Just when you think the Democrats can’t get anymore outrageous, they do. Maxine Waters, a very liberal Democrat, from California wants to nationalize the oil companies. She made the threat at a House hearing on Thursday, May 22. Oil executives were testifying before a House Committee, when Ms. Waters first demanded that oil executives guarantee the American people lower gas prices in return for the right to drill for oil, anywhere the oil companies wanted to.
When the CEOs told her that if Congress would do their job and open up some of the areas that would produce significant amounts of oil, lower prices would follow, Congresswoman Waters responded by saying “well, I can see that this Congresswoman is going to favor nationalizing the oil companies, and making sure the prices go down.”
I guess someone should remind the Congresswoman of Hugo Chavez and . Surely, she isn’t suggesting that. But then, again, maybe she is. She obviously has never learned about the fundamental economic fact of supply and demand.
We all realize that we must do something to help the American consumer, and stem the rising cost of gasoline, but nationalizing the oil companies is not the answer!! must become less dependent on foreign oil. Drilling for oil in areas such as oil rich areas of Alaska, and off the coast of some of our Gulf States should be encouraged in a way that will protect the environment. We can solve our energy problems effectively and efficiently without resorting to the radical tactics of people like Maxine Waters.

My sympathies to the Kennedy family.......but this is pretty enlightening
HOW 'LIBERAL' CARE WOULD KILL TED
By ROBERT M. GOLDBERG
Kennedy: Getting care denied by 'liberal' health regimes.
June 5, 2008 -- IRONICALLY enough, the dangers of the lib eral health-care agenda are being made clear by the care that a liberal icon, Sen. Ted Kennedy, has received since his brain seizure last month. One day after an MRI detected a tumor, Kennedy was quickly diagnosed with a malignant glioma - a rare and often-fatal form of brain cancer. Less than two weeks later, his tumor was being removed by one of the world's experts in brain cancer at Duke Univeristy Medical Center. He'll follow up with chemo and radiation therapy tailored to the genetic makeup of his cancer to keep the cancer from spreading.
He'll likely take Avastin, a drug that in experiments with brain cancer has extended survival by months. A new cancer vaccine being developed in partnership with Pfizer could extend his life by six years.
Of course, with his wealth and power, Kennedy would get good treatment anywhere. But the same care is available to every American.
Not so - if we make the health "reforms" called for by Kennedy and other liberals.
Filmmaker Michael Moore gives their standard line when he says: "There are problems in all health-care systems, but at least Europeans and Canadians have a health-care system that covers everyone."
Problem is, governments that promise to "cover everyone" always wind up cutting corners simply to save money. People with Kennedy's condition are dying or dead as a result.
Consider Jennifer Bell of Norwich, England. In 2006, the 22-year-old complained of headaches for months - but Britain's National Health Service made her wait a year to see a neurologist.
Then she had to wait more than three months before should could get what the NHS decided was only a "relatively urgent" MRI scan. Three days before the MRI appointment, she died.
Consider, too, the chemo drug Kennedy is receiving: Temodar, the first oral medicine for brain tumors in 25 years.
Temodar has been widely used in this country since the FDA approved it in 2000. But a British health-care rationing agency, the National Institute for Comparative Effectiveness, ruled that, while the drug helps people live longer, it wasn't worth the money - and denied coverage for it.
Barack Obama - and other Democrats - have been pushing a Senate bill to set up a similar US "review board" for Medicare and any future government health-care plan.
After denying this treatment completely for seven years, the NICE (did whoever named it intend the irony?) relented - partly. Even today, only a handful of Brits with brain tumors can get Temodar.
And if you want to pay for Temodar out of your own pocket, the British system forces you to pay for all of your cancer care - about $30,000 a month.
Things are no different in Canada, where the wait for an MRI (once you finally get a referral) has grown to 10 weeks. For Canadians relying on their government health care, the average wait time from diagnosis of cancer to surgery is beyond the guideline set by both the US and European societies for surgical oncology.
And HealthCanada, the government system, similar refuses to pay for treatments that are often covered in America.
Chad Curley, a 37-year-old auto worker from Windsor, Ontario, had a brain tumor like Kennedy's but can't have surgery because his is too large to be operable.
His tumor didn't respond to Temodar and the same doctors now treating Sen. Kennedy told him and his wife that the Avastin combination could stop his tumor from growing and add months to his life. But HealthCanada wouldn't pay to use Avastin to treat his tumor.
Chad's family and friends scraped together the $5,000 for the first round of treatment in mid-November; they later saw Chad's left-side paralysis start to subside. But the money ran out - and he died on Feb. 21.
In pushing for government-run health care, liberals are pushing for a system where only the Ted Kennedys of the world can get cutting-edge - and life-saving - care.

