Another "Big One"

Earlier this week I told you about the really outrageous column by Bob Novak and his “anonymous” source. Now another “big one” hits the world of really off base and fabricated farce. If you’ve seen a blog post and subsequent news stories alleging that our campaign chair Ed Rollins “admitted” that our Christmas ad aired in Iowa that got so much attention because I actually said “birth of Jesus” was a contrived scheme and that the infamous “floating cross” was in fact intentional, then let’s set the record straight.

Ed simply didn’t say that. Watch the interview he did with City Talk and see for yourself. It’s about 28 minutes long and it’s wonderful. Too bad the people spreading yet more fabrications have time to make up stories, but don’t have time to actually watch the interview for themselves. It’s of course easier to repeat something that sounds “juicy” than to actually go to the source and see if it’s true. Not only did Ed not say that, but the spot was filmed in late November and Ed didn’t join our team until December. The whole “floating cross” conspiracy has been especially amusing to the production crew at Dempsey Films in Little Rock (who are not political and who set up the shot) and equally as perplexing to the kind Little Rock family who allowed us to use their home that day for filming and who never realized that their family’s Christmas decorations in their den and the bookshelf that has been in their house for years was really a subliminal religious “Bat-signal” to the insiders (like the one used to summon Batman).

I hope you’ll take the time to actually watch Ed’s interview. What a wonderful affirmation of what the campaign was really about as well as great insights from Ed Rollins, who I came to truly love and adore both professionally and personally and count as a trusted and dear friend.

In the meantime, last night was a reminder of what a tough year this will be for Republicans. The loss of the Congressional seat in Mississippi was tough. We had a great candidate, but the Democrat very effectively ran as a pro life, pro 2nd amendment conservative. I’m convinced that for the GOP to have wins this year we have to focus on specific issues and not party building (for us) or party bashing (against them).

I really do love hearing from you guys and hope that we can use the forum here to create some ongoing “community forums,” a kind of electronic town hall in which we’ll raise a topic and ask you to opine and hopefully to make a case for your point of view. I think it will be insightful and fun.

Keep the Faith!

    Attention Huckabee Supporters:
There is a new VP poll on AOL where Huckabee needs out help. The article is about the McCain party this weekend and doesn't mention Huckabee in the article at all. According to one news report; Huckabee was invited but had a previous engagement [anniversary cruise] with his wife. Mike is trailing Romney 43% - 22%. Mike needs our help!

Please vote for Huckabee near the middle of this article

Many of us bloggers refer to Robert Novak as Robert NoFact, and I tend to not believe his columns, they sort of remind me of Floyd of Floyd's barber shop in Mayberry--a bunch of half-truths and gossip.

Mike, rather than defend yourself from Floyd, do what Andy did and just be the only sane, logical person of the group.

The only hope we have for this country YOU.

I find it disturbing that so many people allow themselves to be so easily mislead. Perhaps they have such little knowledge on current events that background scenery is worthy of conversation. I am so disappointed that Huckabee will not be the next president. I believe that he is the only worthy candidate at this time. I fully support Huckabee and will be ready to vote for him again in four years.

    Mike,
I have such respect for you and the way you handle situations like this. I know that it angers me that people say these things but God says that everyone will "reap what they sow" and I know that He will take care of all the attacks against you. You have carried yourself with great integrity and not only do I respect you, my children do as well. Keep up the good work!

Great idea about starting community forums on your website, Governor H.! Discussion of the important issues is extremely important, and the only way to start building consensus again in the Republican Party.

The conservative base is united on the life issues, but I'm afraid we are greatly divided on other vital issues like free trade, energy independence and, the most important of them all, in my opinion, the formation of a prudent and just foreign policy.

I really look forward to discussing matters like these with the Huckabee supporters.
They are unfailingly polite, and are especially thoughtful and prayerful.

With God's grace, I'm convinced that together we can start hammering out some solutions to the grave and complex problems facing our nation.

