The death of Jesse Helms marks the end of a life marked by pure principle. Senator Helms was a man who didn’t try to be popular or appreciated by the politically correct crowd. He firmly believed in fighting the tyranny of communism and socialism, believed that taxes should be low and moral character should be high, and spoke from his heart and not from cards prepared by a roomful of consultants. He was rare in the political world in that he knew what he believed and why he believed it and focused on keeping his course close to his compass rather than drifting with prevailing winds of thought.
Today, we join with Americans across the country who salute this dedicated Christian gentleman and conservative icon, Senator Jesse Helms.

Hello Gov, As a former staffer of the Senator and native of N.C. I was very moved by your words. I attended the service on Tue. I have a extra Bulletin that I would like to get to you just contact me. My first Job in Politics was with Senator Helms . I would go on to work his last campaign of 96, I am proud of Jesse Helms for never wavering. When I think back alot of you Gov, Huckabee reminded me of the Senator. About the "tangents".... If you've been on Mike's blogs for a long time, you'll know that there are always side issues raised, on pretty much every thread.
Ever since last fall, Mike or his team would post a thread... a few people would respond to it... and then we'd be off to the races! There have always been many different notices and messages left here: Mike's appearance schedule... links to exciting poll results... pleas for donations under various Ranger accounts... exciting or discouraging campaign news... prophetic words... and sometimes just plain greetings and warm fuzzies extended to one and all. It was not uncommon for a posted thread to have 300 or more comments under it within a few hours!
Not all the posts are everyone's cup of tea. But we are part of a special community with an important mission, and we need to show each other a lot of grace.
A blog is like a party, with people from the entire community all hanging out in one room, having various conversations. Not everyone stays on topic, but various conversations begin amongst what are (hopefully) like-minded people of good will.
And as we all know, in any community, there will be disagreements among the members. Let's all try to keep our fuses long... let's refrain from saying things in a snarky, condescending, or hot-tempered way... but if someone else does let slip the occasional ill-considered word, let's all try to be a bit thicker-skinned and not so quick to hit back, slap them down, or try to gain our vindication.
If you read a post that makes you mad, or that you think is just plain wrong -- try letting an hour go by before you respond, so you can cool down and regain perspective. Sometimes when I'm really riled up about something, I compose a message in Word, then save it for an hour or even a day. Then I can re-read it before sending, to make sure that what I say -- and the WAY I say it -- are kind and respectful. This is especially helpful if I'm tired, stressed out, hormonal, distracted, etc.
One reason I never go to John McCain's website is because the blogs there are characterized by constant bickering and put-downs. It's unpleasant and reflects poorly on McCain.
As Ronald Reagan liked to say: "Say what you mean... but don't say it mean."
Or as Augustine used to say: "Unity on the essentials... Liberty on the non-essentials... and Charity toward all."

Jesse Helms was a great man and great Senator who's like is sorely missed in politics today. He stood for what was right regardless if it was popular with the liberal media or even some in the GOP. He was one of my hero's and he'll be greatly missed, but I know he's now at rest with the Lord.

Braileanu, Farrah,
Thanks for your post about your Moslem friend who is conservative but would be voting for Obama. The reason many eventhough may not agree with Obama especially on his stand on abortion but would still be voting for him is because many can not stand the hypocrisy of the GOP. I am an evangelist and missionary (and will be going back to Africa in about four weeks) I can't stand the GOP their support for big business and manipulation of Christians. I was very excited about Huckabee because he is a Christian, wasn't part of the establishment and didn't come accross as a politician. He actually address some serious issues head on. Politicians try to use issues like abortion knowing that we grief bitterly seeing unborn babies being murdered to attract us. Our Christian leaders talk about abortion but support a war that is completely wrong, and in whcih politicians lied to the people. This war has cause so many deaths. Most people who are not Christians wonder why Christians care abort abortion and don't even care when thousands of innocent people die abroad, killed because of US interest. People ask themselves do American Christians think God cares only about American lives and not about others? Five top Christian leaders wrote and encourage Bush to wage this war. Today we know that they used lies to build public opinion for the war. Mccain has Charlie Black running his campaign a guy who worked for Jonas Savimbi. Savimbi planted lots of US made landmines that are still killing people today in Angola. Why Obama is attractive is because he comes accross thesame way Huck came accross. Many are hoping he may move the country from this disastrous foriegn policy that is anti Christianity and the disastrous economic policies of G. Bush. Infact think that Christians chould not be the base of a political party. We are betraying the cause! We need to be discreet about who we vote but be able to speak out to both parties about the social issues we care about.