UPDATE on your favorite priest and mine, Fr. Pfleger. Cardinal George HAS told him to take a two week leave from his parish! It started Tuesday.
He of course disagrees that it is necessary, and his parisioners are protesting his punishment as well.
Oh Goodness me! The Cardinal is enforcing Canon! The Horror. *makes a face*
Actions have consequences, even for a man of God. If he couldn't hold back from ridiculing a candidate for public office (tatamount to endorsement of their opponent, which is not okay with Mama Church.), he should have held off until he wasn't in the pulpit.
I'm apalled anew at his inability to accept his chastisement humbly and with good grace, and don't even get me started on his parishioners.
Poor Cardinal George...

To Lehan, Kathy: I used to share your sentiment about SUVs, etc., but I have since become a grandmother with two tiny ones to haul around in car seats. Not only do these contraptions take as much room as a 200-pound man, they are a beast to get children in an out of safely. That problem is worse when you drive a small car like I do. Not everyone needs an SUV or van, but with the seating reqirements for children, they're just about required these days for hauling even a small family.
We could all change the way we live "sacrificially," and it wouldn't be a tragedy. But we don't need to be painful; we need to be smarter. If you want people to walk to work, start with stupid zoning regulations that force us to live long distances from work. Or here's another EASY fix that would slash gas deman...at least half of office workers no longer need to GO to work. High-speed internet and computer access and phone services make it entirely feasible to work at home. We should pressure our government to pressure employers to examine that option OR the option of going into work only one or two days a week for meetings, etc. Imagine if we could get just 20 percent of the cars off the roads two days a week. Don't tell me that if demand drastically went down the prices would not "miraculously" find a way to get competitive.
But on another note...I think these high prices are good. It's the only thing that will make us move toward clean, renewable energy sources. If we had put the same resources into developing solar power that we have put into computers over the last 30 years, we would be heating our homes on a microchip.

Rick: The problem I have with that assessment is that his comments about Clinton came on the heels of a bunch of White Guilt/White Entitlement nonsense, so it seemed clear to me that he thought that Hillary's sense of entitlement came from the color of her skin, not being part of the Clinton Dynasty.
I half expected to hear the infamous N word come out of his mouth (putting words in her mouth), since clearly cussing was not outside of his limits.
As far as I'm concerned, he hit the Trifecta: Crass, Racist, and Pandering
Classy guy, that Fr. Pfleger.
As for La Clinton, I don't like her either. She and Bill are two heads of the Hydra, thankfully, hers is apparently not the immortal head.
I saw the most hilarious picture the other day (to move on to the other candidate for a minute). It was Obama's face superimposed on the Cowardly Lion. Made my night lol :)

Rick: We will have to agree to disagree that Fr. Pfleger was dead on about her, but it was still a misuse of his position. I don't know how things work out there, but here if a priest talked that mess, anti-Christian advocates would run crying to the Governor about revocation of their church's tax exempt status.
Priests are not forbidden to talk about politics, and certainly I can recall way back when being asked to pray for the passage of Prop 22, for example, but there is definitely a line that can't be crossed or people will start calling for the revocation of said church's tax exempt status. I don't know if such protests have been successful, but that isn't the point.
It is irresponsible and indefensible to put his diocese in the position of having to try and defend him, or even publicly castigate him.
Maybe I'd care less if he wasn't Catholic but I doubt it. If Mike did something like that, I don't think my response would be any different. Call it unfair if you like, but I hold men and women called to the service and dissemination of the word of God to a higher standard.
Yeah they're human and they mess up yadda yadda. Fine. So this guy needs to take lessons from Mike on how to apologize. I still think he is more sorry for getting caught than sorry for what he said. Appealing to people's baser natures revealed his own.
Perhaps it makes me weak in spirit or whatever, but I can't give someone like that unreserved forgiveness till I see that they learned a lesson as opposed to learning not to talk that nonsense when a camera is around.
In other news; Eeew? He was right about Hillary? I'm not a fan of Hillary, but I haven't seen anything that would lead me to believe that she felt entitled to the Presidency simply because she's white.
I have gotten the sense that she WAS shocked to see it slip away from her, but I think that had more to do with her being the media's Anointed One for so long, giving her the notion that she was entitled. She's a CLINTON after all!

Nationalize oil company will "never" happen because it against every fiber of American capitalism.
However, I should have learned not to use the word "never" as the liberals seem to have their ways of surprising us.
Lately on my mind is the supreme court in California has made homosexual "marriage" legal there. The federal constitution marriage amendment is the only solution to protect the traditional Values.
What can we do as a group to continue pushing forward for this goal? I know McCain did not Federal Marriage in the past. Can he be changed? Is it time to call for the third candidate?