I appreciate Mike's statement as I could not believe that this was something that he could have planned or at least admitting to it if it was. He has always shown to be above all the political games and this just confirms it for me. I guess I was just frustrated that something like this could be true especially from a man that I respected in politics. So many people in this country can not handle an honest, religious and rightous man or woman without trying to tear them down (especially from the press). However, if it is someone with a dirty or slimy past, then so be it, as that is what the press would like to think the majority of Amercians expect in the ring of Politics. Good luck to everyone keeping the hope alive for Mike as the VP candidate. I look forward for casting my vote in KY's primary coming up soon. I can now experience what it is like voting the man that has the same values that I do as a person of this great country.

Governor Huckabee, Congratulations on making it to the top of McCain's short list (in my opinion, it should be a short list of one, Mike Huckabee). My political "wish list" includes a debate between you and Barack Obama, but I will certainly settle for one between you and Hillary! You will tear them up and it is so obvious that you can beat Obama any day when it comes to delivering a speech, but more importantly, you speak from the heart and from strong convictions so when you are asked a question, you do not have to flounder around trying to come up with an answer. You are the authentic, real deal and we are so proud to have you in the Republican Party.

Thanks for clearing that up so quickly Governor. It is awful journalism by the Arkansas News Bureau to print what they claimed Ed Rollins said. I would love to hear the interview. I Googled City Talk but didn't get anything that looked like it would have an Ed Rollins interview.

I hope you are the V.P. Governor. It may be the only thing that will get me "excited" and campaigning for John McCain, especially after his global warming speech. I will vote for him regardless, but excited and campaigning are different issues.

Here is an excerpt from today's FRC (Family Research Council - frcaction.org) Action Update email (great newsletter, BTW) about the Mississippi election. It's interesting.

Do any of you remember that after the 2004 election the Democrats hired "faith consultants" or something to help them craft religious messages? Seems like it's paying them some dividends...:

    Pro-Life, Pro-Gun, and Pro-Pelosi

The pundits are painting the latest special election in Mississippi as the harbinger of doom for the Republican Party in the fall. A closer look at yesterday's runoff election for Mississippi's 1st Congressional District shows that the Democrats' strategy is starting to pay dividends in red states. To help unseat Republicans, Democrats are infusing more Dixiecrats--candidates that are essentially Republican on the core social issues but Democratic in party affiliation--into local races across the country. In this instance, Mississippi's two candidates, Travis Childers (D) and Greg Davis (R), were nearly identical on key social issues like abortion, marriage, and gun rights. In the end, Davis's inability to distinguish himself ideologically resulted in a victory for Childers, turning over a longtime GOP seat to Democrats. Although this election will only determine who represents the district until November, it continues to garner national attention because it's emblematic of a broader political trend. The Democrats have used this same tactic to their advantage in Louisiana and Illinois, where traditional Republicans lost by narrow margins to blue "conservatives" in districts that have historically belonged to the GOP. The unfortunate reality is that once these Democrats reach Congress, they cast votes for liberal leaders like Nancy Pelosi. In Kentucky, Sen. Barack Obama (D) is capitalizing on the traditional strength of the Republican party by running faith-based ads across the state. Photos of Obama in the pulpit with crosses looming in the background are appearing everywhere--as are overt references to God and banners labeling Obama as a "committed Christian." Sadly, liberals are seizing on an opportunity that Republican candidates have not, which is talking openly about religion's role in public life. Until the GOP regains its voice on the issues that matter most to social conservative voters, Democrats will continue to make the red areas blue.

    My U.S. News blog comment:

Mike Huckabee won the heartland swing states that will help McCain win in the fall. He is charismatic, funny, has a great band that we can jam with (Capitol Offense!), can speak without a teleprompter, likes the FairTax which could prevent an economic recession, and is a really nice, level-headed, personable guy.

Romney is too up tight from laying off all those employees after his Bain Capital bought and sold companies and pushed families out of their jobs. He'd be a great VP if you want to lose your job! Not!