The only thing worse than a senator for President is, well, another senator for President.
Here is the email I just sent to John McCain:
Senator McCain:
If Gov. Romney is chosen as Vice President under no circumstances will I vote Republican this year.
That would be such a crock. Your back room deal will not float.
Romney can buy out Clear Channel and buy Fox News and the media, but he cannot buy the American people.
All Romney's money was like humpty dumpty and he could not win the presidency.
Conservatives will see a Romney VP as a fake deal, and will not support McCain.
John McCain is too liberal. He might as well be running as a Democrat, as he is almost as liberal as Obama.
We don't buy McCain's flip-flops. We don't like is global warming policy that will create government bureaucracy and put half of America out of business.
We despise constant job training every 5 years.
We want Mike Huckabee and his FairTax, and if we don't get it, we will watch the GOP go down in flames and will excitedly save our pennies and wait for Huckabee’s chance to be President in 2012.
The ONLY way McCain has a chance in '08 is with Huckabee.
Romney is a pro-choicer and only changed 2 years ago because it looked like a good maneuver.
Romney has been pro-homosexual and gay rights until very recently.
People see right through all of this.
It's not that we don't think Romney has a nice family. They're very nice.
But Huckabee is the real deal. He is who he says he is and he has always been the same way. Mike Huckabee has always stood up 100% for conservative values.
If McCain is dumb enough to pick Romney for VP over Huckabee, it will be fun watching Obama kick the GOP around for 4 years.
By that time, Americans will be so sick of Congress and government control, they will vomit the senators out of their mouths and go for a Governor with executive experience again.
I cannot believe McCain is stupid enough to choose Romney. That would be the biggest flip flop of the century.
Even John Kerry, who said that John McCain almost left the Republican Party in 2004 to campaign with the Kerry team, will have a great public laugh out of that one and will get a lot of mileage out of such a ridiculous notion.
So the media thinks they can choose our president for us? Well, we’ll see about that!
If McCain is not careful, the American people who watch Lou Dobbs every night and see McCain shipping all our jobs overseas will rise up and demand a new Republican nominee!
Go conservative or lose!
We won't give up our conservative party platform!

To be honest, I enjoy the tangents. One word from someone in authority on this site, and I will avoid adding to them. I love everyone here. It’s important to avoid sarcasm and condescension when we disagree. This is advice to myself, too, as I have resorted to sarcasm many times to make my point (not here, bit elsewhere). Unfortunately, it is rarely well received by those it is directed at. Good intent and even good information can be lost by presentation. I am trying to learn to think when making a post: Is this helpful, important, or encouraging? Believe me, I know it’s hard sometimes.
Incidentally, a little healthy debate is good for a blog. It keeps people coming back. But mean-spirited is bad. It can turn people off. Just my two cents. I’m not directing this at anyone in particular.

I just saw the interview with Sean Hannity, Jesse Helms and his wife. I didn't know much about Helm's, but I wish I had, so that I could have thanked him. He said that America's biggest problem is principle. I'm certainly glad that he stood on principle. He said more Americans needed to do so. America has lost a great and much needed leader.

07/06/2008 12:30 PMTyger, you do not know me.
If you really felt the way you did when you wrote the first post yesterday then why continue on. Even though you say the last post to me would be your last; don’t you think it unfair to think that I would not respond to your post about me to someone else?
(YOU DON’T ACTUALLY HAVE TO ANSWER THAT)If you look at your first entry on this blog roll it is an obvious attack on everyone here that isn’t saying something about Jesse Helms. This is what started this dialog.
Do not put words in my mouth again. I might have to change my mind about calling the moderator if you twist my words to falsely accuse me again.
I believe as you say it is libelous.
You said, “I didn't know until the other day that she objected to the removal of Jake and Bill.”
When did I say this?
I didn’t, I said you were fueling the debate and were not totally innocent. The reason I responded to your earlier post as I have already stated that comments like, “What in the world is wrong with some of you?” run’s people off. They will quit posting. I hate to see people go and I wish you would have dropped the “gay” debate so that everyone could have moved on. Bill and Jake weren’t always so inflamed but you certainly weren’t going to leave that issue alone and as I saw it you were the main instigator. It’s unfortunate that they got banned, but DO NOT put words in my mouth.
On another note, yes we have been on the outs for awhile because I see how you can mix a little funny with a terrible insult and come off looking pretty good. Like this from an earlier post when you crushed a regular blogger for no reason other than well as you put it, “we are what we are.”
Tyger
06/22/2008 12:05 PM
Tyger to Jill Anderson who is no longer posting. You can find this at the bottom of the page under RSS in the Moderation Blog Roll.
“I know, as you told me earlier, that you were doing what you felt was right. but to me it looked after a while more like " Okay you people are too dumb to find this stuff even though I've posted it on every previous blog, and it's on Huck's Army, so here it is again."
There is a fine line between helping and acting like you're surrounded by morons in need of your assistance.”Jill was only posting the VP polls and trying to encourage the troops. She was on a mission and I for one appreciated it. There were some days when the rolls were moving very slowly so her postings would show up day after day. So what!? This is why I said, “Let the good people post wherever they are.”At least they are posting! I hate to see people leave this site. You crushed her! I didn’t always agree with Jill but that was just plain mean spirited.
There was another debate that we had awhile back, but I told you we would agree to disagree and I was done with it. I do not appreciate that you tried to paint a mental picture for others by false accusations. You accused me of “tying to stick a fork in you” it was absurd, I was having a disagreement with something you posted. Your antagonistic and clever way of trying to destroying people that don’t agree with made it sound like I was the attacker. People need to read the entire discussion if they want to know the truth.
Tyger, I heard someone post earlier that sunshine helps with depression. I’m sure it is true because I am as happy as a clam when I am in the great outdoors. Maybe if you got out more it would help and you wouldn’t have to rely on the meds so much. I remember you said that you were riding your bike to work, this should help too, and of course losing some weight is also going to be helpful. I sincerely hope you get the help you need to be a happier person. I'm sorry but, the depression is no excuse for being mean. It might explain it a little but it doesn't make it O.K.
I really would like to move on from this now and say I am glad to see so many posting today. It is always a great day when there are so many people checking in.