*sputter* Slow to judge? Um...what part of the sermon did we miss? It seemed continuous to me, from introduction to when he mercifully left the stage.
He's clearly pandering to that crowd, and from the glowing introduction, I'd be willing to bet he has done it before. I hope Cardinal George chews him out bigtime, since that is a total abuse and misuse of his position, and the violation of the oath he made before God and his congregation (Maybe he thought that since this was not his flock it didn't matter?).
When seeking ordination, a priest pledges and affirms the following:
Are you resolved, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to discharge without fail the office of the priesthood in the presbyteral order as a conscientious fellow worker with the bishops in caring for the Lord's flock?
Are you resolved to celebrate the mysteries of Christ faithfully and religiously as the Church has handed them down to us for the glory of God and the sanctification of God's people?
Are you resolved to exercise the ministry of the word worthily and wisely, preaching the Gospel and explaining the Catholic faith?
Are you resolved to consecrate your life to God for the salvation of his people, and to unite yourself more closely to every day to Christ the High Priest, who offered himself for us to the Father as a perfect sacrifice?
Do you promise respect and obedience to me and my successors? (If a priest is being ordained into an order, rather than a diocese, the priest will ask the candidate to promise respect and obedience to his "ordinary", which is the bishop of an order, rather than a diocese.)
Now I have to wonder, assuming that he said yes to all of the above, how he can say with a straight face that he hasn't broken the covenant he made with his Bishop and his congregation?
What a disgrace. How DARE he???
*makes a face* I am called to forgive, and he has apologized, but frankly my sense was that he was sorry he got caught.
I have faith in God, even though I've never seen Him, but from humans, I want proof. We shall see how he conducts himself from here on out.

The Exxon Mobile scam doesnt work. The other gas companies that we are buying from will need extra gas to fill their increased demand. So they will need to buy it from somewhere. And lo and behold who might have extra gas? Could it be Exxon/Mobile. The other gas companies will need to buy gas from Exxon/Mobile who's refining capacity is needed in order to meet total US demand. The other gas companies do not have unlimited refining capacity. They will need to get the gas from some other refiner. We need to drill for our own oil, and build more refineries, nuclear energy, hydrogen fuel cell cars, solar and wind farms and on top of all of that conservation. Get rich quick schemes wont work on a global market product. Total demand vs. total supply sets the price (plus taxes of course).

I just got this email and am not sure if it will work, but with gas prices at more than $4 and more...it's worth a try....
"THIS IS NOT THE 'DON'T BUY' GAS FOR ONE DAY, BUT IT WILL SHOW YOU HOW WE CAN GET GAS BACK DOWN TO $1.30 PER GALLON.
This was sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. If you are tired of the gas prices going up AND they will continue to rise this summer, take time to read this PLEASE.Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea.
This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the 'don't buy gas on a certain day' campaign that was going around last April or May!
It's worth your consideration. Join the resistance!!!!I hear we are going to hit close to $ 4.00 (some of us already have!) a gallon by summer and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down?
We need to take some intelligent, united action. The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to 'hurt' ourselves by refusing to buy gas.It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.
BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can Really work.
Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL.If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.
But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now, don't wimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!
I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us s end it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) .. and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000)...and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers.
If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!
Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all!
(If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people.... Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician. But I am . so trust me on this one.
How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!!
I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you!
Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. I suggest that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $2.00 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK."

Sunny in California,
I viewed that video from Obama's church that you linked, and I must say that "that type of talk" is racist and bigotted, but we must be slow to judge because we weren't there to hear the WHOLE sermon. I certainly hope that he made those "comments" in order to point out "forgiveness" just as God has forgiven those who have humbled themselves before Him. If not, then you're right...what kind of "Christian" church is this?

I agree it is a major issue of supply and demand but I also think it’s a situation that we should have seen coming.
For so many years around this time gas prices always went up, however in the past few years they never went back down. Especially after the hurricane seasons of 2005 and 2006 in which people along the Gulf Coast were pounded weekly by a different hurricane, the prices went up as areas dried up and went higher and higher with each storm. Usually around the fall the prices drop a bit, pick back up during peak travel months (such as holidays) um… interesting how that works out eh?!, but then would fall again only to rise again in the summer and the circle of life would continue.
However since the drop never happened they just kept going and going up and up and up, until we ended up with the situation we are currently in. I think someone needs to step in and do something, but I am not convinced it’s a government issue so much as a gas corporation issue. The government could step in but then what? They tell them to lower prices, then where does it stop. We gripe enough about the price of cars will the government step in then too?! As for the gas corporations, right now they can charge what they want simply because they can, people have to get to work, and people have to have a car. That said these gas rallies everyone talks about where people stop buying gas the third week of a certain month for x number of hours isn’t the solution either. Not going on a trip will not make the gas prices drop dramatically, that’s a band aid not a solution.