I like Mike Huckabee's statement that we want someone in the White House who is more like the people you work with, rather than the boss that you work for. He also wants to put a "Going Out of Business Sign on the IRS." Never should have started that agency in 1913 anyway!

Why not just send the billions of dollars corporations spend paying tax accountants directly to Washington, D.C. and be done with it! No more saving shoe boxes full of receipts! Sounds simple to me!

    Go, Huckabee, Go!

I know this is going to upset many of the supply-siders and economic conservatives who read my blog, but the odds seem to be growing that Mike Huckabee will get the nod from John McCain to be his running mate. I wrote about such a possibility earlier this week, and now independent reporting here at U.S. News also confirms that a growing number of McCain advisers are pushing the Huck option. (Comments to that original post are running about 60 to 40 in favor of Huckabee, BTW.) Who do you think will be the GOP vice presidential nominee? Please vote below!

Has anyone seen Obama's flier to Kentuckyan's? "Faith, Hope, Change" Obama is standing in a pulpit, and the words are describing his conversion. I don't doubt anyone's conversion, so don't go slamming a man for saying he is a christian. What I do think is hysterical is there is nothing subliminal about Obama's Cross, and the point of his campaign flier. There is no noise in the media, however.

    Dear Gov. Huckabee,
I really appreciate hearing from you so frequently these days. It is just too bad that you have to constantly defend yourself against these false rumors. As you said during the primaries, "they do not shoot at a dead carcass," or "you must be over the target." Someone must be feeling threatened by the prospect of you being Vice President because they are once again trying to mislabel you.

I listened to the whole Ed Rollins interview. He had good things to say about you and respects you greatly. For those who have not, here are a few things Ed said: Described you as a compassionate conservative (even though Bush may have ruined this description) because as a Governor you were always trying to fix things: schools, roads, health care etc. You understood the working poor, you connected with the people because you care about the people. He sensed in you a real guy, that voters saw you as a really good guy. You are a great speaker, in the league of Ronald Regan, a younger Ronald Regan. How you needed no script-got up early, did research, and then gave great speeches. Said you would be great as VP because you are a communicator, asset, have an uplifting spirit. That your religion has been misinterpretted. That you fill in great gaps for McCain. And yes, that you were masterful at getting free media. That you created excitement in your media ads. etc...

I hope that the other rumors are true, that McCain will ask you to be his VP. Your vertical politics is just what this country needs.

    Governor Huckabee,
I agree that to have success in the upcoming elections, Republicans need to re-focus and get back to issue-oriented leadership. Perhaps you can help this come about by writing a new Contract with America......

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Contract with America was a document released by the United States Republican Party during the 1994 Congressional election campaign. Written by a team of representatives including Newt Gingrich, Robert Walker, Richard Armey, Bill Paxon, Tom DeLay, John Boehner and Jim Nussle, and in part using text from former President Ronald Reagan's 1985 State of the Union Address, and relying on polling from Frank Luntz, the Contract detailed the actions the Republicans promised to take if they became the majority party in the United States House of Representatives for the first time in 40 years. Many of the Contract's policy ideas originated at The Heritage Foundation, an influential conservative think tank.

The Contract with America was introduced six weeks before the 1994 Congressional election, the first mid-term election of President Bill Clinton's Administration, and was signed by all but two of the Republican members of the House and all of the Party's non-incumbent Republican Congressional candidates.

Proponents say the Contract was revolutionary in its commitment to offering specific legislation for a vote, describing in detail the precise plan of the Congressional Representatives, and marked the first time since 1918 that a Congressional election had been run broadly on a national level. Furthermore, its provisions represented the view of many conservative Republicans on the issues of shrinking the size of government, promoting lower taxes and greater entrepreneurial activity, and both tort reform and welfare reform.