I think Mike Huckabee has summed up quite well in his short comments on the late Senator Jesse Helms both the character and political philosophy of Mr. Helms. He was for many years my favorite senator. While he was hated by many on the liberal/left and considered cantankerous even by some conservatives, his personal integrity and principled stands in the face of great opposition did not falter. Senator Helms was an unfailing voice and vote for the preborn
and for moral standards in general. He was tenacious in preventing the passage or easy passage of communistic and socialistic bills.
In his personal life he demonstrated a personal regard for persons in need.
If the information I read is correct he died on July 4 (Independence Day). It occurred to me that our second and third presidents,
John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, both died on July 4, 1826, which was the 50th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. In my opinion
Mr. Helms exemplified in his personal life and in his political labors a 20th century crusader for what was best in the American tradition. -

This comment has nothing to do with Jesse Helms but it is the latest entry and thus my only choice, I do not have my own blog.
"DON'T BE IMPATIENT. WAIT FOR THE LORD, AND HE WILL COME AND SAVE YOU1 BE BRAVE, STOUTHEARTED AND COURAGEOUS. YES, WAIT AND HE WILL HELP YOU. Psalms 27:14
Waiting is very difficult and McCain is not probably selecting a running mate after the Democrats choose, so it may be weeks. I will continue to pray for a miracle that Mike becomes the running mate with McCain. Without Mike on the ticket and given more respect in the GOP leadership, this party will die a long, slow death. It is really sad when fellow believers reject a man like Mike Huckabee to help lead our nation during these perilous times. I will work for local conservative candidates to win in November and take a break from national politics and this web site. I did mail my "buck for Huck" and have others I know to do likewise. It can't hurt and might help if enough people do it. Shalom to all who visit here.

Doctor David: These are the times I wish I had email addresses...We've been on the outs for a while...I didn't know until the other day that she objected to the removal of Jake and Bill, but there were other things before that.
People are what they are, and believe what they believe. Sunny and I have very different views, and near as I can tell, that is unlikely to change.
It would be a boring world if everyone always agreed though, so I'm cool with that.
As I said in my last response to her (and it will be my last response to her on this subject), my point stands...my tone, not so much.
Not excusing my initial post, but I will say that I will be a very happy cat when I can go back to a regular dose of my antidepressants...I'd dropped back to a half dose because I had some financial snafus which kept me from having the money for even mostly insured medication. Nice fat paycheck on Friday though, so I am good to go at long last.

It has become all too easy to unfairly label another man 'racist' in contemporary society. Indeed the term is applied virtually everywhere these days, generally by blacks and other minorities, and virtually always within the context of reprimanding whites and restricting their freedom of expression: Indeed should a high-profile, white radio talk-show host highlight the lengthening criminal record of a given black athlete, and subsequently imply that black athletes are prone to commiting a higher number of societal crimes or transgressions than other athletes, he's immediately labeled racist and the veracity of his argument tidily forgotten, quickly swept under the rug by those who'll brook no rebuttal in that certain elemental human truths might emerge, truths that might ultimately empower the argument of those attempting to address the subject of black crime.
Instead of continually belaboring Helms's obvious racism, and thereby redundantly repeating tired sloganeering that perpetually takes us nowhere, our society might ultimately find a more edifying answer to the problem of racism if we were simply to ask precisely why Helms felt so strongly in favor of segregation.
Genuine racial dialogue will ensue in our country only when whites (and indeed men of all races) feel free to speak their minds without fear of physical retaliation or potential litigation and political intimidation. Helms himself freely practiced this form of open discourse, and has paid very dearly for his candor, while black leaders themselves similarly indulge in it, and are frequently elevated to lofty roles in American history texts and nightly television newscasts.
Until there exists genuine parity in the argument on race, the principled majority within our troubled nation will continue to flee to their suburbs and perhaps rightly harbor fear that their racial opponents are indeed less in favor of peace and equity than intimidation and rancor and eternal tribunal. In time, those fears--whether they be real or imagined--might well translate into armed opposition or insurrection, leaving our nation embroiled yet again in civil war and bloody anarchy--particularly if that majority believes the race argument unilateral and endorsed by a government bearing an agenda disguised to promote racial equity.
If indeed nothing else, Jesse Helms was brutally honest or forthright in his opinions, and that's a rare commodity found in few contemporary American politicians and statesmen.