This story is really gaining some traction...
MONTANA GOVERNOR IS SITTING ON AN OIL MINE
May 29, 2008 -- HELENA, Mont. - Here's some very good news about oil that the manipulators on Wall Street don't want you to know: there could be as much as 40 billion barrels of crude lying untouched in eastern Montana. That's billion with a "b" - as in a ball-breaking amount for those speculators who are purposely pushing oil higher for their own selfish reasons.
Who says? Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer does, adding that his state - with fewer than 1 million residents - would be thrilled to bail the US out of its current energy predicament.
While on a visit to Wyoming and Montana, I popped in on Schweitzer, the Democratic governor, who was more than happy to answer my questions about the rumors of huge oil deposits in the so-called Bakken area of his state.
Right now, the US Geological Service estimates that there are 4.3 billion barrels of recoverable oil in the Bakken region, which also reaches into North Dakota.
"They are always conservative," said Schweitzer, who greeted me in his office dressed in jeans, a white shirt and a string tie. "There will be more. It'll probably be more like 40 billion."
It's so much, in fact, that a discovery like that - or even hints of such a find - could ruin speculators' chances of getting the price of oil much higher than it already is.
In fact, just the knowledge of such big oil deposits - together with a drop off in fuel use because of the recession and the inevitable development of alternative energy sources - might cause gasoline prices to fall substantially in the future.
As it is today, Americans are being cheated on the price of oil. I've been writing about this for the past couple of years and now even a do-nothing Congress is getting concerned, although its ire is misplaced.
Wall Street speculators, aided by cheap money from the Federal Reserve and an ill-informed press, have kidnapped oil in much the same way that the Hunt brothers cornered the silver market in the 1970s.
The only difference is that the Hunt escapades didn't come close to ruining the country's economy. Congress is blaming the oil companies, which certainly are benefiting from the surge in oil prices. President Bush did his part by groveling to the Saudis for more oil - and was offered a token increase, but was essentially turned down.
But maybe if we start digging in Montana, we just might get our national dignity back - and even save our economy.
"We've been drilling out there for 70 years," said Schweitzer of the Bakken area. "People there like new oil production. In fact, the city of Sydney [the county seat] wants to build a refinery. Where else in America do you have a community that says, 'we want to build a refinery in our backyard?' "
Schweitzer, an agronomist with an advanced degree in soil science, has a picture on his office wall of his grandfather operating a one-man refinery.
If you let him - and I did - Schweitzer will explain how oil deposits come to be formed over millions of years. He also explains how the Bakken contains so-called oil shale, which means that the crude needs to be flushed out of tight rock formations.
With improved technology today and higher prices, this recovery method is now very feasible.
"And the nice thing," Schweitzer said, "is it's one drill hole per section." For you city slickers, a "section" is a huge 640 acres.
By comparison, Saudi Arabia has the largest known oil reserves at 260 billion barrels.

The next time you hear a politician use the
word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about
whether you want the 'politicians' spending
YOUR tax money.A billion is a difficult number to comprehend,
but one advertising agency did a good job of
putting that figure into some perspective in
one of its releases.A.
A billion seconds ago it was 1959.
B.
A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.
C.
A billion hours ago our ancestors were
living in the Stone Age.D.
A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.
E.
A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our government is spending it.
While this thought is still fresh in our brain, let's take a look at New Orleans It's amazing what you can learn with some simple divisionLouisiana Senator, Mary Landrieu (D),
is presently asking the Congress for
$250 BILLION to rebuild New Orleans. Interesting number, what does it mean?A.
Well, if you are one of 484,674 residents of
New Orleans (every man, woman, child), you each get $516,528.B.
Or, if you have one of the 188,251 homes in
New Orleans, your home gets $1,329,787.C.
Or, if you are a family of four, your family gets
$2,066,012.

Be a part of the Solution(s)--not a part of the problem!
Just when you think you've heard it all--another liberal politician threatens to destroy our free enterprise system! I am amazed that a member of our Congress is just so blatantly anti-American business.
Please go to American Solutions.com and sign the petition there to "Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less". Newt Gingrich is leading the charge to present 250,000 signatures to the Senate next week to stop the Warner-Lieberman bill.
--------------------------------------------------------
Update from Newt:"Already, more than 154,000 people have signed the petition urging Congress to start drilling for oil domestically. Next week, it's our goal to deliver more than 250,000 signatures to the United States Senate as a first step toward stopping the destructive Warner-Lieberman bill which would raise the cost of gasoline, diesel fuel, aviation fuel, natural gas and coal.
Americans truly have a choice - a choice between paying more and sending more money to foreign dictators, or producing more oil domestically and paying less."

