maybe I can build me a moonshine still like my grandpa had years ago (not really) Mike, I would go thru fire and an alligator pit to get you votes, I really would, But I am not going to help McCain, I can't.
Getting the People elected on here is VERY VERY important and I'm with you on that, But I do see a problem that I don't think the GOP sees, The turn out for new Dem. voters was so much more then R. because of Obama ability to go for the pre-non Voter, and becomes of the un-energized McCain's campaign, for this what happens when all these new energized Dem's show up to vote for Prez. and finds it easer to vote straight Dem. ticket. This is going to be disaster for the GOP and its not these senators fault that McCain Can't get voters to the polls. It is going to hurt the whole Party.
Mike, again I really hope you understand and not disappointed in me but, I can't and will not support John McCain, I'm just going to close my windows (like Noah and the ark) and look up to the Lord and get ready for the storm and trust that the Lord has some plan for this crazy election year.
And I know some on here is going to say a no vote is a vote for Obama but I see it as McCain needs us more then we need him (he is not going to Guarantee us anything) and I'm Not going to vote for someone and his supporters calling us names, Id rather let them sink there ship on thier on.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL, I LOVE YA -

National Review Does Not Speak For Me
By Adam Graham (06/26/08)
National Review is set this Friday to release the names of four people it views as unacceptable Vice-Presidential Candidates: Tom Ridge, Charlie Crist, Joe Lieberman, and Mike Huckabee, and frankly I could care less.In December, I listened to and joined in the DC echo-chamber that slammed Mike Huckabee mercilessly. I fed on the constant negative drumbeat of National Review and their relentless assaults on Arkansas’ former Governor. I bought into it, I regurgitated it.
I never bothered to look into the facts, particularly in regards to the charges against Mike Huckabee’s fiscal record. If I had, I would have found out that he had two court rulings come out against his state that forced increases in Medicaid and Education, and that on top of that he faced a legislature that was at least 70% Democrat every year he was in office and could override his veto by a simple majority. I wonder which Huckabee critic could have done more for conservative values than Huckabee under those circumstances.
If this past election cycle taught us nothing, it taught us that bias exists in the conservative media. The one-sided attacks on Mike Huckabee last December were not only unfair, they allowed the rise of John McCain to the Republican nomination, as the National Review-anointed leader of the Conservative movement surrendered on February 7th after having won only one competitive primary.
Conservative defeat is the legacy of National Review in the 2008 campaign. Why bother listening to them? Last week, I did a podcast in which I began to talk about some of the activities of John McCain, the nominee that obsessive huckacritics pushed over the top by becoming the echo chamber of groups like National Review and the Club for Growth and I wept for what I helped to bring about.
I feel as Heritage Foundation Founder Paul Weyrich did when he rose to speak to the National Policy Council to confess, “Friends, before all of you and before Almighty God, I want to say I was wrong.”
Over the years, conservative magazines have ceased to speak to common people and explain how and why conservative ideas can make our country better. Instead, the magazines are full of intellectual navel-gazing that no one outside of the conservative movement cares one whit about.
They missed, as we all did, the grassroots movement that was Huck’s Army: thousands of grassroots activists producing miracle wins on little money. They missed the optimism and faith in America that Mike Huckabee exuded? Why? He graduated from school they never heard of, he was an Evangelical, came from the rural South, and didn’t embrace Darwinism as unalienable truth.
There is much of the establishment conservative movement that represents conservative beltway elitism. There time is ending.
There was a time when the New York Times was a Christian-owned newspaper that railed against the evils of abortion and even called it medical malpractice. There was a time when the motto of Harvard was, “For Christ and the church.”
These institutions have become shadows of their former selves, enemies of the causes for which they once existed, but truth lives on. It does not live in the hearts of the Wall Street crowd, beltway political manipulators, or self-righteous pundits, it lives in the hearts of people we never hear from at the national level.
They’re people who work hard, earning $12 an hour if that. They’re the people Barack Obama thinks cling to religion and guns out of bitterness. They’re the people that National Review thinks only refused to back Mitt Romney because of anti-Mormon bigotry. They’re people the left scoffs at for voting against their own economic interests.
But these people really believe in America, and that it’s a place where they can still make a better life for themselves and their children. They believe in a God who still governs in the affairs of men. These are the people who National Review disdains.
So, National Review can feel free to lump Mike Huckabee in with liberal Republicans like Tom Ridge and Charlie Crist, and even a Scoop Jackson Democrat like Joe Lieberman. But it is they who are missing the next great wave of conservatives.
Beyond this dark moment in the history of American Conservatism, I see glimmers of hope in those who are heeding the challenge of Alex and Brett Harris to “do hard things.” I see it in people across this country who will bare the battle in the heat of the day for the good of their country. There is hope for our country. It just won’t be found in places you’d expect like the offices of National Review.