SharonNC, that's such a wonderful story you shared about Senator Jesse Helms. It's that personal side in politics that creates an undying loyalty from supporters.
Gov. Huckabee certainly knows about that - we are such loyal supporters of his.
Has anyone seen that video he made for Georgia? It's here:
http://www.webcastingtechnologies.com/Mike_Huckabee/Huckabee_300.wvxIn it, Mike thanks the people of Georgia for their support for him -and tells them that Sen. McCain was his 'second choice' (a more 'vertical' way of how I say 'he wasn't my first choice' :-)
Then he gives his reasons for supporting McCain and why others should, too:
a) the recent narrow Supreme Court decision in favor of the second amendment - and how it illustrates that we don't need a president who will appoint justices to the left of center (McCain will not do that),
b) that Obama thinks our taxes aren't high enough - and will raise them, but McCain won't,
and c) McCain has respect for the principles of life, which are so important to us.
And finally, Gov. Huckabee says this is an election we can't afford to 'sit out.'
It's a good video clip. It isn't 'professionally done' - (I mean, it's MIke in front of an American flag, just talking - the audio is a little 'echo-y') - but it's the kind of message John McCain can use and that should be widely disseminated.
'Second choice.' Second choice is far better than 'last choice'! :-)

These are dark times for America.
The way I see it we have been betrayed by the GOP.
I know a lot of you guys have seen that I am critical of John McCain.
But would Guiliani, Romney or Thompson have been any better? NO. John McCain was actually the better of those four.
However having said that, I don't see a way to support or vote for McCain.
What I am getting at is that the GOP betrayed us by going to the left on our issues.
As Huckabee supporters you know how they told us that we could never win, and that if we did somehow win, by some miracle, they would run Mike Bloomberg for president.
The point is that the choices that they gave us, was the four candidates I mentioned who are all liberals.
They all say that a right to life amendment or a marriage amendment is too much to ask for.
So you see, we have been pushed to the back of the bus, if not off of it completely, yet they still demand our vote.
When "gay marriage" is nationally accepted in this nation, and rest assured it is coming, especially if we support politicans like McCain and Thompson, then everyone will understand. Ofcourse then it will be too late.
And don't go thinking that McCain will appoint conservative judges. I've heard so many people saying this, and it is nothing more than a guess stated as though it is a fact. The facts are that McCain does not stand out as a conservative, and even if he somehow did, if you let congress go to liberals they would stop him. Then you can listen to McCain explain to you why he must nominate a liberal.
Yet all the supposed conservatives are worried about is what Obama will do to their money and rising taxes.
As I have said before and will continue to say, we need to start focusing on congress and getting some good candidates that we can count on, who will not betray us and who will fight hard for us. These are the people who should get our support, not candidates who betray us.

John Martin,
I can't comment on those quotes, because I haven't read the books either and don't know the context.
However!!!
I would like to say this: I came to be on friendly terms with a Muslim guy while in college. In fact, his father taught classes there. The entire family was very nice. He never attempted to win me over and struck me as being fairly Americanized, although still strict about following their religion, i.e. no drinking, fasting at times, etc.
After college, he eventually moved to California in or near an area with a strong Muslim community, something he didn't have where he grew up. We (me and others who knew him from college days) noticed a change in his behavior. He seemed to distance himself from us.
When I sent him an e-mail endorsing Huckabee, he made it clear that he would be voting for Obama. I would assume this is typical of many Muslims in this country. It surprised me, because I thought Muslims were fairly conservative. Why would he vote democrat?
This was my reply: "What are the main issues you are basing your vote on? Also, are most Muslims you know voting Obama? Just curious."
Here was his answer: "The most important issues to me are: world peace (anti-war), alleviating world poverty/disease/hunger, human rights and the environment."
He didn't address the other part of my question.