This is from this past Sunday at Obama’s Church!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWigzBClEk8
This is a known friend of Obama’s and his pastor Rev. Wright.
I live a sheltered life I guess, I don’t know anyone that thinks like this. I’ve never seen anything remotely close to this ever. I am shocked!
This is the most bizarre preaching I have ever seen; paralleled only by Rev. Wright’s.
What kind of church is this?! What book do they teach from?I saw Obama’s pastor imitating a sex act while talking about Bill Clinton in church and the audience was exuberant! Look how the audience responds to the service. I wonder if Obama or his wife ever got up and danced or jumped up and down when something terrible about whites or hateful negative things were said about our Country which seems to be a major part of this church’s appeal.
This “stuff” is completely OUTRAGOUS!
No one seems to want to talk about the hateful white bashing, anti-American Rhetoric that is part of Obama’s church.
WHY?

Rick, as a nuclear engineering major, I can tell you exactly why the nuclear industry has government insurance- it's because without it the industry could never survive regulation. The public's paranoia wouldn't let the industry conduct business without the promiss of any potential damages being covered. The problem is, while a nuclear accident is extremely unlikely, the results of an accident would be so catastrophic that the company's liability would surpass its assets. No company could promiss that it would be able to pay for all the damages an accident would cause, but the people would require them to muster that money in escrow even if the chance of an accident is less than one in a million.

I happened to catch the O'Reilly Factor last night. I was very disappointed that person he interviewed could not provide a substantial answer as to why gay marriage is bad for California.
With all of the available studies and data currently available, he couldn't come up with more of an answer than that the people of California don't want it.
There are many credible statistics available from our country and others as well, that give substantial reasons as to why this isn't good for the United States, period.
If this is the kind of guy that's going to represent or help us in our endeavor, the public doesn't stand a chance of ever learning the truth.
I was sorely disapointed, to say the least.
I pray that someone has the courage to do the necessary research and present it to the media and get the truth out.
Frankly, I'm astonished when this didn't happen last night. A prime opportunity, missed.
Stunning and outrageous.

Yea, if our Government work for us and not against us our economy would once again take off like a rocket.
they tying our hands behind our backs by not allowing us to drill here and liquefying our coal, this puts us at a disadvantageThey are tying our hand behind our backs by putting to many regulations on our industry when the countries we are competing with has very little if any. I posted something the other day to try to compare this, here it is again
*** McCain and the Democrats on our trade with China and losing our jobs said we need to train our people better to compete.
Common sense says: If you take two race teams one of which is fully experience and top notch like Jeff Gordon's team and then take a bunch of shade tree mechanics with very little experience and no training and put on the other team and tell Gordon's team they have to follow all the rules but the shade tree team has no rules to follow. The team with no rules will win every time, don't mater how smart or trained the Gordon's team is. Now the only way to even it out and make it fair is to ether make the shade tree team play by the rules or do away with the rules on Gordon's team, or do both***Not only can we compete but we can once again lead the world in highs never dreamed of.
Here is something that I came across and would love for you to read, very short but to the point on how the USA has not only lead the world on energy but invented it for the past 200yrs http://jemisonthorsby.blogspot.com/2008/05/energetic-perspective.html#linksWashington its time to untie our hands and work with us or get out of the way before we get passed.

America will miss the boat this election season.
Every time I see a new Huck video or hear an audio, I hear the most straight forward common sense approach to every problem facing America today.
Still not sure about voting in November. However, when the time comes, I'll do my absolute best to follow God's guidance in my decision.

Apparently, from some of the remarks I've seen, there is no doubt that we really are stupid!!
In another year, we'll look at $4.25 a gallon as a bargain. Unfortunately, oil companies are not operating in a free market trade, as pet stores and beauty salons. What pet store or beauty salon receive tax subsidies?? How many lobbyists do pet stores and beauty shops have to "buy" congress?? When oil companies are making record profits as they are now, TR would have put an end to this sort of collusion to allow the free market economy to work.
Buying into the Democrats and Republicrats charade is not going to get us out of this mess. an additional reason gas prices have gone up is due to the declining value of our currency, the dollar - that's what $9 Trillion deficits do to an economy and the value of it's currency!
It's disingenuous to only blame Democrats and Nancy Pelosi. Republicans need to take their own representatives to task, because the deficit is a bi-partisan scandal that began when Republicans were in charge of congress, Senate, and White House!
Sunny is right, people out of desperation will make a deal with the devil - I think blindly without knowing the true consequences - just think about the sub-prime mortgage fiasco!
Continuing as we have, is not the solution. Letting large corporations to continue to buy politicians and give our hard earned money to them through tax subsidies is capitulation, not capitalism. But if you want to continue to buy the "fantasy" of these Corporate States of America, they'll tell you just what you want to hear as they pick your pocket!