Monique:
I have a couple of issues here. First and foremost is that Mike can't run as an independent in any state where he campaigned as a Republican, and the deadline to turn in signatures has passed in Texas and Ohio. That's a good 25 states where he won't be on the ballot. Even if half of those states allow write-ins, in some states you have to apply to be a write-in candidate.
Also, the states where he can't run include all of the biggest delegate prizes in the general election.
Can we please stop asking Mike to publically humiliate himself, not to mention throw his integrity to the wind?
Second thing: I don't know what dictionary you're using, but this is what Merriam-Webster says about charisma:
Etymology: Greek, favor, gift, from charizesthai to favor, from charis grace; akin to Greek chairein to rejoice — more at yearn
Date: 1930
1 : a personal magic of leadership arousing special popular loyalty or enthusiasm for a public figure (as a political leader)
2 : a special magnetic charm or appeal <the charisma of a popular actor>...and from the Oxford Dictionary:
charisma
• noun 1 compelling attractiveness or charm. 2 (pl. charismata /krizmt/) a divinely conferred talent.
— ORIGIN Greek kharisma, from kharis ‘favour, grace’.
Nothing about demons. Nothing about trickery. It even suggests it is a gift from God.
I also note that a leading Christian magazine is called Charisma...Mike has been on their cover, in fact.
I will not be voting for Obama..too many wrong-headed ideas to stomach. You'd have to have been living in a cave to miss his ability to conenct with people, however. That is charisma, and it isn't inherently evil and neither is he.
Obama still needs to be kept away from the presidency however...the future of this country depends on it.