When the Republicans gained a majority of seats in the 104th Congress, the Contract was seen as a triumph for Party leaders such as Minority Whip Newt Gingrich, Tom DeLay, and for the American conservative movement.

Thank you for putting the record straight on the Christmas Ad Gov. Huckabee.

The one thing that baffles me and grieves me, is that it became an issue at all. All the Candidates claimed to belong to Jesus, so everyone of them should have had a Christmas message with Jesus as the focus, with no apologies.

Whether you did or didn't isn't really the issue, but that people saying they are Christians, were so offended by the Cross at all, is.

    Specific Issue:

I think one specific issue would be for the Republican Party to pursue and to adopt is the FAIR TAX.

This one issue would bring more attention to the Republican Party and would create more discussion and energy that any other issue. Naturally the Democratic Party would have to oppose it.

People vote their “pocket books” in the final analysis.

If John McCain would name Mike Huckabee as his vice-president and that THEY will join together to put the IRS out of business, then the Republican Party may have a chance in November.

    Mike Huckabee, Vice President

Well before I make any comment on this blog, I would like to congratulate you Mike at making it to the top of the Veep list.

I think America would get a sense of who Mike is, just like it was when you won the Lt.Gov. job. America definitely needs some practical minded common sense in politics right now.

I agree, much of the beauracracy is protracted from what the nation is feeling and wants. The key word is change. But truely what is change.

Hillary and Obama do not have a clue. There sense of change is promising a pullout in Iraq making for a safe America, free to nearly free medical for all, at what price to all? In both their cases the opening up of liberalism to homosexuality, abortion rights, etc.

The real issues are economy, alien border invasion, a real fix to Iraq, and again the stability to the American dream like it was in the 50's and 60's, since people from this age category are a very large voting block.

It is apparent to me that we have shifted a lot of our traditional methods of job incoming to foreign countries making for more service type employment. People work at walmart, tire stores, law firms, medical facilities. I can see a predictable economic collapse because service is only provided when one has real income to pay for it. Why so much emphasis on auto, factory, home and commercial construction reports. Even banking services are suffering from the impact.

So in summary, 30 million aliens are here filling the lower service sector jobs, because they are easily trainable and with lower pay, however these jobs are also entry level for non college high school graduates or drop outs, and do have career positioning available. The real manufacturing jobs are going overseas. Services are being cut by the general population to save money to pay for fuel. In general the upwardly mobile trend is falling apart.

The fix. Americas self preservation with a certain autonomy, and outlook not unlike what it was during the depression with programs like the CCC, etc. and a slightly less hawkish profile with the GOP. But to offer up some real change ideas. Not now, but later when the timing is right, when the election is one on one. Too much thievery going on right now with good ideas. Mike you are with out a doubt and idea man and the nation needs you, even as a Veep.

In regards to the loss in Mississippi, the south is full of Yellow dog Democrats, that are basically conservative leaning. There was time that the Democratic party was a conservative party that was deeply rooted in the south. I agree, the GOP does have to put on a new face.

You know I spoke out harshly against Mac when you were running. Well I do like the position he's taken in the last few days, that he has a different view on political positioning than what Pres. Bush has. So this just iterates the new face positioning.

Well there it is and again congrats on the possible Veep job and the consolidating of the Christian coalition behind John McCain for president.