A BUCK FOR HUCK?
I think your idea is well meaning, but I wonder if McCain will appreciate it or even care that much???? I certainly do not feel motivated to send a buck to him for Mike. It's not the money that's the issue, it's marriage, life, etc. I doubt John is a man for gimmicks to get him to pick anything. Isn't he a man more for compromise for a solution? Why not tell him how many more votes he'd get if he would pick Mike or a guy just like him on who clearly can stand up on a monents notice for morality and the life of the unborn?
Really, I think Janet F. is attacking this from the wrong standpoint. I think you are wasting your dollar.

07/06/2008 08:39 PMI recently rceived the same e-mail, and I would not pay 50 cents for the book, so I don't know if it is true, or not...
But, you would think his loyal followers have read his book... And, I can not understand why they are crazy enough to follow him, if he did say such things.
But, they seem to be deaf, blind & dumb.. Or maybe they have been brain washed... Because he has said enough that should have turned them away, already ..
This is has been the most crazy election , I have ever seen. And, I am a Great Grandmother...
And, the Republicans have been brain washed, too... The leaders seemed to think that a man that stood up as a christian...
That never wavered from his beliefs, the Right To Life, and actually was ready to reverse Roe vs Wade, and stop the murders of all the innocent babies... was not electable. He never wavered from his belief that a marraige should be as God intended , between a man & a woman... But, that would be offensive to the small minority of Gays & Lesbians... So, he could not be elected...
A man that wanted a Fair Tax for the burdened tax payers , and was ready to abolish the IRS..... There was very few, that this might actually hurt, billions it would help, was Mike Hukabee was not ,electable..
So, they pushed upon us a man that was always known to work with the liberals....The man that seemed to not even like the christians......
Wonder, why, oh why, can I not get excited about this election ?
Sorry, I got off the subject... My heart does go out to the Helms family... May God give them a peace that passes all understanding..And, may God intervene in this election, and give us the man that he would have us to have...not the one that we deserve...

To Sunny and Tyger: I have been here less frequently the last few weeks due to vacation and July 4 weekend. I was surprised to see the two of you on each other's nerves, as I know that Sunny is one of our wiser heads, and Tyger is one of our most spirited members. Part of the stress may be the uncertainty with which we are trying to cope, while we wait to find out whether Mike Huckabee will be the VP choice. If he is, I imagine there will be a resurgence of interest in this website. If he is not, we will need to decide what the long-term goal of this PAC is. We have the potential to have a huge impact on the present election, so I would counsel patience and calmness in keeping on keeping on. I am always interested to see what you two (and many others) have to say, so let's keep it upbeat, OK? Thanks.

Mike Huckabee would make a great Vice President for John McCain because of his awesome communication skills; his FairTax idea would bring thousands of lost American jobs back to Ohio.

McCain Getting Desperate

I believe the DNC law suit had to do with McCain needing to stick with public financing since he took out a loan during the primaries (when his fund raising was on fumes) that was tied to public financing. As long as he stays on public financing, he may be OK, but he'll need a lot of grassroots support from conservatives who would put McCain over the top with a McCain/Huckabee ticket (like we nearly did for Huckabee)!
If McCain chooses anyone else for V.P., and keeps talking the pathetic NAFTA "all manufacturing jobs are gone forever and we may lose thousands more" garbage, it's all over for the elephants, because 1,000 pilots and 6,000 workers at ABX (Airborne Express) will lose their jobs in Wilmington, KY near Dayton, OH when DHL merges with UPS to ship international packages soon.
Without the FairTax (even though some tax attorneys won't like it), our economy will continue to lose jobs like a sieve.
We've got too many problems with lead paint in toys and tainted pharmaceutical drugs from China and American flags made overseas.
The latest fiasco was the Air Force having to reconsider the Northrop Grumman deal with European Airbus because they unfairly pushed American run Boeing out of the way and now they have been forced to allow Boeing back into the bidding process after Lou Dobbs kept hammering away at this problem on CNN.
I am praying that Boeing gets these jobs back in America for national security and job reasons.