PLEASE READ THIS, PLEASE.
hi everyone,
Just wanted to continue to get the word out about what kind of candidate this John McCain is.
Well, for starters he worked very hard to destroy our cause of not funding the killing of human embryos. McCain voted for the funding twice and worked extremely hard to make sure that this killing of human life would be funded.
McCain also voted against the federal marriage amendment, not just once but twice and also worked extremely hard against it, and was even part of an effort in the senate to not allow the bill to even reach a vote in the senate.
See what is happening in California right now? McCain worked hard to make sure that would happen, telling the people that it would never happen.
Social conservatives have known for years that the solution to these problems will not be solved by state's rights and that state's rights have failed us on these issues.
Texas had a state law bann of sodomy. The courts struck it down. Now this court decision will most likely be used in the future to strike down the defense of marriage act and certainly any state rights issues.
McCain knows this, he is hoping that you don't. Now speaking of judges, lets look at McCain's record.
Well, McCain voted YES to justice Ginsburg.
Does that represent you my friend?
McCain also voted YES for justice Breyer.
Get this. Recently McCain held a conference call to woo HILLARY CLINTON SUPPORTERS. According to some reports I have read McCain was reminding these women supporters about his support for Ginsburg and Breyer. Go do a search for it on yahoo or google or whatever you use. The word saturday is often used with that conference call.
John McCain publically stated that justice Alito was too conservative. Tim Russert had a interview with McCain where he brings this up and McCain trys to deny that he ever said, then Tim Russert exposes McCain's lie by referencing McCain's quote. It was really well done, and you should be able to find it on youtube.
John McCain helped the democrats keep their power to fillabuster by forming a gang of 14. The senate majority leader and most conservatives in the senate had just about enough of the democrat's fillabusting any prolife judges so they being in the majority came up with a plan which many called the "nuclear option" which would have ended democrats power to do this. John McCain however almost single-handedly stopped this, and once again betrayed conservatives to empower the leftists. The purpose of the gang of 14 was to block President Bush's conservative judges.
John McCain is also a career politican, flip flopping and hoping you'll never notice. Just look on youtube of all the times McCain changes positions and pretends not to. It is just about as bad as Romney, and you know how bad that got. It's almost as though you need a daily update on his positions. Yes, it is really that bad, yet he pats himself on the back as sticking with something no matter what anyone else thinks.
And ofcourse there is McCain/Feingold, which McCain used to try to silence right to life organizations.
Mike Huckabee, please publically withdraw your support of McCain. I voted for you and I trusted you, but now I'm not sure that I can still say that I do.
To you good people at home. You ARE the grassroots of the conservative side. But this year the people you supported turned on you, they called you bigots, they called you single issues voters, they called you the jimmy carters, jesse jacksons, and al sharptons of their side, they hated you and they fought against you. They betrayed you and attacked you in much of the same way that the far left does.
Is it right to put up with it from people who call themselves conservative yet not put up with it from far leftists?
What about on lookers who will say, "See, it is just as I told you, they don't really care about those issues, it's all a game to promote the republican party."? And all of the politicans and media who will say, "See, they aren't going anywhere no matter what we take away from them."?
Now many people will continue to cling to fear and helplessness and will support McCain and be in complete denial about his records and positions. They will be the helpless ones who will continue to believe that we must still vote for the republican candidate even if he is a liberal, because it is a two party system and anything else is a wasted vote.
But if you the grassroots break free from the helplessness and insist on being repressented in government, then rest assured that your vote will count no matter what politicans and the media tells you. That is where you learned it by the way. Your vote will count to encourage others to join you and make our issues strong once again. And the politicans will learn that it is they, who are the ones who are helpless, (that is of ever getting our vote) if they do not strongly support our issues.
Some people are leaning on this idea that McCain might only serve one term. First off that seems to me to be admitting that he is horrible. Second it is a pretty big gamble.
Please let's not lie about McCain's record and positions, McCain is very liberal, has fought hard against social conservatives on issues of life and marriage, and has a long history of flip flopping and supporting extremely liberal judges.