All for Christianity! I think we should give our gifts to Christians instead of to Muslims of the flood in Burma or Mynamar, especially during this recession.
One good reason is that Muhammad who is a one-man self-declared leader of Islam taught hate and murdered himself to spread Islam. I suggest reading Religion of Peace: Why Christianity is and Islam isn't by Robert Spencer and When Europe Slept by Bruce Bawer. Another must-read book is America Alone by Mark Steyn.
Spencer had 11 Muslim schoiars read the original Qu'ron in Arabic and quoted it throughout his book. Muhammad actually said "Kill all the Jews and Christians and everyone else who does not accept him as the prophet. Don't believe the spin that Muslims aren't like that. Some integrated Muslims don't follow jihad but they will be forced to do so if the jihad gets the upper hand. It is written in the Qu'ron.
We have freedom of religion in the USA, but we need an amendment to the constitution regarding religion, something on the order that if any religion seeks to destroy any other religion, then it is forbidden. Christ taught love; Muhammad taught hate and destruction fo every other religion. It is not a religion that seeks to better mankind.
Spencer's book is an eye-opener. We must prevent Islam from taking over the world; that is the goal of Islam. It is the goal of the Chang dynasty in China as well.
Obama admires his Muslim father. He has Muslim sympathies. We don't need that. He is too inexperienced to be president.
I predict that McCain will win if he chooses Huckabee as his vice-president.
Please, please report to Huckabee. Only he can save us by becoming the vice-presidentai candidate and working for true freedom of religion.

Thanks for responding to this ridiculous accusation Gov. Huckabee. We've known your original response was true from the get go because we trust your honesty and integrity, but obviously other people needed to hear the issue addressed once more. As always, you have handled it in a tactful and straighforward manner.

Please know that our family prays for you everyday. You and Janet are awesome people and it has been a tremendous blessing to be part of your campaign. God bless you.

    Governor Huckabee,

Keep up the good work and please don't ever grow weary in what you are doing - you have a Covenant relationship with the Father and His energy is limitless and He's connected to you.

I know you probably know all about the Abraham Covenant which believers in Jesus benefit from but recently I heard a radio sermon that was educational about the ancient covenant/contracts and how God used each one to define our relationship with Him - It changed my entire thinking personally and within relationships. Stephen Covey's 7 Habits Seminar is wonderful but this is much better and is a panacea.

Oh NOOOO now I'm envisioning Mike Huckabee in tights! I'm not sure that's better than the mental image of him with green hair and tattoos.

    " What ARE You!?!?"

*pulls Democrat operative in till they are nose to nose*

    " I'm Huckman"

Good to see you getting the word out, Governor Huckabee! That was one gripe I had often during the campaign that there always seemed to me to be a slow response from your camp when manufactured issues would arise, because bovine fertilizer or no, those things take on a life of thier own.

We saw that with your comment about Mormon beliefs...and the claims about you being anti-Catholic.

A vigorous defense is the best weapon we have, which means getting the truth out there by whatever means possible.

No body on this site will believe any of the garbage that is printed by those with an agenda that does not include Mike Huckabee as McCain's vp. It looks very much like that's the way things are headed and, when you're on top, the attacks begin. We can take the attacks if it means a McCain/Huckabee ticket!

On another note, when I try to get on hucksarmy it says forbidden and something about Ron_Paul php came up??? When I kept trying over and over the Ron Paul thing didn't come up again but it said Apache/2.0.54 server at hucksarmy.com 403 frobidden error??? Does anyone know how I can get this fixed and get back my access to hucksarmy??? Quick, I'm having withdrawal symptoms. Just wondering if I made Ron Paul supporters mad. I did make a request for Ron Paul to get behind McCain and encourage his supporters to do the same and I mistankely called Ron Paul Senator instead of congressman. This oversight seemed to make some mad and now I can't access hucksarmy with this Ron_Paul php thing. Makes me wonder????

I guess it's because the liberal media is scared to death of a McCain/Huckabee ticket. You would certainly be able to step in and take some of the Hillary vote.

    Thanks Mike,

Again for setting the record straight. I guess this is a season for forest fires. Got to be on guard and next to a water hose at all times. You must be on the right track here and getting close to a breakthrough as that is when the enemy, very apparently is so transparent in his deceptive ways.

    Psalms 27: 1-4

The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.

Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.

One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple.

    God Bless You!

If only people could all of their free time to better uses than making up things.... Last night's loss in MS was a rough one, the only saving grace is that Travis Childrers will already have to start working on his re-election campaign as the term expires in November. Hopefully we can mobilize and get that district back on track by then.