"And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." John 8:32
The reality is that the price of oil is only going up and the real challenge at hand is to keep it at a steady growth instead of one out of control. If we do not incorporate a mix of all the natural domestic resources available to us (drilling domestically, coal-to-liquid, nuclear, and renewables), the price of energy and our dependence on foreign oil will only get much, much worse.
Even if we do our part as Americans and consume less petrol, walk, take the bus, and ride our bikes the price of oil will only continue to go up because the GLOBAL THIRST for oil is only increasing exponentially.
This alarming fact should be the number one reason for making ourselves more ENERGY INDEPENDENT. This way, we will not be so much at the mercy of the whims of the oil market ups and downs and of foreign oil nations like Saudi Arabia which President Bush lately just asked for more oil and they said - NO.U.S. ENERGY CONSUMPTION BY ENERGY SOURCE IN DECENDING ORDER
(1) Petroleum 40%, Fossil Fuel
(We import MORE than 60% of this Petroleum)(2) Natural Gas 23%, Fossil Fuel
(We import 16% of this Natural Gas)(3) Coal 23%, Fossil Fuel
(4) Nuclear Energy 8%
(5) Biomass 3.3% (like ethanol)
(6) Hydroelectric 2.7%
(7) Geothermal 0.34%
(8) Wind Energy 0.18%
(9) Solar Energy 0.07%Most people don't consider this but one of the biggest contributors if not the number one reason for the average price of gasoline at $4.00 plus a gallon is because of the greater demand for oil from China and India in the last TWO years.
Don't believe me? Well, check this one current excerpt of many:
Source; Deloitte Global Economic Outlook 2008 "The price of Oil - affecting factors and it's future."
"Why has the price of oil jumped FIVE-FOLD in the past five years? And why has the global economy done so well despite this rise? The answers to both questions are related. The price of oil rose, in large part, due to the strength of the global economy and its impact on the demand for oil. In fact, the global economy in this decade has grown faster than at any other time in recorded history. A significant portion of this growth was attributable to the rise of China and India. Notably, both countries subsidize the cost of energy, thereby encouraging highly inefficient use of energy. Thus, it should be no surprise that so much of the world’s increased demand for oil came from these two countries. This is quite different from oil price spikes of the past, many of which were due to a drop in supply rather than an increase in demand."

Linda Rayborn and Kathy Coffee,
Thanks for your kind words. Also, for anyone who would like to learn more about Dave Ramsey, here is his website:
Dave has said on his national radio program that the FairTax would be great if it would pass, but not to let any politician tell you that it would change your life. I agree with Dave, but the FairTax would drastically change our tax system for the best; it would encourage thrift and saving (which Dave preaches). If his talk show is broadcast in your area, call Dave and let him know he should get behind the FairTax.
For anyone who is interested, you can find out which local groups in your area are offering "Financial Peace University" on Dave Ramsey's website. Thanks.

05/28/2008 06:39 PMThat was a very interesting post. Our enemies would love to see us worn down by the negative effects of our faltering economy. We are a self-indulged Nation for the most part; sad but true. I have family and friends that are going through terrible financial times right now. (Some losing everything) And if the gas and food prices continue rising, I could see people willing to strike a bargain with the devil to get the material things they are used to; let alone the things they really need. I am afraid it is going to get much worse before it gets better because, like you said, “they are crazy.” I’m sure they love the suffering that's going on over here in the USA and are trying to figure out how they can inflict more on us.
Yes, someone needs to follow the money and we need to become energy independent and fast!My Grandpa was from Texas and Grandma from Oklahoma. They came to Califonia in the early 40's. I was raised on all kinds of beans! It’s a good thing I love them, pretty soon they may be all we can afford to eat! LOL!