It will be in the best interest of Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney and John McCain and especially - the American people if Mike and Mitt can work together for McCain. Mike and Mitt working together will create an alternate "Republican Image" which is now dominated by Bush-Cheney. It will be much harder for Obama to hang the Bush noose over McCain's head if the American public sees Mitt and Mike working shoulder to shoulder on the same stage. These two strong men working together will reshape the Republican Image - it will expand the Republican playing field as the American public will have to keep an eye on Republican powers here and there. Just seeing them working together will make it impossible for Obama to effectively tie McCain to Bush. Why? Because right now there are few active, strong republicans left on the national stage and Bush gets nearly all the press (helping to cement the identity of Republicans with Bush in the public eye.) When you consider that Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney are so diverse and yet have some very strong strengths it will be a sight to behold to see you working together. Though one alone will fall when attempting to remake the Republican Image - together they can stand. This will be a synergy stronger than each of them campaigning alone. John McCain the maverick won't have to spend so much energy distancing himself from Bush when he has a Mike/Mitt synergy going on catching the public imagination - and hence expanding the Republican playing field. Obama's people are intending to attack McCain from every angle. With multiple, unified targets McCain will have forces that have joined up and can work effectively for him. This will be a threefold cord of Republicans of different stripes who cannot be said to be Bush clones.
It is sometimes a necessary military tactic to join your forces together. This new configuration will make it difficult for Obama to launch an effective attack. Plus, the immense convergence of talent that you guys will bring to the arena will make people stop and think "What did Obama govern or run? - A community center???" You can't tell people that - they will have to see it for themselves. Seeing is believing. The combined gravitas, experience and obvious concern to do the right thing for the American people ... will be an overwhelming combination that Obama will find more challenging than .... scattered individuals sniping (ooops!) er.. ah... discombulated, disjointed and uncoordinated attacks. You see, Mike and Mitt together is guaranteed to make it on the newscycle. If you both are having a good time - are fun to watch - a bit playful - maybe you will capture more newscycles. If you are working a bit independent of McCain, then McCain can be making his newscycle and you two another.
---Digression----
Mike, make sure you can speak knowledgeably about this news article the next time you run into Arnold from California.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/7435324.stmFor an extra credit assignment:
Take a large chunk of initiative to work on behalf of the people of the world who could get slammed by an earthquake at any moment. The sooner we can get any system up and running to give advance warning of earthquakes the better. Maybe McCain could co-sponsor some bill with a liberal democrat in California to push this project along. (Carly Fiorni was good at pushing things along as the CEO of HP.) It can't hurt McCain to be working to bring earthquake prediction to fruition. (I don't know much about how this can be predicted ... but if they do end up seeing these effects in the ionosphere and if this can only predict the most general area where an earthquake will occur ... it won't hurt to have a system in place that could immediate check local zoos for reports of animals freaking out in different areas. It has long been known that many animals can often sense an earthquake. The same electrical effects caused by compressing forces in the earth that trigger the disruption of the ionosphere - this may alert animals as well. Many fish for example can sense other animals from their electrical field. Birds like pigeons and migratory animals have homing mechanisms that are not totally understood. If McCain does sponsor an earthquake bill and it saves lives ... he will be a hero and win the election because of his good judgment. If people oppose McCain on this they would be taking a big risk and they would be blamed in the event something goes wrong.----End of my digression. -----
Mike you have to work closely and visibly with Mitt for this synergy to work. Mitt, if you get to read this consider how everyone will benefit down the road from a stronger, diverse and more unified Republican party. Neither one of you is as likely to even be selected as VP right now if McCain fears this will alienate the others followers. I urge that every effort should be made to create unity and friendship between you two.
Both of you got wounded in different ways as the campaign dragged on. The scripture says, "It is to a man's glory to overlook an offense."There is still a deep split between some Huckabee supporters and maybe some Romney supporters. This should be eradicated - and the effort has to start with you guys.
It is much less likely that McCain can win now against Obama if the Republican "house divided against itself" stays divided.
Also, in the next election (McCain claimed to be running for only 1 term) at that time - If either - or - both Romney and Huckabee are running next time around they will be harder pressed to win the presidency without an amicable friendship, support and cooperation of the other. Friendly support, cooperation and shared values now ... will create a much stronger Republican surge down the road. It is hard for losing candidates in one election to come back and win the next. If cooperation develops between you two (Mike and Mitt) it will make for an easier campaign next time around. The power of the vice-presidency is increasing - but it isn't much of a visible position.
Blessings and prayers for you both, and everyone else.

DEAR MIKE HUCKABEE:
The word "charisma" when you look it up in the dictionary means "trickery."
Also, in the study of demonology, "charisma" is an actual DEMON.
Charmisma is something that people are attracted to but have no real logical reason to be.
Mike, please stop complimenting Obama, right now we are at the risk of losing this election and even though the charisma you speak of is something not of this world as in the demonology definition, the world holds that to be a good thing.
I still say it is Mike Huckabee who should truly be our nominee, but since McCain grabbed it we must do all we can to promote him since Obama is not only wrong for America, he is evil. And he surely does have what is referred to in demonology as "charisma."
Honestly, I think everyone is so afraid of being called a racist if they denounce obama. I sure hope Mike that you are not one of those and stay a strong Christian to stand up for what is right, just, and good. Remember, we are still waiting for our miracle. Personally, I think you should get back in the race and be the David we all referred to you as.