There has been some conflicting ideas aired over the past weeks on the direction that blog comments should take. A few people see the blogs as a professional type tool for building HuckPac and discussing HucKPac candidates.
They seem almost outraged at all the off-topic discussions and many of them blame these discussions as the reason why many old-timers have left the site. I don't know the reason - but I know some people expressed their view that while they could support Mike for President they didn't want to just support Republicans - and others may have only wanted to support Mike for President, but not support the work of supporting and electing people for Congress. Some like Deborah are first class cheerleaders and contribute a lot of energy - or that is the impression I get as an outsider. I don't know who is important within HuckPac and who is most valuable - I just read these blogs.
Some people espouse their religious views and there is a tendency for some to want to share, contrast and critique Biblical views or religious theories. Because I want God to be glorified, even more than I want Mike Huckabee to be a political force, I sometimes venture in to defend God - as I think necessary.
My desire to glorify God has prompted me to come alongside Mike Huckabee - because I think Mike portrays God very well and may yet be used to glorify God more. Mike portrays God better than he portrays himself - in my opinion. For this reason I respect Mike. Also, Mike has supported taking a pro-active stance on health issues which I believe is important.
However, in deference to the purpose of this blog as a political forum - I got access to another forum to discuss religious views - especially because I can dive deeply into these discussions, making a series of arguments and posting a lot of scriptures in the process.
Right now it is just three people from the HuckPac site posting there - with the website owner gently and maturely sharing his views too a few times.
Feel free to drop in if you want some discussion. And strangely enough Jake Long is one of those posting - but in a largely respectful manner.
So although I may not know everyone's motives or heart - I am trying to pursue peace as much as possible.
Romans 12:17-18 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

I recently received an email that has some quotes from Barack Obama’s two books, “Dreams from My Father” and “The Audacity of Hope”.
I have not read these books and I don’t care to read them, so therefore I cannot verify the following quotes:
From: Dreams from My Father,
“I ceased to advertise my mother’s race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites.”
“I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother’s race.”
“There was something about him that made me wary, a little too sure of himself, maybe. And white.”
“It remained necessary to prove which side you were on, to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strike out and name names.”
“I never emulate white men and brown men whose fates didn’t speak to my own. It was into my father’s image, the black man, son of Africa, that I’d packed all of the attributes I sought in myself, attributes of Martin and Malcolm, DuBois and Mandela.”
AND
From “The Audacity of Hope”
“I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.”

It sure is quiet here today!
I just emailed John LeBoutillier at NewsMax magazine online and asked him how we can get Mike Huckabee as the presidential nominee instead of John McCain at the GOP convention in September, as LeBoutillier does not think that McCain has this wrapped up at all.
http://www.newsmax.com/contact/editorial/
Mr. LeBoutillier: I am interested to know how we can have any other nominee other than John McCain at the September GOP convention. You have hinted that McCain is not our only choice, and that the people are less than enthused about him. Here in Ohio, Wilmington DHL is losing lots of jobs in a merger with UPS. We need Mike Huckabee's FairTax to bring jobs back form overseas. Is this a viable possibility? If so, can you please tell us how? Thanks so much!

Linda Rayborn and Janet Folger are right.
Every person visiting this website should immediately send a $1.00 check to:
Senator John McCain's campaign fund
PO Box 16118
Arlington, Va. 22215with a note enclosed that this is in support for a McCain/Huckabee ticket.
Tell Sen. McCain that we will donate more if Mike Huckabee is Vice President, and he will have our vote IF and only IF he chooses our favorite conservative.
If not, McCain should get ready for a landslide defeat in November and we'll pray that the GOP starts listening to their conservative base in 2012.
McCain is promising that the jobs are gone forever and promising job training to Ohio people who have been laid off 3 times, many of whom are not working now.
DHL in Wilmington is getting ready to lay of more as it merges with UPS.
We're tired of job re-training every 5 years!
We want the FairTax and thousands of jobs coming back to America!
Please donate $10 to HuckPAC to Mike and Janet Huckabee.
Please enter Donor Code R23732. We need to see Mike back on CNN and MSNBC!

i know this doesn't have anything to do with mike or jesse helms, but please everyone pray for our athletes staying safe at the olympics. it is very dangerous for these athletes to attend international events while we are at war. The enemy knows we are attending and given the right circumstances could inflict harm. i hate to even bring that up but it is a possibility and i hope to God nothing like that happens.

Like all of us, state Rep. Warren Chisum, R-Pampa, plays a variety of roles on life’s stage. He’s a fairly savvy politician - he has represented his district since 1989 - and a nice enough guy on a personal level. He is also a dedicated family man who wants to share that moral wealth whether the rest of us need or even want a share. But a conservative he’s not.
True conservatives want government out of people’s lives, and Chisum keeps advocating state intrusion on marriage. We don’t doubt his good intentions but disagree vigorously with his notion that people must wait two years before being granted a divorce in Texas.
It’s an idea that died a well-deserved death last session, but Chisum is going to try again to make this turkey fly. In his view, divorce is too easy to get in Texas, and he wants to make it harder, even if that means using government power to keep people in unhappy marriages for two years.
In Chisum’s world, people in troubled marriages would undergo counseling, patch up their differences and live happily ever after. The real world isn’t quite that tidy. The reasons couples split up are many and varied, and imposing a one-size solution is unnecessary and unwarranted government intrusion into private lives. This proposal will complicate people’s lives and fortunes. Assets to be divided can shrink or grow depending on one partner or another’s propensity for mischief or just plain circumstance. Buying and selling property in that long twilight zone of waiting also gets complicated.
What about people in abusive relationships? A partner in a physically abusive relationship would be able to get a divorce in 60 days, Chisum says. Fine, but that loophole invites false charges of abuse just to cut corners. As we said, it’s a messy world.
Trying to impose order on it with a well-intentioned but ill-advised piece of legislation that enforces unhappiness courts misery and mischief. State Rep. Jessica Farrar, D-Houston, a member of the committee that considered the divorce bill last year, summed it up aptly: “I don’t think it’s the government’s job to force people to stay unhappily married.”
Surely, the state has bigger priorities than handcuffing unhappy couples for two years. -