Gallup Poll: Majority of Americans Agree with Republicans, Favor More American Energy Production
From Coast to Coast, House Republicans Promote Comprehensive Plan for Lower Gas Prices and Energy Independence
Washington, May 29 - It’s only a matter of days until the national gas price average hits $4 per gallon. According to AAA, the price at the pump climbed to $3.95 per gallon today – an incredible $1.62 higher than on January 4, 2007 – Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) first day as Speaker. That’s a $1.62 Pelosi Premium that consumers pay each and every time they fill up at the pump. This news comes as a new Gallup Poll was released this morning, showing that 57 percent of Americans agree with Republicans and favor more energy exploration here in the United States to help bring down the price of gasoline:
“Frustrated by political deadlock and inaction, Americans are beginning to consider some more drastic efforts to control the surge in gas prices at the pump. For example, a majority of Americans now support drilling in U.S. coastal and wilderness areas.”
Increasing the production of American-made energy in an environmentally-safe way is a key element of the comprehensive energy plan rolled out by House Republicans last week. The GOP plan – which House Republicans have been highlighting in their congressional districts throughout the Memorial Day recess – also would promote new, clean, and reliable sources of energy like advanced nuclear and next generation coal, cut red tape to increase the supply of American-made fuel and energy, and encourage greater energy efficiency by offering conservation tax incentives to Americans who make their home, car, and business more energy efficient.
Reminding his constituents that Speaker Pelosi and her Democratic colleagues never delivered the “commonsense plan” to lower gas prices they promised way back in April 2006, Rep. Howard P. “Buck” McKeon (R-CA) touted the House Republicans’ plan for lower gas prices and greater energy independence yesterday at a Valencia, California gas station. McKeon’s hometown newspaper, the Santa Clarita Signal, has the details:
“‘From the time Democrats first took control of Congress, gas prices have risen by more than 60 percent,’ said McKeon, R-Calif. ‘The Pelosi Premium is hitting Americans hard. Current gas prices are at record highs, and projections for the future appear to only get worse as long as we stay on the same course.’"
“To address rising gas prices, he introduced an energy plan unveiled by House Republicans last week, which McKeon says will offer meaningful solutions to increase the supply of American energy, improve energy efficiency and encourage investment in alternative and renewable energy technologies."
“McKeon added that not only have the Democrats failed to control gas prices since taking over leadership in Congress after the 2006 general election, they have also failed to work with Republicans to develop a bipartisan plan to keep gas prices under control.”
The plan crafted by McKeon and other House Republicans stands in stark contrast to the inaction from House Democrats, who have done nothing to increase the supply of American-made energy and address today’s soaring gas prices.
With six in 10 Americans backing a key element of the Republican energy plan – the production of more American-made energy to help lower gas prices – how much longer will Democrats in charge of Congress sit on their hands as fuel costs continue to skyrocket? How much more pain must American consumers feel before the Democratic Majority finally brings to the House floor meaningful legislation to bring down the price at the pump?

I'm tired of the gov. trying to "solve" all the problems. I think they are the problem!! If they would get out of the way and allow the oil companies to drill responsibly we would not be paying $4.25 a gallon. I am also tired of big bad congress trying to "scare" everyone by their POWER!! Um, last I checked power belongs to the people. It is time for the American people to take back America. Take it back from the powers that be that are wreaking havoc on our social, economic and family structures. OH My!!! What will they try to do next!

Come on people!
Oil companies have a right to free market trade just like pet stores or beauty salons.
How about park your giant gas guzzling SUVs and walk, bicycle or ride the bus. We'd all pay less and breath easier too.
More government is not the solution to gas woes. Was the lesson from the gas embargo back in the 70's lost on everyone?
Stop demanding it and the price goes back down.
Take some PERSONAL responsibility for your role in high gas prices. One person can make a difference.

My honest belief is that Maxine Waters was obviously speaking out of the same frustration most Americans feel from gouged from the record breaking profits of Big Oil companies and from having to pay outrageous prices. At the same time as these record profits are being made, BOTH DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICRATS IN CONGRESS VOTED DOWN ENDING TAXPAYER SUBSIDIES THAT GO TO OIL COMPANIES. PLEASE TELL ME HOW THIS WELFARE/SOCIALISM FOR THE RICH GETTING RICHER IS CAPITALISM!! ARE WE STUPID?!! Each of the 3 presidential candidates (McCain slightly ahead of Hillary, with Obama running a close third) receive several hundreds of thousands of dollars from oil lobbyists, and you know they own congress! Sorry, but we don't have capitalism here when you have to pay twice for gasoline - once at the pump and then your tax dollars directly into the coffers of Big Oil, unless you consider buying congress a part of the "free market" economy. There is an outrage, but Maxine Water's comment is merely a diversion from the real problem - time to wake up to the truth!!

Solar cars and other alternates or great however even if they was starting to mass produce these cars today the poor will still be driving Gasoline cars until these new cars hit the used car lots, all this would take at lest 25yrs to switch most everyone over so in the short term we need to drill now and liquefy our coal.
Everyone saying these high prices are here to stay better pray their wrong. My business is fueled by the upper middle class to the wealthy and its starting to hurt so this just lets me know before long you will be to. -

This is what I've done to save gas. I got a tune up, plugs and wires, I got my oil changed, and filters changed and made sure my tires were inflated to the proper amount. I also started driving 55 mph everywhere. I went from 22 mpg to 28 mpg. Not too bad. I think we all need to slow down and if we'd do these simple things to our vehicles, the demand for gas wuld go down.

The American people need to be educated about wolves that are in sheep's clothing like the Honorable Ms. Waters. She has a right to her beliefs but she must be seen for who she truly is. She is a 60's Marxist as proven by her slip. The media keeps her identity and others like her hidden from public view. If the American People truly saw these people for who they are, they would be soundly trounced. However, the Marxist infiltration of this country has heavily influenced our media and entertainment industries therefore our people have become the preverbial frogs in the warm water. Will we be slowly cooked?
Change starts at grass roots level. We have to educate our neighbors and friends. We have to take the legislative arm of government back.