If Obama was truely born again, and I can't judge, he'd be troubled by the comments he has been making concerning Biblical Issues because he'd realize that he wil have to answer to a Mighty God.
I don't understand what problems "Get Through At All" is having but is you can't read the charactures, hit the "get a new challenge" symbol, then type in what you see. The comment can take up to 30 minutes to show. Just have patience. -

I haven't posted in quite awhile, but, I have been checking in as often as I can. I am frustrated because I have now taken on a second job (it's the economy) and remain in school completing my Masters Degree and therefore don't have the time to spend on the election that I wish I did.
Nonetheless, I continue to follow Gov. Huckabee and respond to his requests via e-mail and the survey I received from Huckpac in the mail. I continue to keep my ear to the ground about what's going on even though I don't have time to have the input I would like to. I continue to pray and I continue to have my Huckabee for President sign in my yard near the end of my driveway. I continue to believe in Vertical Politics and continue to believe Gov. Huckabee has a purpose in this year's election that has not yet been fully realized.
While I have not been able to participate as much as I would like, I have not forgotten all of you and this cause. Just wanted to check in and say hello.
I still believe in miracles 2008!!! We need one foks.

Gov Huckabee, we need to get word to the McCain folks about clear energy politics. Nobody has a comprehensive plan, and as Washington ideas go, nothing is ever simple. This is an Obama achilles heel if there ever was one. McCain/ GOP needs to simply state
a) significant expansion of nuclear and wind programs to provide complete base of support for all future residential/ commercial/ automotive needs. b) By 2020, every car/ truck manufactured in the US must be a gas/ electric hybryd. c) By 2030, all vehicles manufactured must be electric only. d) initiate offshore drilling immediately to handle needs internally. e) expand the rail system for added haul/ passanger capacity. In other words, go electric/ clean/ green, and keep it in house. R&D subsidies available as required. Keep it simple and to the point! -

For those of you musing about the illegal immigrant problem in this country, permit me to deviate from my favorite topic (the Michigan Fair Tax Proposal Initiative) and point out a solid benefit of booting the illegals out of your state:
Oklahoma's Citizens and Taxpayers Protection Act (HB-1804) was signed into law in May of 2007. The act prevents illegal aliens from obtaining drivers license and public assistance benefits, severely restricts their ability to unlawfully work and reside within the state, and makes it a felony to transport, harbor, or shelter an alien in reckless disregard for their illegal immigration status.
A good summary of the bill can be found at http://okiron.org/HB1804Summary.html.
The full text of the bill is available at http://webserver1.lsb.state.ok.us/2007-08bills/HB/HB1804_int.rtf.
At the time that it was signed, naysayers of every stripe were claiming that HB-1804 would wreck the farming industry and make it impossible for businesses that relied on cheap labor, as no Oklahoman would be willing to perform such menial labor.
Well . . . maybe.
In May of 2007, Oklahoma's unemployment rate was 4.5%; right at the national average then. As of last month's figures (May 2008), Oklahoma's unemployment rate is (drum roll please) 3.5%!!! That's a full one percent drop from a year ago. And note that the national average is currently 5.2%.
Seems to me that there's no shortage of legitimate Oklahoma residents willing to perform minimum-wage menial labor.

For the first time in over 40 years as a voter, I'm struggling with the up coming elections. I'm not really comfortable with John McCain but I'm certainly not comfortable with Obama. The way I look at it right now, a no vote for McCain is a vote for Obama even if you leave the box for President on the ballot unchecked.
If we decide not to vote for either one, we will have to grin and bare the consequences of our decision for at least 4 years. -

I just donated $10 and sent an e-mail to adopt HuckaBOYS in honor of our four-legged "kids".
Also just upped my Ranger goal to (gulp) $1000. (code R23745)
If $1000 is donated by the end of July, I will post my recipes for violet, dandelion, and lavender jelly and the famous secret family fruitcake that converts confirmed fruitcake-o-phobes into eager may-I-have-one-more-piece fruitcake aficionados. DON'T miss this opportunity!!!