Happy Birthday President Bush !
We will miss him more than we yet realize.
He kept us safe at least and that is no small task. It will be like in Iran when the people overthrew The Shaw--They sure missed him later...Many times: You dont know what you got till it's gone".
I dont think Clinton was better.
More war related deaths statistically in his administration than Bush.
Put that in your Liberale Kool -aid and snort it , all you so-called-'anti-war' liberales !At least Bush served his country and didnt go awol and then get a special Jimmy Carter pardon. Geesh...Mean country o' dems-o-crats.
We dont want war either, here on the Republican side---that would be insanity--Only insane people "WANT WAR" !
--but if you cut our military off at the knees or in the case of this years Democratic Platform at the proverbial thighs...well then dont expect business as usual here in US of A ...and dont be surprised if "Alex' gets bombed in his little sandbox out in our "back yard".
Oh BTW,,, did anybody catch Barack_O's Big Poverty agenda-sending all our money overseas ? ? ?
His 123 days (approx) experience in the Senate is apparently "priceless".
Mr Huckabee was/is the only "Presidential Material" of the recent remaing foursome --
now we have the gruesome twosome--(boo hoo) slapping each others hands about "issues", like sissies. Gag me !
Take Heart though--- ! I solemnly believe we are 'still in it' - I claim it with you all in Jesus's name ...Afterall, things are not always as they seem...Just "Ask" Harry Truman.
In other words, if God ordains it--it will then come to pass. Keep praying for a miracle.
PRAY FOR PEACE_OR ELSE WE WONT GET IT !

You can dress me up but dont take me out (at least not in an election year like this one)...seriously--most people i meet are insto-friends but the bad apples detest me "insto-fiends" --a few lukewarms or so it seems---I am the too fragrant flower-Drives the hornets crazed-- but it charms the honey-bees (smiles)...Buzz..

Ann Dodds,
Thank you for your post regarding Dr. Charles Stanley's guest speaker this morning, Newt Gingrich. I watched Newt's message this morning and I agree that this is a must see for everyone. Well we lost Jesse Helms about the same time as we lost Ronald Reagan four years ago. Now, I can't say I knew much about Jesse Helms when he was alive, but from what I hear, he was a man of integrity. One thing is clear though, the old guard, great though it may be, is dying. We must step up and claim our position as their successors; we cannot live in the past, but we must take their example to heart and move forward with the new guard. Rest in peace, Jesse, and may the resurrection come soon.
That said, until Christ's return, this world is still subject to human government, whether those in charge be heroes or tyrants. If we project the attitude that we are about the past, our movement has no future. When the old guard dies off completely, who will remember the past? The best way to respect Reagan, Helms, and their comrades is to show we've learned from them, and to take up their mantle, not leave the mantle on a pedestal. Therefore, I move that there is to be no more talk among us about the Reagan coalition. We are the Huckabee coalition; we are the one's who will relieve the old guard, so that the old conservatives who are left can die with the peace that their dreams of honor, integrity and liberty in America will not die with them.

Today on Charles Stanley broadcast, "Intouch", he had a guest speaker, Newt Gingrich. This was a wonderful speech that defended our country in war for all those people who say, "God would not want us in war!". This is a must see speech. Please send this to all your friends - this will help us with the Democrats saying we must get out of Iraq. There are a lot of people, even Republicans, who think God doesn't want us in this war.

Hurrah! for John Martin, I could not have said it better myslf and agreed more with what you have just said.. The pump-jacks are pumping just as hard as they can in Tx. and I am sure Harry Reid John MCcain, Obama, or Nancy P. have not even been to your state John nor mine either to really see what is going.. I am always amazed at how they live on Wall Street and have no ideal what going on in the real world. Makes me ill when I hear the "know it alls" acting like they do and don't!!! They come to our state maybe< and stay in some fancy Motel or Hotel and then make their speaches of what we need to do!!
I just bet if you ask either one of them what "a gathering system is" they would know what it was!! Right!! Phew! My speach for the day..Janis/Brownwood, Tx.