Hi Alan4Huck,
I have been impressed with the gains solar has been making and believe this is going to be the future.
Still, I don't know exactly when the transformation to a solar based economy will fully take hold. One year or eight years or fifteen years?
Yet, isn't there a problems with our environmentalist approach? I do see a flaw with our approach to not drilling for oil in areas that we consider environmentally sensitive. The problem with not drilling in Alaska - is that we instead will let others drill in other parts of the world - areas which may hurt the environment more than having a US corporation drill in Alaska.
If the US does not drill in Alaska but instead chooses to buy our oil from Canada where they extract oil from sand in their northern regions - is that more economically responsible? If instead of the US drilling in Alaska we have to buy our oil from Venezuela are we contributing less to harming the environment?
This is just my thought. I don't know if investing in more oil production can be justified - but to think that just because we won't drill in Alaska - the environment is being saved - is logically flawed. Drilling has just been shifted elsewhere and we haven't considered the overall health of the environment. Even the staunchest environmentalist should wonder if it is preferable to maybe cut down trees in places like Venezuela for oil well use when drilling could take place in Alaska instead.
I am not pushing for one over the other - I just think that many have not thought through that drilling in Alaska may be better for the environment - and result in less CO2 absorbing trees being cut down than drilling in other areas of the world. I guess that lots of vermin and critters get displaced in Venezuela (and are the Chinese helping them drill more wells there?) and maybe a species of bug will become extinct from drilling that gets shifted to elsewhere in the world.
So, not drilling in Alaska isn't necessarily saving the earth if economics forces people to drill elsewhere in more ecologically vibrant areas of the world.
However, our first energy priority should be to see how fast solar is coming on - and then be shifting our vehicle purchases to electric vehicles or electric/gas hybrids. Many electric cars are now getting ready for production - and some of them can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles an hour in three seconds. (Electric motors generally have faster acceleration than normal engines which have lots of parts and require more gear shifting.)

I sent the e-mail text prepared by AFA, and added, "Incidentally, I'm a retired public school teacher, and I believe parents who choose to educate their children at home are producing the best-educated people in America. They should be honored, not excluded."
One tiny skirmish in the culture war--and the enemy is not the Subway organization, but the failure to recognize we are REAL.

Something just dawned on me.
When The terrorist hit us they fly a plane into the pentagon (represents our military) was going to fly one into the Capitol ( our Governerment)
and hit the trade centers ( represents our economy) this was cleverly planed out to hit our strengths.
Now when they hit the trade centers I was watching on TV, I would have never guised them building was going to fall, and believe no one did because the firemen and medics was going in, however I do believe the terrorist knew they would fall, plans with full loads of fuel and doing it on 911 knowing rescue would be going in.
Now if this is true this puts there way of thinking way above mine.
Next, hurricane Katrina hit and showed the whole world our weak spot, showed how to put our economy in a downward fall.
So now they know how to hurt us, What is to keep them or another country that hates us from investing in oil on our stock market for more then its worth and thus driving the cost up, You know it only took one man to make it go over $100 a barrel, seen it on the news, so if one man can drive up the cost just think what a group of people can do. By internet we or anyone else can invest in anything, anywhere in the world.
They think cleverly to do us harm, with them anything is possible.
Someone needs to trace the money and make sure this is not what's happening,
MAY SOUND CRAZY BUT THEN AGAIN THEY ARE CRAZY!!!! -

Is it not better for our Gov. to regulate our oil then the other countries and opec that already do, we are at their mercy.
If we do start drilling more fields and using our coal for fuel then we would have to make sure anyone outside of the USA does not get their hand in it, manipulate it in there favor otherwise it does us no good ( USA Born fuel - owned & run by our people ONLY)At the same time I say the current high prices are from greed . There is no shortage at the moment, have you heard of anyone going to fill up and there was no gas, even OPEC says there is plenty. just think schools are letting out for the summer, no busses on the roads and no parents going back and forth to school, = more fuel on the market.
Seems like I can remember a few years back, out west the power companies said there was a shortage and even went as far as to started timed black outs, turned out it was just greed ( please forgive me if I'm wrong about this, seems like I heard it somewhere)
I truly believe this is the same as we have going on right now with our oil
How many farmers charge more for there produce just because there MIGHT be a drought or storm in the future? they don't until after the fact.
as a mater of fact I know of no other industry that does except insurance companies. now if we're paying extra for insurance because there may be a shortage then what's the benefit for us none, it all stays with the oil company's, if there comes a shortage they can not guarantee us fuel.