"For Conservatives Who Want to WIN"
That slogan caught my eye last month as I strolled around the exhibit hall of a homeschool convention. The booth belonged to The Leadership Institute.
What especially caught my eye was a large brochure, titled "Read to Lead." Now all my life I've been a bookaholic (long before I became a Huckaholic!), and I love lists of books according to topics.
Morton Blackwell, the founder of the Leadership Institute, has created a list of the top 25 books that he recommends for anyone who wants to become fluent in conservative thought and history.
You can find the ANNOTATED list here:
http://www.leadershipinstitute.org/resources/?pageid=rtlbooks&i=27
It includes classic & inspiring books by William F. Buckley (a fascinating genius), Thomas Sowell, Edmond Burke, Milton Freidman, Ayn Rand, Barry Goldwater, F.A. Hayek, and an amazing espionage account called "Witness" written by Whittaker Chambers, about the Alger Hiss spy scandal. If you love to see liberals proven wrong, you'll love that one.
Note that the books are listed in alphabetical order according to author.
He also has a list of periodicals that are worth reading.
Many of us are hoping that Mike will be chosen for McCain's VP candidate. If he is, I'm sure the troops will spring into action, ready and eager to help fight the good fight this fall!
But even if he's not, we should all train and prepare like skilled soldiers. Let's read and learn all we can... let's become more tech-savvy and learn how to blog and post comments efficiently on the Internet, like the Ron Paul folks did so effectively... let's start a special savings account so that when Mike runs in the 2012 race, we'll all have lots of $$$ to donate in the early days... etc.
Abraham Lincoln said, "I will study and get ready... and then maybe, someday, the chance will come."

I also had much respect for Jesse Helms. He was a man of character and principle, something sorely lacking in most of our Congressmen and Senators. Take our current majority leader in the Senate who in my opinion is an absolute idiot. Harry Reed deplores OIL. Having such a fool as him leading our Senate and we wonder why the country is in the current state?
The only candidate in the presidential race that stated in the debates that the economy was the number one challenge was Mike Huckabee. Did John McCain listen? It does not appear that McCain has waked up and is now the standard bearer for the Republicans. He evidently thinks that since the primaries are over, he should go back to his usual “fact finding missions” in places like the Middle East and in Central America. Should someone wake him and tell him that he is running for President?
I live in what can be described as the “non-pristine” area of north Louisiana. Contrary to what people like Harry Reed, B. Obama, the talking heads on TV, and even John McCain say about it taking 10 years or longer to find enough oil within our own country in order to see a change in demand and in prices, I submit the following:
This week, the CEO of Chesapeake Energy, an Oklahoma based company, said that the Haynesville Shale is likely to become America’s largest natural gas field and perhaps the fourth largest in the world. (Location: North Louisiana & East Texas) The company has plans to have 12 rigs online by year’s end, 30 in 2009, and 60 in 2010. It anticipates drilling 600 wells over the next three years. Also, the company has 27 rigs on order and will contract with third parties to put together the additional equipment that is needed. Most likely, for the people who heat their homes in the eastern part of the country will be burning portions of the natural gas produced from the Haynesville Shale within a few months as the facilities are already in place to connect to bulk carriers of natural gas.
Also announced this week was a subdivision homeowners association in a small community in north Louisiana contracting with a subsidiary of Chesapeake Energy for the leasing of the mineral rights within the subdivision. The offer is reported to be $8,750 per acre with the property owners having a 25% royalty. It was also announced this week that a test well from the Haynesville Shale would produce about 6 million dollars ($6,000,000) per month. Also, the current plans for the development is for one-well spacing per 80 acres. So if the above subdivision owner has a one-acre lot and a well that is producing the above amount, then with a 25% royalty on one acre of the 80 acres, this property owner would receive about $18,750 per month. Did your stimulus check look that good to you?
No, the Harry Reeds, Obamas, or John McCains don’t have a clue as to what makes this nation run. They think that every voter lives on 5th Avenue in New York City and dreams to be in the frozen tundra of Alaska. They need to take a look in the “non-pristine” areas of our country where “the people” work and live.

There was a reason that NC sent Jesse to the Senate time after time. We had no doubt where Jesse stood and didn't worry about him backing down on any of his principles.
My mother worked at a small group home(5 people) One of the residents, Buddy, kept telling her that he was a homeless veteran until Jesse Helms stepped in to get him a place to live. Of course she was more than a little skeptical.
One day he finally convinced her to take him to the office Jesse had in Hickory. When they walked in the lady in the office said, "Hey Buddy, how are you? Jesse's not in today. He'll be sad he missed you." He was obviously well known there.
I'll bet there are a lot more Buddy's out there that no one will ever hear about.
While I didn't agree with all his views, he was good, decent human being.
